Chapter 910 Who Do You Love?
Waverly noticed that Bellamy had stopped asking questions. Subconsciously, she looked at the messages on the screen.
"Lenold's also doing a live broadcast now. He wants to confront you head-on. He said that the video was real and the people in the video are indeed both of you. The person involved has already confessed and yet you're still denying it!"
Waverly felt tense. "Let him. I had dated Lenold once, but that was before I married Bellamy. I've never slept with him."
"Who can prove that? Both of you are saying different things," a message read.
"I... " Waverly began.
"Waverly," Bellamy interrupted Waverly. "Don't be rash."
Another message appeared. "What were you trying to say?"
Bellamy had also expected that Lenold might speak out. "Just allow him to join the live broadcast, but you must remain calm and think before you act. They're probably setting up a trap for you. Before you answer, you should wait two seconds for me."
"I can do that. I just have to connect to him and he'll appear in here right away," Waverly said confidently. She had never slept with Lenold, so there was no need to be afraid.
She would like to see how Lenold would mortify himself.
After a while, Lenold joined her on the live broadcast. Everyone could hear their conversation.
"Finally, you're willing to listen to me. We were still fine over the phone when I called you last time. Why are you doing this to me now? I've divorced Qianna to be with you. And in return, you turned off your phone and blacklisted me. Why are you doing this to me?" Lenold let loose a litany of passionate gripes.
"Since when was I fine with you? Don't state misleading messages like this while we're live. I haven't contacted you since I left M Country," Waverly denied.
"Must you say it so heartlessly? We met each other recently, didn't we? How could you say that you haven't contacted me? The Mccarthy family can vouch for this," Lenold retorted.
"That's because something happened to the Mccarthy family, so I had to go back to them. You were still my aunt's husband. We ran into each other so many times, of course, we've seen each other before. But we did not interact with each other, did we? If we did, please share our texts. You may print them out. Go on," Waverly said angrily.
"I don't want to expose them in front of the public," Lenold said.
"What are you talking about now? Lenold, are you implying that you have slept with me?" Waverly shouted, her composure cracking.
"You should know better than I do," Lenold pointed out.
"Isn't that out of the question?" Waverly said impulsively. "I passed out at that time. I didn't know anything."
"Waverly," Bellamy warned. He wanted to stop Waverly but it was too late.
Lenold curled the corners of his lips into a smile. "So... you admit that you're the one in the video, yes?"
Waverly's face blanched instantly. In the end, she was still too delicate. She looked apologetically at Bellamy.
Bellamy was helping her to clear her name and proclaim that the woman in the video wasn't her. Now, it was proven that she was lying. The public trusted her less now, to the extent they wouldn't buy that the woman wasn't her.
"So, are you looking at your broadcast crew?" Lenold said mockingly. "They didn't expect you to come out with it, did they?"
Waverly knew that even if she were to change her words now, the others wouldn't believe her. No matter what she said, they wouldn't believe her anymore, for the trust had been broken. She might as well go all out and said, "Does it delight you, working with other people to frame me? If you really love me, you wouldn't stab me in the back so harshly. Lenold, I see you for who you are now. A shame that I didn't at the beginning."
"My conscience is clear regardless of my love for you or the lack thereof," Lenold said. "As long as you come back to me, I'll be willing to do anything."
"And does that include accusing, framing, and hurting me?" Waverly retorted.
"Accusing? Haven't you slept with me before? Is the video fake?" Lenold said.
"I've never slept with you! The video's fake!" Waverly said animatedly.
"It's Bellamy who never slept with you. It came from your very own lips. Can you deny it?" Lenold raised his voice.
Waverly pursed her lips. She really wanted to lie. She had decided to become a bad person. However, she couldn't bring herself to stoop to their level.
Moreover, she was worried that they would try to get her to prove if she had been penetrated if she claimed that she had passed out. It would push Bellamy into the focus of public opinion. Unlike the situation now, where the pitchforks were pointed against her alone, Bellamy could at least stay out of it.
"I can't prove my innocence," Waverly said. "Even if I have a notary public's office to prove that the person in the video isn't me, some of you will think that it doesn't mean I've never done it.
I'm Mrs. President, the wife of a head of state. If I don't protect myself well and let myself be framed, I'll make the entire country into a hot topic and become a laughing stock to others. I'll be guilty and in the wrong," Waverly said, tears welling in her eyes.
A bad feeling rose in Bellamy as he yelled in concern, "Waverly, what are you doing? Don't push it. We should go over everything carefully. Believe me."
She believed him, for she also knew that he would come up with a solution.
However, she was suffering from so much criticism. If she continued to stay by his side, those who bore ulterior motives would continue to dredge this up in the future. How would he be able to be an upright and dignified President then?
He would be dragged down by her.
"I'm not fit to be the President's wife. I shouldn't have let you all worry about or fuss over my business. Today, I'll file for divorce. But my conscience is clear, and I've done nothing at all." Waverly took a deep breath. Looking at the camera, her gaze became more resolute.
"I've never cheated on anyone, nor have I done anything wrong to my husband or my country. If you still have a sound mind and a conscience and know the truth, please don't attack me anymore. What a country needs is peace, unity, support, and harmony with the rest of the world.
"I also hope that this incident will end with my divorce. Don't speak about it anymore. Thank you, everyone," Waverly said tearfully as she nodded at the camera.
She didn't look at the messages. She dared not to look at them. She had made the worst decision at first but she managed to save herself. Now, it was over. Bellamy wouldn't have to hold a press conference once she made the announcement.
She then ended the live broadcast.
"Why did you say that?" Bellamy rushed forward to ask.
Waverly stopped crying and looked at Bellamy with reluctance in her eyes. Satisfied, she let out a smile. "I want to go home, back to where I should be. Sorry, Bell, I can't move on with you."
Bellamy's gaze became tense, as though his eyes were covered with mist.
On the night of their marriage, he had said to Waverly, "You'll accompany me on the path to the future and we'll move on together. As long as you don't leave me, I promise you I won't leave you alone."
Truly, he had never let go of her hand. No matter how heavy it was, he still wanted to hold it and move forward with her.
It was her who let go first, leaving him with no room to turn the table around.
"Who exactly, is the person you love?" Bellamy asked quietly. His voice was a little hoarse as he eyed her with a fiery gaze.
