Chapter 1049 She Didn't Want Pity Nor Conspiracy
There were a few pieces of bread, a large bag of beef jerky, water, shotguns, knives, flashlights, plastic bags and a small bottle of salt.
She gave a piece of bread to Hayley, "Eat this. Eat while walking. You should also have this in your bag and there is beef jerky in it."
"Yes. Thank you, Madam." Hayley ate. After all, she was still growing, so she had a big appetite.
Waverly walked towards the mountain. In addition to Hayley, two of Joshua's men followed her.
Hayley quickly finished the bread and said to her, "Madam, I love hunting. I'll lead the way."
"Okay. We should also get some wild vegetables. There should be a lot of wild vegetables this season. Let's see if we can find them."
"Okay."
After they walked in the forest for more than half an hour, Waverly found a lot of wild leeks in the forest. She set up three traps nearby and squatted on the ground to pick up the vegetables.
Hayley assisted her.
Joshua's two subordinates stood there expressionlessly.
"Aren't you going to help?" Waverly asked.
The driver said with an expressionless face, "We are only responsible for your safety. The rest have nothing to do with us."
Waverly was speechless.
She collected wild vegetables for three hours. There were a lot of leeks, onions and spinach.
When she went to check the traps, she found that two of the traps were empty. There was a wild chicken in one of the traps.
Hayley picked up the chicken and said, "There's chicken soup tonight. Great."
Waverly looked at her phone. It was almost 3:30. She said, "We have walked a lot. Now, we have to go back."
Hayley was not satisfied yet, "Madam, you can return first. I walk fast. Besides, I'm small and it's easy for me to hide. I'll look around again. Maybe I can find something else."
"I'm worried about leaving you alone," Waverly said.
"I have a shotgun and I practice martial arts. I know how to climb trees and I have practical experience in the jungle. Moreover, I'll stay around for just an hour. I'll definitely return before dark," Hayley promised.
Waverly looked at the person carrying the suitcase and said, "Follow Hayley and protect her."
The man's face fell, "I'm just a doctor. I need protection."
Waverly was bewildered.
She looked at the driver, but before she spoke, the driver said, "I am under orders to protect you, Madam. Hayley is also protecting you. Now, she can go with us or..."
The driver looked at Hayley, "Catch up with us earlier. It's difficult for me to protect two people by myself."
"I see. If there is any danger, you can shoot at the sky three times and I will meet you guys immediately," Hayley promised and passed the chicken to the doctor.
Without Waverly's permission, she ran away quickly.
Waverly felt resigned. Hayley was young afterall. She was like a free bird when she had the chance to be out.
She quickened her pace on the way back. After an hour, she returned to the portable house.
Joshua came over and stood in front of her. His face darkened and he said, "Are you going back to A Country tomorrow?"
"What's wrong?"
"Master Joseph is so kind to you. He came here for you when he's ill and he's been on an IV drip for the whole afternoon. Instead of taking care of him, you want to see your ex-husband. Do you have a conscience?" He scolded her.
She fixed her eyes on him and said, "Joshua, you have your stand and I have mine. I don't blame you for scolding me because you feel sorry for Joseph, but even if you do so, you won't get a satisfactory answer from me. People are selfish. For the sake of what they want, they can ignore everything else. Get out of the way, I'm going to cook."
"You're going to regret returning to A Country," he warned.
She lifted the corners of her mouth, "I never regret my decisions. Where is the kitchen?"
"Hmph." Joshua snorted loudly, as if he wanted to make sure that Waverly could hear him.
He walked forward and took her to a room on the far end.
She saw a lot of cut up meat hanging at the door of the room. There were rabbits, chickens, a wild boar, and fish. The meat looked fresh.
She looked at him and asked, "Where did you get the meat?"
"Where did I get it? Of course, they were hunted on the mountain. Would we be able to eat with your little games?" He said sardonically.
She frowned, "Were you also hunting on the mountain?"
"Of course. There are still a lot of clean wild vegetables in the room. Go in and have a look." Joshua looked at his watch and said, "Hurry up. It's getting dark and Master Joseph is hungry."
"There's so much meat. I can't cook them all. Aren't you guys having it?"
"There's still more. Besides, Master Joseph said that he'll be barbecuing with you tonight. Clean and prepare these meat, fish and vegetables. There are seasonings in the kitchen. Call me if you need anything else. I don't want to see you at all. You're so annoying," he said. After that, he snorted again and left haughtily.
She pushed the door open and sure enough, there were a lot of clean wild vegetables, flour, spices, noodles and so on.
After thinking for a while, she began to cook.
Two hours had passed. She had finished cooking dinner. The sky was dark. Hayley wasn't back yet.
Waverly was worried and called her.
She was even more concerned when she couldn't reach her.
"Are you done cooking? I'm about to starve to death," Joshua said unhappily.
"It's ready. Ask someone to take the dishes out. Where is Hayley? Have you seen her?" She asked.
"She is so short. Who would be able to see her?" He said in annoyance.
"I'm asking you seriously. She hasn't come back yet," she said worriedly with a solemn expression.
Joshua rolled his eyes, "She came back half an hour ago with two pheasants. We were having dinner then. She joined us and ate more than we did. Now, she's going to take a bath."
Waverly was speechless.
"You should've brought her to me first when she came back," she scolded.
"D*mn it. I wanted to bring her to you first, but she insisted on eating. Stop talking, Master Joseph is hungry." Joshua looked inside.
There were chopped dressed vegetables, meatballs, pan-fried rabbit, stewed pork, chicken soup with mushrooms and steamed fish.
Joshua licked his lips and said, "It looks pretty good."
"There are many dishes. We can't finish them. If you are not full, you can have a second meal," she said.
"I know." He rolled his eyes at her again. He called for people to send the dishes to the room next to Joseph's.
Waverly went to take a bath first. She was covered with sweat and it was uncomfortable.
When she went to the room, Joseph was already there. He was eating the meatballs with his head down. His mood was somber, as if something had happened…
