Chapter 803 Don’t Have Many Friends, So Cherish Them Dearly
Stella woke up and realized that Jasper was not sleeping by her side.
Her heart tightened as she shouted, "Jasper."
"I'm here," Jasper replied as he opened the door and looked at her.
Seeing that he was around, she smiled lightly and asked, "Did you only sleep for a while?"
"Not really," Jasper looked at his watch and replied, "It's almost four now. I just woke up a little earlier than you."
"Ah? It's four now. I have slept for that long," Stella said and got up with an embarrassed smile.
She went to the washroom and brushed her teeth. After combing her hair, she went downstairs and saw Jasper bringing her some soup.
"Let's eat something first. We'll go out to eat later. There's a new movie. Let's go and watch it together after we have eaten," Jasper said.
Stella took the bowl of soup from him and started sipping. The chicken bits were tender and tasty, "Have you cooked it for long?"
"I use the pressure cooker, so it didn't really take much time," Jasper replied and filled up a bowl of soup for himself.
Stella looked at him. He had always been calm, resolute, and silent.
Wasn't this how life was?
Eating together, going to bed together, listening patiently when he talked about his work and confiding in him when she was upset.
It was about leading a daily simple life, along with the loved one, food and drinks.
Wasn't it the life that she had always been pursuing?
"I read a book once. There was a place on an island that was a paradise. That place had a bird as huge as a house, which could carry hundreds of people through the sky. It also had a fish with wings that could carry people across the sea. People there lived and worked in peace and contentment. They were able to enjoy all the delicious food in the world and do the things they enjoy doing. It was warm in the winter and cool in the summer. There were also magical medicines when they got sick."
"Is that a mythological story?" Jasper asked, humoring her.
"We are actually living in this paradise. Many ancient people envied that place. The bird is actually a plane and the wing fish is actually a submarine," Stella explained.
Jasper nodded.
Stella held his hand and said, "I'm not a mind reader. A lot of times, I don't know what you're thinking. I'm your wife and the one who will stay with you for the rest of your life. We have to rely on each other till the day we die. You must tell me if you have anything on your mind."
"I'll definitely tell you if there are such things on my mind," Jasper promised.
Stella smiled. While she felt love, she felt peace too, as if she had the entire world.
After the meal, she went upstairs and turned on her cell phone. There were a few missed calls. Some of them were from the clinic, some from unfamiliar numbers and some from the police station.
She returned the call to Archer first.
"Doctor Grace, a patient whom you have treated before, came to the clinic to thank you for his recovery," Archer said.
"It's my responsibility to treat them. There's no need to thank me. Is there anything else?"
"I have tried to consult a patient today. The result seems good. I'll ask you if there is anything I don't understand," Archer said happily.
"Since you've treated patients, find another assistant. You may arrange for it."
"Okay, thank you, Doctor Grace."
Stella hung up and returned another call from an unfamiliar number, "Hello, I'm Stella. Who is this?"
"Hello, Doctor Grace, I was referred to you by Mr. Bryan Fellow. My name is James Jackson," The man said politely.
Bryan was one of her former patients.
Since he mentioned Bryan's name, Stella guessed that he was probably calling to consult her about his condition.
As expected, James said, "I've some questions that I would like to consult you."
"Well, I'm sorry. I'm not seeing any patients for the time being. Are you from A Country? I am going back to A Country in a few days," Stella said.
"That's great. I am going back to A Country in a few days too. Could I make an appointment with you then?" James said.
"I'll contact you when I am there. I still have some matters to attend to here. We'll be in touch," Stella told him and hung up.
She would still be a psychologist after she returned to A Country.
However, Jasper might arrange for her to serve in the military. If she served in the military, it would be inappropriate for her to consult any other patients.
However, James was referred to her by a former patient. If she could not treat James, she would refer him to some other doctors instead.
Finally, she called the police station.
"Stella, you finally returned my call," Sheldon complained, "Our people have bumped into the murderer. Their cars almost collided. The murderer was quite well-mannered. He apologized profusely after he got out of the car, which left a good impression. However, they didn't exchange any phone numbers. What should we do next?"
"It's normal that they didn't exchange phone numbers because we didn't find the same phone number in the previous victims' contact lists," Stella said.
"How do they contact each other next time? Hasn't he targeted our people? Since he didn't exchange his number with the previous victims, how did they contact each other again? Did we identify the wrong suspect?" Sheldon said, confused.
Jasper looked toward Stella and said in a low voice, "The murderer is very smart and very vigilant. He will make sure that he does not leave his number. Instead, he will follow his prey for a long time and make sure it's safe before taking action. He will also create a lot of accidental encounters in the process."
"Get Edwin to investigate whether the murderer is the one who followed our people," Stella immediately reminded him.
"Oh no. Our people were at the police station this afternoon. If the murderer followed our people, wouldn't that mean that he would have already known that we are the police? What should we do?" Sheldon said worriedly.
"Have Edwin investigate it first. If it is confirmed that the murderer had followed them, then our people's identity would have been exposed. However, the murderer will not take any action in the short term since he is more vigilant now."
"It's over," Sheldon said, sounding depressed.
"That might not necessarily be the case. We could ask Edwin to monitor his tracks for 24 hours. Maybe he has a target for now. As long as we find out who his target is, we could then follow him further. It's more reliable than sending our people."
"I guess that's the only way," Sheldon said and hung up.
Stella sighed and said, "I think that this case may not be over in a short time. It's similar to the previous case. We need to find out the exact timing they are going to commit the next crime."
"I've already told Vann about it. We'll dispatch Eleven next. All these cases have to wait. Take it easy. We could probably travel around a little before we go home."
"Could we go to D Country? I would like to visit Eli before leaving for home," Stella said.
Jasper nodded and replied, "I'll accompany you tomorrow."
Stella was getting a little nervous when she thought she would see Eli the next day.
She wondered how Eli was doing.
If Eli was still waiting for Sean, then she must save him once she returned to A Country.
Stella did not have many friends, so she cherished them dearly.
