Chapter 957 You Think I'm Being Vulnerable Because I Desire You?

She felt that Jasper and Sean were actually fortunate. Although they both gave up the President's position for the women they loved, Jasper was now happy with Stella; Sean found Eli, with whom he could spend the rest of his life.
In this world, some either pursued a career, success, fame, status, or authority.
And there are also those who simply desired to spend the rest of their lives with their significant other. All they yearn for was to live a simple and healthy life, relying on each other until the very end of it. Even when they've come to the final chapter, their hearts were still filled with longing for one another.
Waverly didn't answer him.
Joseph held the back of her head firmly, forcing her to make eye contact with him. "I'll get someone to send you back later."
She nodded and tried her best to calm down. Even though her mind was blank, she couldn't help feeling that his hawk-like eyes could see something behind hers.
He lowered his head and kissed her lips deeply.
She didn't resist. Instead, she just clenched her fists in response. She was afraid that if she did, Joseph would change his mind and she wouldn't be able to go back. Staying with him was still very dangerous after all.
Ten minutes later, he finally let her go. By then, she was nearly out of breath.
"Why are you so stupid? Why didn't you catch your breath as we kissed?" He scolded her.
It was true that she didn't know how to, plus she had no intention to learn how to either. "I'm not as smart as you."
Standing up, he wrapped himself in a bath towel. "I'll give you 15 minutes. After we're done eating, I'll send you back."
"It's fine if I don't have my meal here as Hayley is cooking at home. I can just go back and eat."
"When I said you should eat, you better do. If you keep this up, I won't allow you to go home today," he shot back coldly as he walked away, not even turning back to look at her.
After changing out of her clothes, she stepped out of the room. He was already waiting for her by the door, ready to walk her to the dining room.
Each of them had their fair share of food. He ate the same food that she did, chicken soup, roasted lamb, romaine salad, and cake for dessert. It was quite a sumptuous meal that the both of them shared.
Waverly was really hungry. She needed to eat in order to get the energy to fight back.
If she didn't eat, the only person suffering would be herself.
Thus, she stuffed herself full of food.
Joseph observed her meaningfully as she gobbled down everything.
All of a sudden, his cell phone rang.
As he picked it up, a ray of light flashed in his eyes. "You're back? A few days earlier than expected... I'm eating now... Yes, I'll see you in an hour."
Hanging up, he turned to her and asked, "Yasmine is back. Do you want to meet her?"
Upon hearing this, her entire body went into defense mode.
Of course, she had to meet Yasmine. After all, Mrs. Lenny was an important pawn in the quest of Joseph obtaining his position. Waverly knew that she had to turn them from friends to foes, but first of all, she had to destroy whatever understanding they had between them.
However, when Joseph presented the opportunity to her, her courage shrank. It always felt like he was setting up a trap for her, and if she fell into it, there was no getting out.
"It's fine. I'll go home after I'm done. I'm feeling a little tired," she mumbled softly.
"We were only in bed for ten minutes, and you're already whining about how tired you feel. How can you be this weak? Don't you jog every day? Is this really the result of it, or are you pretending to be weak in front of me so that you can fool me into pitying you?" He retorted in a harsh tone.
"You know, not everyone can tolerate your sarcasm. Since you already know that I'm trying to gain your pity, there's no more thrill to it," she mocked. She picked up her juice and took a huge gulp of it, quenching the fury that was boiling inside her.
Whenever she got mad, she'd lose all signs of rationality, so she had to regain her composure.
"What are you planning to get out of me by pretending to be weak? Normally, women do that so they'd get pampered by their boyfriends. But you, are you just pretending to be weak so that I'll go easier on you next time? Or are you hoping there wouldn't be a next time?" He sneered.
"You can believe whatever you want to believe. If I tell you my intentions, then where's the fun in that? Now that I'm done eating, we can leave. I wouldn't want to delay you from your next appointment," she answered calmly as she put down the cup in her hand.
"If you wish for me to stay with you, I can take a rain check with Yasmine. Waverly, do you think I should stay for you?" He teased provocatively.
She stared straight at him, trying to decipher what was going through his mind, but it was impossible.
He never showed his true emotions, and even his words held no meaning to them. Thus, it was impossible for anyone to tell what his true motives were.
If she wanted to destroy his alliance with Yasmine, then she should get him to stay.
But if he stayed, she would be in trouble.
As these thoughts were racing through her mind, she felt overwhelmed.
"So, are you brave enough?" Joseph smiled proudly as if he had seen through her thoughts.
As though a sudden realization hit her, Waverly blurted, "Then don't go, stay here..."
"With you?" He continued her sentence with these two words, but it felt more like a question directed toward her.
"Yes," she replied uneasily. She felt as if a fox had trapped her, but... she believed that she had made the correct call. Anyway, they'd already slept together. Since she couldn't stop that from happening, there was nothing worse that could happen.
Joseph's face broke out into a smile as his gaze locked in on her. There was a meaningful look in his eyes.
He remembered that when he wanted her to participate in the Mathematics Olympiad in middle school, she wasn't pleased as he was weaker than her in this subject, so he purposely provoked her, "You don't want to take part in this because you know you can't win against me."
Waverly was proud and arrogant. After hearing this, she was successfully triggered by his words. She fell into the trap he laid out and registered for the competition. As a result, he won first place, and Waverly came in second. She gave him the silent treatment for a month and would avoid him on purpose.
If she knew that it wasn't Yasmine who made the call earlier, would she be so furious that she'd start spitting blood?
The more she looked at him, the more she found his gaze to be odd. "Why are you looking at me like this?"
"I think you're foolish and cute," he chuckled.
She frowned. "Was it not Yasmine on the phone earlier? You lied to me?"
He stood up and responded, "It's pretty fun to tease you."
"So you entertain yourself by making fun of others." She stood up and walked out. His actions really angered her, and she should've known that he would never be so kind. After this, she was determined to do the opposite of what he wanted the next time she was hesitant.
There was no way Joseph would put himself into a position of uncertainty.
She felt that she was truly stupid. Behaving rashly, she had made another mistake.
Before she walked out of the door, he put his arm around her waist and pulled her into his arms. He looked at her furious face and asked, "Where are you going? Didn't you ask me to stay with you?"
Waverly raised the corners of her mouth. "Are you the only one who's allowed to prank people? I was just messing around with you, did you really take my words seriously?"
"The only reason I can mess around is because I'm standing at the top of the pyramid. No one can refute my words. However, you will have to pay for your words." Picking her up, he once again headed toward their room. "Didn't you say you wanted to learn? I have many videos here that you've seen before."
