Chapter 879 I Hope That You Can Protect Yourself Even If I Am Not Around You
Sean looked at her hopeful expression and said, "Sure, I will give it to you tomorrow morning."
"Really? That's great. No words can express my gratitude for you," Eli looked at Sean happily.
Sean sighed and said, "I actually bought it for our daughter. I'll give this one to them first and buy a better one next time."
"Did you buy it a long time ago?" Eli asked in surprise.
"It wasn't that long ago. I took a fancy to it some time ago, so I bought it," explained Sean.
Eli turned around, looked at Sean, and asked, "For some reason, I have a feeling that you would treat our daughter better than me. You even bought a gift for her, but you didn't buy anything for me."
Sean smiled and replied, "Everything I have belongs to you. Am I not the best gift for you?"
Eli narrowed her eyes and said, "That's such a glib reply. It doesn't sound sincere at all."
"I bought one for you too, but it's not suitable to give it to you now," Sean explained.
"Don't you feel guilty after saying all these insincere words?"
"I really did buy it for you."
Eli pursed her lips and fell silent. She sighed and said, "Forget it, I don't really care about it. It doesn't matter if you didn't buy me anything. However, I don't like to listen to such insincere words. It makes me feel that our relationship is fake too. Let's watch some TV."
"Wait a minute." Sean made a video call and said, "Put the items in front of the camera. Mrs. Yaleman would like to have a look."
"Yes, Mr. Yaleman."
Sean handed the phone to Eli and said, "Have a look. I bought all of them for you."
Eli took the phone over and saw a golden doll and a golden crown, as well as magnificent ornaments and a golden staff.
"Did you take this video in the store?" asked Eli straightforwardly.
"Couldn't you see that the doll was customized based on your appearance?" asked Sean helplessly.
"Do I look like that?" asked Eli in discontent. She then said to the person on the other end of the line, "Could you please give me a close-up of the golden doll?"
The person on the other end of the line immediately moved the camera to the golden doll and zoomed in for Eli to have a look.
"That looks like a nesting doll. Am I that fat? Sean, could you be a little more sincere? Stop playing tricks on me," Eli then hung up the phone unhappily.
Frowning, Sean replied, "I gave them a photo of you. They produced a model with 3D printing and then cast the gold in it. How could that not be you?"
"Did you only make my golden doll?"
"I also made mine. We have a matching set. You are the bride and I'm the groom," explained Sean.
"Let me take a look then," said Eli.
Sean made a call again, and Eli noticed that Sean's golden doll did, in fact, look a lot like him.
Eli was enraged when she saw Sean's golden doll. "Why are you so tall and handsome? Whereas mine looks like a nesting doll. Is that me? Or is that one of your other girlfriends?"
Sean took out a photo and showed it to Eli.
Eli was baffled.
He used a photo of her when she was still in junior high school, and she looked exactly like the golden doll then.
She was going through puberty and she gained significant weight at that time. She was fat, round, and short.
"Why did you use this photo?" asked Eli, feeling a little speechless.
"I thought that you looked adorable. You should gain a little more weight," said Sean affectionately.
Eli felt her rage dissipating and said, "Are you trying to say that you've liked me since I was young because I was fat?"
"Well, truth to be told, I don't know either. I just have the feeling that you would be my future wife."
Eli rolled her eyes, lay down on the sofa, and watched the TV with her eyes half-open.
Sean pursed his lips and smiled. He sat next to her and let her lean on him.
He did not know why he liked Eli either. Perhaps, it was because she was always rushing him to hand in his homework, or maybe, it started when he teased her. For some reason, he remembered her. Even after he had transferred to another school, she was always on his mind and she became the person he cared about most.
"Eli, we will be just as happy as Stella and Jasper," said Sean.
Eli did not respond. As Maple had said, having food on the table and a roof over one's head was already considered a life worth living. She could even watch the TV whenever she was bored. Eli felt that she was already leading quite a happy life now.
She closed her eyes and fell asleep while watching the TV.
She thought that Sean would carry her and tuck her into bed. Even if Sean was not around, she could still sleep on the sofa. It didn't really matter. She did not want to ask for too much and just enjoy the moment. After all, the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment.
At times, she would become envious of children who could live their lives without constraints and were not the least concerned about problems on life and death. Although they would become unhappy and admit their mistakes when they were being punished by their mother, they would still forget their worries and run around happily the next day.
Eli found herself sleeping on the bed when she woke up early the next morning. However, Sean was not there.
She guessed that Sean must be working out at the gym now. He always managed himself with discipline, but he had never been strict with her.
Eli felt warmth in her heart. She got up from the bed, brushed her teeth, washed her face, and then went to look for Sean.
"Really? Publish it then. It's a good thing," Sean said. When he noticed Eli was coming in, he added, "I'll treat you to dinner another day."
He hung up the phone, turned to Eli, and said with a smile, "Have you had breakfast? I've asked someone to prepare pastries. They are all your favorites."
"Not yet. I came to look for you once I got out of bed. Have you eaten anything?" Eli asked. She was pleasantly surprised when she saw the lock charm on the table. She took it up, scrutinized it, and said, "The front is the lock charm while the back is embedded with the emerald. It has some weight and it looks pretty good."
"I thought that it was quite good so I bought it. You could give it to Stella later. It's not convenient for me to turn up for the time being."
"Alright, I will come back for lunch at noon. It must be boring for you to be locked up in the villa every day," said Eli.
"No, I'm working when you are asleep. Furthermore, I think that it's quite good to spend time with you even if I stay cooped up in the villa for a year. I haven't eaten breakfast because I was waiting for you. Let's go and have breakfast together," Sean said as he held Eli's left hand.
"It's inconvenient for me to use my arm now. I won't trouble you anymore after I get used to it," said Eli apologetically.
"Even after you get used to your arm, do you think there will be a difference from how you are now?" Sean teased her brusquely.
Eli pulled away from him and patted him on the shoulder, "Don't forget, I have a robotic arm. Do you think that you could beat me if you can install a chip with a combat program inside my arm in the future?"
"Eli." Sean's expression became serious as he said, "My scientific research team is indeed researching the possibility of installing a program inside your arm. For example, when you are in danger, it will activate a shield to protect you, or it could become a weapon and so forth."
"Are you treating me like a research product? Why do I sound like a Robocop or some machine prototype? I don't have the determination and courage to save the world, and I can't accept such heavy responsibilities. If trouble comes, I might even be the first person to betray you."
Sean was amused. "I won't test it on you. I've found ten people to participate in the experiment. I'll only install it on you after the experiment is successful. I hope that you could protect yourself even if I'm not with you."
