Chapter 868 With Love In Our Hearts, It's Okay To Not Be Together

"What? Which Mr. Yeager?" Sean frowned as he sat up from the bed.
"Brock Yeager," one of Brock's men reported.
Sean was stunned. After regaining his calmness, he asked cautiously, "How did he die?"
"He died from a heart attack at 1 a.m. He has already stopped breathing when he was sent to the hospital. The doctor couldn't save him," Brock's subordinate reported.
"Okay, I understand. Send me the address and I'll come over now," Sean said in a deep voice and hung up the phone.
Eli did not feel like sleeping anymore. She asked, "Who died?"
"Brock," Sean replied as he put on his clothes.
"Did you kill him?" Eli asked.
"No, I didn't. I was told that he died of a heart attack. I have to go to the hospital now. You should rest at home, don't wait up for me," Sean insisted.
Eli nodded and watched as Sean left the room.
She heard the sound of the car leaving. Brock's death was too sudden.
She lay in bed for a while but could not fall asleep. Hence, she got up, opened the door, and went downstairs. She was shocked when she saw Reuben.
However, when she thought about it, it was normal for him to be there.
After all, he had to make all the necessary arrangements for Sean, including his departure to the hospital.
"Did I wake you?" he asked worriedly.
Eli shook her head and replied, "I couldn't sleep anyway. I'm actually a little hungry. I was about to go to the kitchen to find something to eat."
"Give me half an hour. I'll fix something for you," Reuben immediately said.
"I realize that it's really good to have you around. I'll just need to look for you if I need anything," Eli said with a smile.
Reuben curled his lips into a slight smile and said, "Go watch the television. The food will be ready soon."
"Come eat with me, it's lonely to eat alone. I haven't eaten with you in a long time."
"Okay then," Reuben answered, "You should put on more clothes. It's chilly at night."
Eli could sense that Reuben was a decent man. He was resourceful, and he knew how to take care of others. "Your clothes are a little thin. You'll need to put on more clothes as well. I'll go upstairs and put on some clothes now."
Eli went back to the room, put on a sweater, and hopped downstairs gleefully.
Reuben was waiting for her downstairs. Watching her from below, he smiled and said, "Be careful."
Eli felt a little warm in her heart. "Reuben, you are so kind to me."
With an uneasy look on his face, Reuben said, "I have already turned on the television for you. I have saved some comedy videos for you since you like them."
Eli was extremely touched. She wanted to do something for Reuben to return the favor, but she had nothing to offer.
"Reuben, I have a friend named Stella Grace, and Jasper Milton is her husband. Bellamy Chuck, the President of A Country is his twin brother. If you can't find a job one day, you may go and look for Stella. I'll tell her that you are my good friend," Eli said.
Reuben hesitated for a while, looked at Eli, and said, "Why don't you look for her? With such a powerful background, she should be able to protect you. I heard that the Southern Bay is now an important military base and the most prosperous area in Country A."
Eli pursed her lips and lowered her eyes.
She had a lot going in her mind, and she did not want to lie to Reuben. However, she could not tell her thoughts to him. "Let's not talk about this now, I'll go watch the television."
Reuben held Eli's hand and said cryptically, "If Sean dies, you will be free."
Eli shook her head and replied, "If Sean dies because of me, I won't be able to live on. I will never be free. That kind of guilt and self-blame will be extremely torturous. Well, Reuben, I don't want to talk about these heavy topics anymore."
"Okay," Reuben replied, letting go of her hand. There was a slight flicker in his eyes as it grew darker.
The meal was ready shortly after.
There were pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausages, sauteed mushrooms, and poached eggs.
Eli started devouring the food.
"Slow down, you are eating too fast. It'll be hard to digest the food in the middle of the night. It won't be good for your stomach," Reuben reminded her.
"Reuben, why don't you follow me wherever I go from now on. I realize that you are awesome," Eli said, touched by his kindness.
Reuben fell silent.
Eli laughed and said, "I'm just joking. Your future wife will be jealous."
She then continued to devour her food. After taking two mouthfuls, she started probing, "Do you have a girlfriend now?"
"What do you think?" Reuben asked her in return.
Eli gave it a thought. She had never seen him close to any girls, nor had she seen him chatting with them on the phone. "What type of girls do you like then?"
"I don't want to find a girlfriend for the time being. You don't have to worry about it," Reuben stopped her.
"If I'm still alive when you get married, I'll find a way to give you a house. This is my gift for you as your good friend," Eli promised.
Reuben remained silent. He received a phone call as soon as they finished their meal and said to Eli, "Mr. Yaleman is on his way back now. He will reach home in another half hour."
"Okay, you should go back to your work then. Rest early," Eli said with concern.
Reuben got up and went off to do his work.
Eli still couldn't fall asleep after having a bite. Since Sean was on his way back, she decided to watch the television and wait up for him.
She walked towards the door when she heard a car approaching. Sean got out of the car with a solemn look on his face.
Eli had a feeling that something bad had just happened. She went up to him and asked, "Would you like to have supper?"
Sean shook his head, held her hand, and said, "Don't stand by the door, it's chilly. Let's go back to the room first."
"Okay," Eli followed Sean back to the room.
He went into the bathroom without muttering a word.
He did not tell her anything, and she did not ask him either. After all, she would not be able to solve his problems even if she asked.
Sean came out of the bathroom and put on pajamas with pastel colors.
Eli smiled faintly and took off her jacket as well. Then, she lay down and closed her eyes.
There was sadness flowing in his eyes when he saw her subservient ways. He lay down beside her and put his hand on her waist. Then he said in a solemn voice, "Brock may have been murdered."
Eli turned to look at him. "Who did it?"
"I don't know, but I had to keep this incident a secret. His family and his men all thought that he died of a heart attack," Sean replied in a deep voice.
"If this matter goes into the open eventually, will they suspect you since you are the one keeping this incident a secret?" Eli asked worriedly.
"That's the only thing I could do for the time being. Otherwise, they would definitely think that it was me if he had died an unnatural death. I'm curious about the murderer. How did that person even enter Brock's villa without being caught?"
Turning her body, Eli looked at Sean and said with a sigh, "Human life is truly fragile. He was still alive and kicking a moment ago, but he lost his breath in an instant. Soon, he will be buried and turned into dust. All the fame and wealth that he had accumulated are all going to waste now."
"I finally understood why Jasper was willing to give up everything in the military back then. He has gotten everything back now. I'm actually very envious of him."
Eli lowered her eyes. She and Sean could have lived a happy life together. However, accidents happened before their happiness could come. Perhaps, that was fate.
"Sean, I will still remember you even if I die. If there is still love in our hearts, even if we can't be together, you will still feel the warmth, right?" Eli said thoughtfully.
Sean could sense her uneasiness and he asked anxiously, "What are you planning on doing?"
