Chapter 1076 This Result Was Within Your Expectation

Waverly lowered her eyes to hide her true emotions.
Joseph's words and actions were inscrutable.
One could only comprehend half of his words.
"How did you do it? I didn't play any role in this negotiation. Moreover, if you gave me the title of Peace Lady, Madam Lenny would be devastated," Waverly rationally analyzed.
"What do you think I hired so many navies to keep an eye on the Harington family for? I have negotiated with Ronaldo. Although Ronaldo is not a very smart person, he is not foolish either. Some people will eventually tell him about the stakes in it. Even if Bellamy doesn't pursue it, people would still think that Gollin was the one who framed the Mccarthy family and the Mccarthy family can hold him accountable for it. I decided not to look into it and used it as my bargaining chip in exchange for your Madam Lenny," Joseph explained.
"Why didn't you continue the investigation? If you take out Gollin, you will be one step closer to ascending the throne," Waverly narrowed her eyes and said.
"Because I found out that it wasn't Gollin's people who fired the gun," Joseph replied firmly.
Waverly's heart jolted upon hearing this. She said, "If you're sure that it was Bellamy who did it, then show me the evidence. It'll be beneficial for you. After all, if Bellamy steps down and Jasper does not want to be the president, Beckham will most likely take over. By then, your team will be much stronger than you can imagine."
"If I had the evidence, I would have brought it out long ago. I am just suspicious of him. I don't have any evidence. However, we should let the matters rest here. Besides, having successfully suppressed Gollin has already brought satisfaction to me, "Joseph said.
"Well, you are right." Waverly looked over at the tiny shops, stalls, and their respective owners. The expressions of the passers-by on the street were interesting. Some were full of smiles, some were sad, and some were dazed, and others were indulging themselves in shopping and the delicacies.
As for her... What kind of girl was she? Was she the kind that did not fit in?
Joseph stared at her for a long time before he asked, "What are you thinking about? Why are you frowning in one moment and looking back in the next?"
Waverly shook her head. "I don't know either."
Joseph pursed his lips. He was not satisfied with her answer. He looked at the vendor who was baking a pancake and asked, "Is this good?"
"I don't know, I haven't tried it before. May I know how much one?" Waverly asked.
The vendor replied, "One dollar and fifty cents. How many do you want?"
"I'll have two. Please put them in separate bags," Waverly said as she took out a ten dollar-bill and passed it to the vendor.
The vendor put the pancakes in two bags and handed them to her.
Joseph reached out and took it instead.
The vendor then passed the change to Waverly.
Waverly took the six dollars and saw that Joseph had split each of the pancakes into two pieces.
"Do you need to do that? Do you really think that I'll poison you?" Waverly felt speechless at his actions.
The corner of his mouth curled up into a smile. He took a bite of the pancake and then handed it to Waverly while saying evilly, "I'm testing the pancake for you to check whether there is poison in it. You're too dense."
"I see that you have been promoted to become a food taster now?" Waverly mocked him. She took over the other half of the pancake in his hand, pulled down her mask a little, and took a bite.
Joseph was very satisfied with her behavior. With a happy smile, he took her hand and continued to stroll forward.
Soon, they were tired after walking, so they went for a massage. After that, they found a quaint hotel. They entered a private room and ordered some local delicacies.
During dinner, Joseph's cell phone rang. He answered it and spoke over the phone, "Well, okay. Let's talk about it after dinner."
Waverly observed Joseph's expression as he talked. He became slightly moody, and she thought something must have made him unhappy.
She did not ask nor dared to make a sound. She simply kept her head down and ate silently, trying to make herself Invisible.
"Bellamy sure has a way with beautiful women," Joseph said pointedly. "No wonder you're so infatuated with him."
Waverly looked up at him. "What do you mean?"
"That snakes were initially going for Yasmine. However, at the most crucial moment, Bellamy threw himself in front of her, hence the snakes bit him instead. Now Yasmine was so overwhelmed with gratitude that she might marry Bellamy instead of me," Joseph answered with a mocking sneer.
Waverly's eyes turned red at once and she asked, "Your target has always been Bellamy, right?"
"To get rid of Bellamy would be a piece of cake. If Bellamy had been my target from the beginning, he would be dead by now," Joseph replied nonchalantly. With an indifferent look in his eyes, he asked, "What's wrong? It was not Yasmine who got bitten, but Bellamy. Do you feel sorry for him? Don't forget that he got hurt in order to save another woman. And this woman had been looking for trouble with you all the time."
"Isn't this the result that you expected?" Waverly asked.
"Well," Joseph laughs derisively. "Of course, it's within my expectations. Congratulations, you've guessed it correctly again. You're really smart."
He threw the fork onto the table and his smile disappeared. A gust of cold wind blew and his eyes fell on Waverly's face. He stood up, turned around, and left.
Waverly remained in the chair and did not move. She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. Then, she dialed Hayley's number. "I am now having dinner at the Royal Cuisine Restaurant. Walk forward and then you will see a big restaurant. There are two rows of red lanterns hanging at the entrance. It's very antique. I'm in the Lavender Room, look for me there."
"Okay, Madam. I'm coming now," Hayley replied and hung up the phone.
Waverly continued to eat before her phone rang again. She saw that it was a phone call from Yasmine. Instead of answering it, she took a big gulp of soup.
Her phone stopped ringing a few seconds later and then the screen lit up again. This time, it was a call from Bellamy.
She did not answer it either. Instead, she rang the service bell.
After a while, the waiter came over.
"Give me two bottles of beer," Waverly said.
The waiter stared at Waverly and asked carefully, "Are you Mrs. President?"
"No, I'm not," Waverly answered directly.
"Oh," the waiter responded, and then went to bring the beers over.
Waverly quickly opened a bottle and filled a glass up to the brim. Then, she drank it all in one go.
She didn't know if her heart was flooded with water or alcohol. Either way, tears had begun rolling down from her eyes.
She didn't want to cry. There was no need to cry. It was just an unrequited love.
She had put too many expectations and hope on this secret love, resulting in her disappointment of losing love. Perhaps, what was worse than losing love was that she had never received a shred of love.
She opened the second bottle of beer and gulped it down. Then, she dialed a number.
"Waverly?" Stella said gently on the other end of the phone.
Waverly was silent. At that moment, she badly wanted Stella to help get rid of all the overwhelming memories and pain she was feeling.
However, thinking that she had already lost too much, she knew she would lose more than the things she had already sacrificed if she were to choose to quit now. Then, even if she died, she would not be able to escape from this agonizing game.
Hearing no sound coming from the other side, Stella called out again, "Waverly, are you okay? Waverly?"
