Chapter 854 Whether I Get Married Or Not, It's Not For You To Decide
She was worried that Sean was going to lure her back into falling for him once more. Then, he would abandon her again, and make her life so miserable that she would wish that she was dead.
Sean was the type to hold grudges, so he would definitely do that.
She was absolutely terrified.
She was, after all, just a self-centered human being, afraid of being destroyed by such cataclysmic pain. Human nature had always been selfish, yes?
She could lose her money, her body, or her life, but she could not lose her heart.
She kept silent as the car stopped outside the entrance of the Civil Administration Bureau. All of a sudden, Sean's cell phone rang. He picked up, glancing at the caller ID. It was Hodge.
"Mr. Yaleman, you can't marry Eli," Hodge said, his voice filled with anxiety.
"Why can't I marry her? Who gave you the right to decide whether I could marry her or not?" Sean replied coldly.
"If you marry her, you can't go back to A Country anymore. She's bad luck! You lost everything because of her. She even married someone else in a blink of an eye. You can't marry her," Hodge advised.
Sean stared far off into the distance and said, "Return to A Country? I know what I am doing, and I also know what I need to do. That is all."
Eli could vaguely make out the voice on the other end of the line.
She shuddered when Sean said that he knew what he was doing, and also what he needed to do.
No way! He really was going to make her life a living hell.
As long as her heart was her own, as long as she always found a way to achieve happiness, her life would never be a living hell.
Someone opened the car door, and Eli got out of the car. In front of her stood the Civil Administration Bureau.
Sean walked up to her and said, "Let's go in."
Eli thought that Hodge's men would stop them from entering.
However, no one came. They entered the Civil Administration Bureau. but no one came to stop them.
The Chief of the Civil Administration Bureau received them personally. First, he led her to the premarital test screening room.
She hesitated, still in disbelief that she could get married so easily. It felt like she was in the calm before the storm.
Sean had already finished his screening by the time she left the premarital test room. Nothing out of the ordinary had happened so far.
The Civil Administration Bureau staff might have been alerted in advance, so they averted their gaze and treated her respectfully when they saw her. They did not dare look at her stump, let alone talk about it.
They proceeded to have their photo taken after the screenings.
"Could the two of you move a bit closer to each other? Just a bit closer. Could the bride please smile?" The photographer said.
Eli could not bring herself to smile, nor move closer to him. She frowned as she looked at the camera nervously. There was no hint of joy on her face at all.
The photographer took a few photos, but he was unsatisfied with the results. He reminded her, "Miss, please remember to smile, this photo will be added to the archives for the rest of your life."
Sean shot a glance at Eli and saw that her brows were still knitted together.
He put his hand around her waist and gave it a little tickle.
Eli was a naturally ticklish person, so she squirmed away from his hand. This made her inch closer to Sean without realizing it. The photographer shot a few photos as her lips cracked open in a little smile.
Sean, seeing that the photographer was examining the photos, then let go of Eli.
Eli didn't have a clue why he had tickled her out of the blue. Who on earth would tickle people while taking their pre-wedding photos?
Glaring at Sean, she tried to tickle him back.
He did not dodge and let her tickle him, not moving a muscle.
She stared at him, perplexed. He didn't seem ticklish now. Wasn't he a ticklish person back then?
No matter how she tickled him, he did not budge an inch, so she gave up.
"Stay here," Sean said. Then, he stood up and approached the photographer.
The photographer was uploading the photos to the computer.
Sean studied their wedding photos on the computer screen. Eli was quite pretty when she smiled. He chose the photo he liked the most and said, "Send a copy of the rest of the photos to me."
"Sure," the photographer replied.
They proceeded to prepare the marriage certificate after taking the photos.
Eli stared hopefully towards the door, but there was no sight of anyone.
Sean sat in the VIP lounge, scrolling through his mobile phone at the news. Even sitting down, his aura was just as formidable, an innate air of nobility emanating from his very presence.
Eli walked up to Sean and said, "Well, I've been here with Haward before. Won't people say that I'm committing bigamy?"
Sean felt extremely uneasy when he heard Haward's name. He looked up at her and said, "Eli Wayne no longer exists. There is no such person in the world anymore. You are Cassie Wayne, 28 years old, and this is your first marriage."
"'Cassie'? Which airheaded parents would give their daughter such an insignificant and ugly name?" Plopping down next to Sean, Eli couldn't help but complain, "I still think that Eli is a very good name."
Sean chuckled. Listening to her unceasing chatter, the discomfort in his heart was instantly swept away and replaced with amusement.
He liked her endless chatter because he felt that it enriched his life. "It's just a name. Whether it is Eli or Cassie, they are both still you."
"I don't think that it's grand at all. What is your name now? Alastair? "Alastair and Cassie". Doesn't sound impressive at all. Don't you think that our names feel rather insignificant?" Eli complained.
"You could come up with your own nickname then. I'll call you by your nickname instead," Sean said.
"I think that Eli is a good enough name already. Why don't I call myself Gillian Wayne?" Eli pondered.
Sean's heart trembled, but as long as she still belonged to him, she could call herself Gillian, he couldn't care less. Just as he was about to agree to it, he heard Eli blurt out, "Well, that sounds like the name of someone who picks up garbage for a living."
Sean fell silent.
"Do you think that I'm garbage?" He said sharply.
"I meant 'Gillian', doesn't that sound like a street sweeper's name?" Eli asked in reply.
Sean realized that he was overthinking it. Eli's words about the name 'Gillian' were just a throwaway remark, without any deeper meaning behind it.
"How about Shanie Wayne?" asked Eli, pondering again.
Sean stared fixedly at her.
Eli shuddered when she realized the name sounded like some kind of prostitute, and said, "No, that's not good."
"Or Nancy Wayne," Alastair interrupted.
Eli felt that the name 'Nancy' sounded refreshing and erudite. Hence, she said, "Say, do you think that it's too late for me to get married with the new name?"
"It's too late. The status of your ID card was updated in the global computer system after you jumped off the building. Not just in the whole country, but in the entire world. It wasn't a fake ID card, so it had all the same functions as a real ID card," Sean explained.
Eli paused for a while and it suddenly hit her why Stella hadn't come to save her after such a long time.
"Did you announce my death to the world when I jumped off the building?" Eli asked.
"Yes, I had even arranged for another corpse to take your place. Stella collected your body and buried it side-by-side with your parents. As for Haward, he too believed that you were dead. Therefore, there is no Eli Wayne in this world anymore. Your ID card has you registered as 'Deceased'," Sean explained.
Eli stared steadily at Sean.
So, Haward thought that she was dead. Stella also thought that she was dead. Then who was the person who asked her to wait in the hospital that day?
Why did that person ask her to wait? And what did he want her to wait for?
"What's wrong? What are you thinking about?" Sean could clearly see that Eli was in a daze.
