Chapter 843 Why Don't You Leave? Let's Go
Oddly, she didn't feel sad at all. Her heart was so calm that even she found it surprising.
Perhaps, she had already expected this scene today, so she felt nothing when it happened.
She looked at Reuben, who was also looking at her.
"If we see them, we should avoid them, right?" Eli asked calmly.
"Yes, try not to wander about in front of them unless there is a special need to. I have already allocated people to serve by their side. The kitchen has also prepared the ingredients for today. It's October, so the crabs will have eggs. Before they eat, we have to go make sure that everything is in order. "
Eli nodded and said, "Then, what do we eat for lunch? I haven't eaten crabs for a long time. I kind of miss eating them. A Country has delicious crabs, especially those from the lake. They are very fresh."
Reuben smiled. "I've prepared six for them. The crabs will go to waste if they can't finish them. I can give them to you instead."
"Reuben, you're so kind. I'm going to stick with you from now on," Eli laughed. She grabbed his hand and led him away so that Sean would not see them.
She was worried that Sean would be in a bad mood and would try to torture her again.
Reuben looked at Eli's hand in his and blushed even redder.
Eli and Reuben continued patrolling the other areas after Sean and his girlfriend went past them. They put away all the flowers. Once they were done, they went into the kitchen from the backdoor and made sure everything was going smoothly.
"Reuben, how long is our working hours?" After all, Eli had just recovered from her jump. She was a little tired.
"It's not fixed. It depends on Mr. Yaleman's schedule. Normally, you can rest after 9 p.m. Sometimes, there will be special circumstances. For example, when Mr. Yaleman goes out to socialize, he will definitely come back late, or sometimes he gets drunk, so we have to make the necessary arrangements."
"What about noon? We have time for lunch, right?" Eli asked.
"Yes. You are allowed to rest after making the necessary arrangements. If you're tired, then go and rest. You don't have to rush. Take your time," Reuben said gently.
"Thank you, Reuben. Then I'll go back and rest for a while. I'll look for you when I wake up," Eli said.
"Are you not going to have your lunch?"
"Where are we supposed to eat?"
"There's a dining area. You should head back and have a rest first. I'll come and get you when the food is ready," Reuben said thoughtfully.
"Thank you," Eli said sincerely. She went back to her dorm. She felt sleepy as soon as her head hit her pillow. She was fast asleep shortly after.
When she woke up, she saw Reuben sitting there.
Reuben looked away in embarrassment when he met her surprised gaze.
Eli sat up and scratched her head. "Have you been here for a long time?"
"Yeah, you were sleeping, so I didn't wake you up."
Eli wondered if she should tell him that she had woken up from hunger.
She wasn't the type of person who could withstand hunger. "Could we eat now?"
Reuben smiled and said, "Yes, I prepared three crabs for you. But your body is still weak so you shouldn't eat too much seafood. It's best if you only have two."
Eli was so happy that she jumped up. "Reuben, I love you so much. You're the best."
With a blush on his face, he walked in front and brought her over to the staff dining area for lunch.
At this hour, other servants had already eaten. As Eli tried to eat the crabs, she found it difficult to do so with only one hand.
Eli could only laugh. This must be God's will.
Noticing her embarrassment, Reuben deshelled a crab's leg, dipped it in the sauce, and passed it to her.
Eli looked at Reuben. Her eyes were red and misty. She lowered her head and ate the crab leg as her tears started to well up. "Thank you, Reuben."
"You..." Reuben hung his head and didn't say anything.
"What- what about me?" Eli asked in confusion.
"Mr. Reuben," A maid ran over and said, "Mr. Yaleman is asking for you."
"Okay," Reuben put down the crab, washed his hands, and went outside.
The maid didn't follow him. Instead, she stood in front of Eli and said angrily and unpleasantly, "Mr. Reuben isn't someone you are allowed to fall in love with."
Eli lifted her chin and looked at the maid, "Do you think you can then? With your petty jealousy, your insecure personality, and your busybody character?"
"What do you mean by that?" the maid asked with her hands on her hips.
"Warning someone else not to snatch away their crush is a huge sign of insecurity. If you are confident in yourself, you would know that the man you like would not fall for anyone else. Why bother with outsiders? If you're not confident enough, why would he like you? If he doesn't like you, then he's not yours. Aren't you a busybody for being mean to me over a man who isn't even yours?" Eli explained.
"No matter what, I'm still better than a disabled like you," The maid said, gritting her teeth.
Eli smiled slightly and didn't bother to argue. She just wanted to eat her crabs in peace. "So, Reuben and I are just colleagues. Don't overthink."
"There are a lot of girls here who like Reuben. Don't blame me for not letting you know. Stop wasting your efforts," After giving her the warning, the maid left.
Eli found the ordeal hilarious. Even if that maid had a crush on Reuben, it had nothing to do with her. She was already in her thirties, and she was disabled. She had nothing to look forward to. She was just trying to enjoy the little moments in life.
She was self-aware and she understood that no one would fall for her. He took care of her probably because he pitied her for having only one arm.
She continued to struggle with the crabs alone. She pressed it down on the table and peeled off the shell with her mouth. However, it was still inconvenient for her.
Now that she had lost an arm, she truly thought having two arms was such a blessing.
Ten minutes later, Reuben reappeared with a disturbed expression.
"Reuben, look, I'm eating crabs with one hand. Ain't I amazing?" Eli said happily.
"Miss Wayne," Reuben paused for a moment and said with concern, "Mr. Yaleman has asked you to serve him."
Eli stopped eating.
There was nothing unusual about Sean doing such a thing. "I've only eaten one crab, but I still want the other two. Could you help me hide them?"
Reuben nodded and looked at her with pity. "They are going to play golf now. I will be there too. I might be a bit far away but you could always look for me if you need help."
"Reuben, why are you so nice to me?" Eli asked curiously.
"I don't know either," Reuben looked down.
Eli did not make things difficult for him. She said wittily, "I'm going to wash my hand. I've got the smell of crabs on my hand. I don't want to expose the fact that I've eaten crabs secretly."
She ran to the sink, squeezed some soap out, and washed her hand diligently. Then, she sniffed her hand to make sure there was no smell anymore. She waved at Reuben. "Let's go."
Reuben walked beside Eli. "What's your relationship with Mr. Yaleman?"
Eli shrugged. "Nothing good."
"Why would you want to stay by his side then? I could tell that he harbors ill will towards you," Reuben said straightforwardly.
Eli looked ahead...
