Chapter 908 Watch Out for That Old Fox

"The truth isn't important. What's important is being able to pull strings from behind the scenes. It's been five years. I, too, want to witness Bellamy's strength. In the time to come, there'll be a bloodless war. However, no matter who wins or loses, in my eyes, they're just fish in the sea, while I'm the fisherman," Sean explained calmly.
"I understand," Reuben said, nodding his head.
"Tomorrow, you'll go to Eli's. You're like a brother to her and me. Please take good care of her. Remember to keep an eye out on any man who buzzes around her. I could only blame her for being such a magnetic woman," Sean said helplessly.
Reuben cast Sean a strange look. He lowered his head even more respectfully and promised, "I shall do my best to protect and take good care of Mrs. Yaleman and await your return, Mr. Yaleman."
Sean's gaze was very intense. He patted Reuben's shoulders and said, "No point just waiting for me. Remember to squelch whatever potential romantic interest in their buds. I'm the only man she needs. Do you understand?"
Reuben let the remark sink in before replying, "Yes."
Meanwhile, at the President's office...
After they returned from their trip, Waverly went to her room to sort out the photos she had taken over these few days.
There were quite a number of photos, and most of them had Bellamy in it. She kept all of Bellamy's photos in a folder on her computer to treasure them, even setting a folder password.
Bellamy also returned to his study. He had to start working tomorrow. However, he still had many other things to attend to, and in particular, the videos.
He was so occupied that he was still up when the clock struck two in the morning.
He was thirsty, but the room was out of water. Hence, he went out to pour some.
"Why aren't you asleep yet, Mr. President? Would you like me to prepare some snacks?" Marie came out to ask when she heard some noise.
"No, thanks. You should go to bed early. It's getting late," Bellamy said with a grin.
"Alright, I'll head off then," Marie said and went back to her room.
Waverly wasn't asleep either. Her thoughts were a complete welter. Furthermore, she had slept quite a bit on the plane. When she heard the sound of someone talking in the corridor outside, she walked out of the room and noticed that Bellamy was still awake.
Her days with Bellamy was numbered now. "Bell, may I have a chat with you?"
"Well, come on over," Bellamy said. He carried the kettle into his study to boil the water, then he heard Waverly's footsteps near the door. He didn't hide the concern in his tone. "Haven't you slept yet?"
"I can't. Maybe it's because I've slept too much during the day. We're going to clear my name tomorrow, right?" Waverly asked.
"I've hired the most resourceful experts. They're discussing how to steer public opinion with the people in charge of Student's Giggles. Student's Giggles said that recently there's an app that took only two months to get a huge amount of traffic, which will overtake them soon."
"Really?" Waverly wondered aloud. "Is it also a discussion app like Student's Giggles?"
Bellamy nodded. "A user who shares a message in that app will be able to earn 10 cents, which means that if there are 10 million shares in one day, the total payout will amount to a million dollars."
Waverly understood Bellamy's words. "What you're saying is that, even if I'm officially proven to be innocent tomorrow, they'll still recruit their users to twist the facts and attack me."
"That's not all," Bellamy reminded. "Take another guess again."
Waverly knew that Bellamy was teaching her, and it gave her a warm and fuzzy feeling. She thought for a bit and said, "The posts in Student's Giggles are worth 2 cents. If you say that the other app offers 10 cents for doing the exact same thing instead, then most of the Student's Giggles users will hop over there. If Student's Giggles wants to survive, they must raise the payout to at least 10 cents or more."
"Venture deeper," Bellamy said, his expression serious.
"You said that the app has a lot of funds. It must have attracted a very wealthy investor." A thought flashed across Waverly's mind. She seemed to be enlightened and said worriedly, "Did Sean Yaleman invest in the app?"
"Many people know that Student's Giggles belongs to Stella. Five years ago, she stepped down and let my people manage it. Not all businessmen have the guts to compete with me. Moreover, Jasper has taken control of most of the conglomerates in A Country three years ago. That is to say, the app is sponsored from a source abroad," Bellamy said.
"This won't bode well. Once someone over there climbs the ladder, they may shoulder a part of the national debt that the citizens would have to repay," Waverly said, her expression dreadful.
"Another possibility is that Sean's the foreign investment. However, Sean called me as he got off the plane and said that he deliberately spurred others to release the video in order to create a loophole..." Bellamy mused.
"On one hand, he's trying to please you; on the other hand, he's going against you. He's a tough nut to crack," Waverly interrupted Bellamy.
"He's not really a schemer, and he can't take down the three giants. I'm currently discussing this with Student's Giggles and we've come up with over a hundred plans. Tomorrow, the clearing of your name will mark the beginning of a real battle. The best way, apart from having Student's Giggles steer public opinion, is for you to spend a whole day on live broadcast tomorrow," Bellamy said in a low voice.
Waverly lapsed into silence. Although the videos were fake and she and Lenold were framed at that time, she had been well-protected by Bellamy for so long. She had never received any harm from public opinion.
All of a sudden, she now had to face the sharp criticism of those people. Anxiety washed over her. "Do you really want me to go live?"
"I'll be there during the broadcast. I'll relay to you any questions that you have to answer through a Bluetooth headset. If public opinion was really influenced by your live appearance, it might be a modicum more effective. Sean dug a loophole on purpose for me to jump into and break out from it. But I don't trust him completely. He's too shrewd and cunning. He definitely has even more ulterior motives," Bellamy went on.
Waverly nodded. "If you'll let me go live, I'll do it. I'm innocent, so I'm not afraid of their attacks."
"They should be asking you about what happened in the past. I've written down 52 questions that they may ask along, with the answers. You can have a look later. It's best to memorise all of them," Bellamy advised.
Waverly took a deep breath. The following day, she would be fighting with others without any armor, and she would have to reopen all of her past scars.
However, if she won, could it also mean that she didn't need to divorce Bellamy?
"Email it to me later," Waverly said. "I'll read it right away, and I'll be sure to remember it by heart."
Bellamy gave Waverly a pleasant smile. She had always been true to her words. "Right, you said that you wanted to talk to me. What is it about?"
