Chapter 940 To Be His Knight

The bullet whizzed past Waverly's cheek and went straight into the tree trunk.
However, she did not even blink.
Since she was here, she did not expect to leave alive as she had long put the thought of whether she would live or die out of her mind.
Both sides stopped firing and were waiting for instructions from their superiors.
Then, someone from the Lancaster Army came out. He looked at Waverly and said with a straight face, "The general wishes to see you."
She followed him into the tent of the Lancaster Army.
For a moment, the battle came to a halt.
Then, she saw Paxon, the leader of the group.
The man was tall and dark-skinned, and he was dressed in a blue military uniform. He asked sternly in Z Country's language, "What do you want?"
"A Country has always had a good relationship with Z Country, so I don't think it's necessary to involve us in the internal struggles of your country. The president of A Country is here this time to help your people," she said seriously.
"Help? You're here to plunder our resources, aren't you? The ruling party signed a contract with your country to build a railway and train station for us, but you want our entire mountain range filled with natural resources. You think I don't know about that?" Paxon asked angrily.
"So you want to kill the president of A Country because you think he's supporting the ruling party. Have you thought about the consequences?" She retorted.
"I'm not going to waste time talking to you, but since you are the president's ex-wife, I'll spare your life if you leave now," he ordered her to leave.
"It seems that you're still in the dark about things, and you have no idea that you'll be a scapegoat. What a pity," Waverly said.
"What do you mean by that?" He asked.
"Once Bellamy dies, Jasper will take charge. You might have heard of him, and with his elite troops and high-tech weapons, he can destroy all of you in a moment. He will also plunder all your riches because you killed the president," she said faintly.
"How could Jasper become president? That's ridiculous."
"It's you who's being ridiculous. If you have men in A Country, you can inquire about Jasper's reputation and his foreign resources. He controls the society of A Country, so he's a kingmaker. No one wields power as efficiently as him," she said calmly.
"So, who do you think will be the leader of M Country?" Paxon asked.
His words tipped Waverly off as to what was going on.
This war had something to do with M Country, and also with Joseph.
No wonder he said she would be disgusted.
Joseph was full of schemes, and he was the most frightening person she'd ever seen.
She gave Paxon a smile. "M Country is autocratic. The Harington family and the Mccarthy family are in charge. Now, there are a lot of dangerous things in that family. Even if it wasn't in jeopardy, it is my Uncle Thomson who is in power. He is a loyal and upright person. Who do you think will take over the office in this country?"
Paxon frowned and pondered over her words, "Now that I've started a war, there's no way back."
"Are you really not going to consider having a Plan B for yourself? At least, you have to give some leeway for your parents, wife, and children. As long as you don't kill the president of A Country, it's just a domestic struggle. There is still a chance for you!" She persuaded.
"Can you say this on behalf of the president? If I win, we will not pursue today's matter," Paxon said.
"I can." She spoke firmly.
As soon as she finished speaking, she heard another man say, "No, you can't."
With a hat in his hands, Braque came inside and said to Paxon, "She has already divorced the President of A Country because she betrayed him. How could he ever listen to such a woman?"
"That's why I said that you're stupid, as you have no idea that someone's deceived you. What you see on the surface is far from the truth," Waverly said calmly. She would alert Paxon if she showed any nervousness.
"Therefore, you're saying that the president cares about you!" Holding his pistol, Braque pointed the gun at Waverly and said ruthlessly, "Then I'll use you as a hostage to threaten Bellamy. If he comes out, I'll let you go. If he doesn't, I'll kill you."
"Sir." A soldier ran in from outside and said to Paxon, "General, Bellamy is outside asking to see you."
Thus, Paxon was shocked and he looked at Waverly.
She clenched her fists. She looked calm on the surface, but her mind was a raging storm.
She didn't want Bellamy to come for her. She didn't expect that he would help her when she was in danger.
In an instant, feelings of guilt, anger and worry erupted in her chest.
"Come in," Paxon said.
Then, Bellamy came in alone and stood beside Waverly. He looked at her and said in A Country's dialect, "The hell, who told you to come here?"
He was full of concern and worry even as he was chastising her. On the other hand, she was glad to hear his familiar voice and see him again.
Her eyes were teary, and there her gaze trembled as she looked at him.
They had only not seen each other for a few days, but it felt like they had been separated for a century.
She did not expect to see him again, but they had met again under these dire circumstances. "You've gotten thinner."
When she said this, her voice was already choked with sobs.
Then, Bellamy held her hand.
Her hands were as cold as ice.
On the other hand, his hands were very warm.
Even if she died at this moment, she felt that could do so happily.
"I'm the one you want. She is my ex-wife and she has returned to the life of a civilian. Let her leave," he said to Paxon.
Meanwhile, Waverly held his hand tightly.
From then on, what she needed to do was not to be the princess whom he treasured, but to be a knight who would protect and guard him.
"Paxon, don't forget what I said just now. Bellamy is here, and he is the president of A Country. You can ask him about the details. Don't be a scapegoat and bring harm to your kids. You'll lose everything," Waverly reminded him.
"Don't listen to her nonsense. Don't forget that we signed an agreement," Braque said.
Agreement?
Waverly glanced at him. "Have they already signed an agreement with Joseph?" She thought.
As he stood in front of Bellamy, Paxon said, "If I win, will you support me?"
Then, Waverly looked around nervously.
She was worried that there were cameras around them filming their conversation. Once Bellamy gave his word, it could be used to frame him.
"Your country is in conflict, and it is inconvenient for you to take action or interfere. The help you need can be obtained if we open a channel of communication between our countries. What we want is not war, but peace for the people," Bellamy said in a low voice.
When Paxon hesitated on his decision, a little girl ran in and called out, "Dad."
Waverly was also surprised, as this was the girl whom she had saved before.
