Chapter 1046 You know what? I'm happy

Waverly was nearly suffocated by his kiss. She pushed his shoulder away. Joseph became even more reluctant to let go of her. He closed his eyes and bit her lips.
His body temperature was high. The heat seemed to have spread to her. She felt hot. She didn't know if it was because she was pushing him or because she was getting hot, but her nose was covered in sweat.
Even if he was injured, his strength was still much greater than hers. She couldn't push him away and it was just a waste of strength to do so.
She simply stopped struggling. She closed her eyes and stopped moving.
He let go of her and looked at her stiff state with a smile, "You know what? I'm happy."
She opened her eyes to look at him.
He was delighted. His eyes were sparkling like children's eyes when they saw candy. They were clean and pure.
She must have seen it wrongly or Joseph's acting skills were perfect. She actually thought that his eyes were pure?
"What makes you happy? Escaping death? You know that you won't die. You have the winning cards," Waverly asked.
"That's what you think?" He looked at her with a mysterious expression.
She looked back at him. He was full of cunning tricks and he would never let himself be in trouble.
Everything was under his control.
Even if there was an accident, he had already prepared other plans.
"After this incident, I'm afraid that Gollin will become Ronaldo's biggest issue. Congratulations, you have gotten a step closer to your goal," she said.
Joseph's eyes darkened and he said in a self-mocking tone, "So, this is what you actually think."
Waverly seemed to see vague sadness in his eyes. Before she could see it clearly, his mouth curved up. He returned to his usual arrogant and smug self.
"I was testing if you'd ask Joshua to hand over Yazoo's recording. Congratulations, you've passed the assessment. I'll spare Yazoo's life. However, your freedom has been revoked," he said coldly.
"What do you mean?" She became alert again.
She was waiting for Bellamy to chase Yasmine away and was going to negotiate with A Country.
"Don't you always think that everything is under my control? If you negotiate with Bellamy, he will gain lots of benefits and you will be conferred the title of Peace Lady. What would happen if I don't let you negotiate with him?" He chuckled.
Waverly realized that the current situation was unfavorable to Gollin. Even if it was discouraging, the best result was for Bellamy to not pursue the matter. That way, the Harington family, the Mccarthy family and Ronaldo could attain equilibrium.
Otherwise, Joseph would bring Gollin down. Without him, Ronaldo would be taken down from power at any time.
"You should know. Even if I don't act, Bellamy will still not pursue the matter at Ronaldo's request. After all, Bellamy and Ronaldo's interests are tied together. Whether I go or not has nothing to do with the development of the situation." Waverly tried to convince him.
His eyes drooped, "But I just don't want you to go."
She was speechless.
With a snort, he got up from his seat and walked out of the room.
Just like how he came, he also left in a hurry.
Waverly was upset when she heard a knock on the door.
"Master Joseph asked me to send a set of clean clothes," the maid said.
"Clothes?" She was surprised and looked at the clothes the maid brought. They were pajamas and she was puzzled.
The maid glanced at Waverly's clothes and said, "Madam, hurry up and change."
Following her sight, Waverly saw that her own clothes were dyed red with blood.
She was further irritated.
As always, she couldn't tell whether Joseph was telling the truth or not.
His injury was serious, but on the outside he looked normal. His facial expression was normal. She wondered if he couldn't feel the pain or was he just strong enough to endure it.
He was so strong that it was infuriating.
She took the clothes from the maid and asked, "Where is Hayley?"
"Hayley is resting in the room next door," the maid respectfully replied as she left the room.
Waverly took a bath again. She changed her clothes and laid on the bed. She browsed the news. The headlines were all about Joseph and Gollin.
The keyboard warriors from both sides attacked each other. The situation grew more and more intense. It was all within her expectations.
Furthermore, with Yazoo's testimony, the development of the matter would be beneficial to Joseph.
Unless they found the real murderer.
But who was the real murderer? It was hard to see the truth.
It was already 1:30 a.m. when she stopped scrolling.
Her eyes hurt. Thus, she put the phone beside the pillow, turned off the lights and closed her eyes.
Perhaps it was because of the afternoon nap, she was not sleepy.
She didn't know how long had passed, but she heard someone opening the door. Someone walked in.
From the sound of the footsteps and the scent, it was Joseph.
She had deliberately observed her sleeping state before. Although she did not snore, her mouth would open slightly and her breathing would not be light.
She imitated the way she was sleeping and felt that the mattress beside her had sunk. He put his hand on her waist.
Her breath hitched.
He chuckled.
She frowned and didn't know what he was laughing at.
"Have you observed how you sleep? You're quite good at faking it," he said in a low voice.
She knew that she was exposed, so she dropped the act. She turned around and looked at him, "How did you know that I was pretending? I did a pretty good job."
He was propped on his elbow while watching her.
He didn't turn on the light, but there was silvery moonlight shining through the window.
He could see her facial features clearly.
"You're like this when you are asleep. But as soon as I get on the bed, your breathing will hitch and you will turn over to face me," he explained.
"Turn over to face you?" She did not believe it.
He held her hand and put it on his waist, "You'll do this too."
"Impossible," she said firmly and withdrew her hand.
His eyes were shining with cold light, "Why can't it be possible?"
"I am used to sleeping alone. Any other person will be a disturbance. I won't hug you. That's not like me. You're mistaking me for someone else," she said and turned around.
He pulled her into his arms and said in a hoarse voice, "I'm telling the truth."
She felt an itch in her ears. She was worried that Joseph would force her to couple and did not want to provoke him, "You are injured. Rest early. I am sleepy too."
"Are you concerned about me or are you worried about me touching you?" He looked at the night sky and his eyes became darker.
