Chapter 939 Fearless
The building was in ruins. The ground was filled with potholes, bricks, and glass debris everywhere. Dead bodies were lying on the ground, some people were wounded, some were crying and wailing in pain. The smoke of gunpowder and the smell of death lingered in the air.
Waverly's heart was in anguish. She got out of the car and saw a man who looked like he was from A Country. She ran over and asked that person, "Are you from A Country?"
The man looked at Waverly and said respectfully, "Mrs. President."
"Have you seen Bellamy? How is he? Where is he now? Is he injured?" Waverly asked anxiously.
The man shook his head, "I don't know."
Waverly ran toward the embassy.
"Mrs. President!" the man shouted, "There's no one else in the embassy now. They've all been taken away by the Lancaster Army."
"Why did the Lancaster Army take them away? Didn't Bellamy come all the way here to negotiate?" Waverly was puzzled.
"I don't know. Mrs. President, you'd better leave soon. It's too dangerous here. A Country has ordered someone to pick us up at the dock. I heard that they will leave at midnight. If we don't go now, we will not be able to escape this place," the man said.
Waverly ran to the embassy stubbornly despite the warning. The building was littered with bullet holes, and many people were lying on the ground.
"Bellamy," Waverly shouted anxiously, "Bellamy, Bellamy!"
"Madam, don't worry. Even if the Lancaster Army finds the President of A Country, they will not kill him. They still need him alive to run the negotiations," Rory comforted her.
"Things are not that simple. If Bellamy is dead, those behind the scenes would then be able to do whatever they want. The first people whom they have to deal with are Jasper and Stella. Bellamy has tried his best to protect them." Waverly was so worried that her eyes turned red and tears rolled down her cheeks.
She knew that she shouldn't cry at this moment. However, she was at her wits' end. She was afraid that Bellamy was in trouble.
She wanted to protect him. Even though she knew that the person Bellamy loved was Stella, she still wanted to protect the person whom he wanted to protect.
"If Bellamy was caught, they will surely put forward harsh conditions that would put A Country at a disadvantage. Even if he was sent back to the country, I'm afraid that the consequences would be dire. Bellamy cannot die, nor could he be caught," Waverly said firmly.
She took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down.
She must calm herself down in order to be able to think rationally.
All of a sudden, a man ran out with his hands on his belly. Seeing Waverly, he said, "Mrs. President, don't worry. They didn't catch Mr. President, but he is in danger now."
Hope ignited in her chest. She ran over and said to Rory, "Could you please help him with his injuries?"
"Mr. President is now at Javilion Bay. The Lancaster Army is gone, but he is in danger now," The man said while gasping.
"Where are our men? Why didn't anyone save Bellamy? Jasper should be here, yes?" Waverly said in confusion.
"They are here, but the Lancaster Army threatened us with our men. They are in a deadlock, and I'm sure that General Milton has sent out some people in secret. We don't know what's going on at the moment."
"Let's go to Javilion Bay now." Waverly walked toward the door.
Rory took her hand and said, "Madam, it'll be pointless if you were to go over now. There are a lot of them, and there are only the three of us. If you go, you'll die."
Waverly knew that was true, but she couldn't just watch Bellamy die and do nothing, "I'm already very grateful that you all have decided to accompany me here. I'm also very sorry to put your lives at risk. Please help me bring this little girl to A Country and let Stella raise her. Stella is gentle and kind. She has great empathy. She will definitely take good care of this girl."
However, on second thought, if something were to happen to Bellamy, then Stella would not be spared either.
However, apart from Stella, there didn't seem to be anyone suited for the task.
She hoped that Stella could make the arrangements.
"Madam," Rory called out.
Waverly looked at the injured man and said, "Send him to the dock and ensure that he gets on the ship of A Country safely."
"Madam, it's too dangerous for you to go alone. I'll come with you," Rory said. He then turned to look at Seth, "Remember the Madam's instructions well, Seth."
"Thank you," Waverly said to Rory.
Seeing that Waverly was about to leave, the little girl ran to her side and took her hand.
Waverly realized that she hadn't explained anything to the little girl. She squatted down and said softly, "Don't worry. I have entrusted you to a very good person. She will take good care of you and raise you in a good environment. You will live a happy and fulfilling life."
"I'll go with you," the girl said firmly.
"Be a good girl, okay? What I'm going to do next is very dangerous and I may not come back alive. It would be too dangerous if you were to follow me. Be good and follow Uncle Seth. He will protect you," Waverly looked at Seth and said to the little girl.
The little girl clenched Waverly's hand tightly.
"Madam, let her follow you. She trusts you more. Her life might be at risk if she follows Seth around," Rory said.
Waverly took a deep breath. "Okay, let's go together then."
They got in the car and drove to Javilion Bay.
Along the way, they could hear gunshots and explosions going off.
Waverly dialed Bellamy's mobile phone, but the call couldn't get through. It seemed that he had switched off his phone. She didn't know if he was alright.
"Let's head over to ground zero," Waverly said.
Rory looked at Waverly in confusion and asked, "Why?"
"The fiercer the battle, the more likely Bellamy will be there. After all, he is the leader of A Country, hence their reinforcements would be focused on capturing him."
"But we'll definitely die if we go there."
"They captured Bellamy because they wanted to use him. If I were to present myself as a more valuable target, they would naturally let Bellamy go," Waverly said calmly.
"But you are no longer First Lady of A Country. This is international news. It's impossible that they haven't heard of it."
"There's still hope. When that time comes, you should take her with you..." Waverly looked at the little girl, smiled, and said, "Get out of here safely."
Rory frowned and said, "You're throwing your life away, Madam."
Waverly looked ahead in determination, "It's worth it to die like this for him."
Rory knew that no words would change Waverly's mind, and they headed for ground zero.
They could see sparks and smoke coming from the ground as they approached ground zero. Waverly draped the flags of M Country and A Country on her body and got off the car.
"Madam!" Rory shouted in worry.
"You may leave now. My safety is no longer your responsibility. You have completed your mission, Rory," Waverly said calmly.
"Madam!" Rory shouted again, hoping that Waverly could change her mind.
She was only 26 years old, and she had a long way ahead of her. She would have lived a happy and fulfilling life if she hadn't come to this place.
Waverly smiled at him, like a blooming flower. With a gorgeous smile, she walked forward fearlessly.
In the language of Z Country, she said, "I'm Waverly, former wife of the President of A Country, the child of the Mccarthy family in M Country. I'm working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in M Country. I want to meet the leader of the Lancaster Army."
With a loud bang, a bullet headed her way...
