Chapter 836 Whatever, As Long As I Don't Owe You

Eli walked in absent-mindedly and looked at Sean, who was sitting in his chair.
After three years, he had gone from having nothing to being on top of his game again.
His strategies were stronger than before when he had been President. With the blink of an eye, he could destroy a person's life.
In the past, no matter how evil Sean had been, Eli wasn't afraid. But, in front of Alastair, her hair stood on end.
His methods, abilities, power, and decisiveness made others shudder.
Eli took a deep breath and said, "They said you caught Haward."
The corners of Sean's mouth curled up, and there was no warmth in his eyes. With ridicule, he said, "Correction, it was the police who caught Haward, not me. Your husband has done many bad things. As his wife, shouldn't you know? He deserves it."
"He didn't do any of those things," Eli's eyes were bloodshot.
"Trading firearms and dealing drugs are both very serious crimes. Yet you're saying that isn't him? Larry confessed everything. The men around him corroborated the story as well."
"Those were all Larry's doing. It has nothing to do with him. Haward cut him off a long time ago. You can ask him about it," Eli was a little nervous.
"What about before he cut Larry off then? Do you think that Haward wasn't involved? Do you really think that his hands are clean?" Sean asked calmly.
"Yes I do. I believe in him. He left because he couldn't stand what Larry was doing," Eli said firmly, looking at Sean's frigid face as her eyes started welling up with tears.
"Really? You shouldn't tell me these things. Go tell his lawyer. It depends on the lawyer's ability whether he wins the lawsuit."
"You know he can't win. They are all framing Haward. Haward fell out with them three years ago. Sean, let Haward go," Eli pleaded.
"Why are you so sure that I am the one setting him up, and that he isn't getting what he deserves? You should be asking me to save him, not let him go."
"Back then, I asked him to save you, and he agreed without hesitation. It was because of that that he and Larry had a fallout. He had done so much for you. Sean, you can do whatever you want to anyone you please, but not him," Eli said emotionally as tears started flowing down her face.
She had so many burdens. She knew too much, and she owed him too much.
"Did I need him to save me? You just had to follow what Stella said and go look for my men. It was meant to be a deception anyway. I didn't need your or his self-righteousness. Or, perhaps he saved me in the hopes that I would overlook the fact that he took my woman away from me," Sean sneered as his words grew more sarcastic.
Eli understood that Sean was cold and ruthless now. He was hostile and had set out to take revenge.
"If you want to deal with me, just come at me. It's my fault. I was the one who betrayed you. You don't have to take it out on an innocent man," Eli said angrily.
"Innocent? Hah! How are you so sure that I'm not doing all this to him just to get to you? You broke your promise and wh*red around. Oh no, what I meant to say was you fell in love with Haward. I want to take away the person you love the most. I want to see you suffer. I'm curious to see if you'll just go find another lover when he's gone," Sean laughed insidiously as he locked his gaze firmly onto Eli.
Eli clenched her fists, pursed her lips, and took a deep breath. "You asked someone to lead me here on purpose. Tell me, what do you want me to do? Be your woman?"
"With your ugly looks, do you think you deserve to be my woman? I can find a woman a hundred times prettier than you."
"What do you want?" Eli asked directly.
"Return my child to me. A woman like you isn't qualified to be his mother," Sean said coldly.
Eli looked at him firmly. Her gaze was bitter.
Perhaps it would be better this way. Their son would be safer with Sean after all.
She wiped her tears away and replied simply, "Okay."
"I don't want him to remember a mother like you," Sean said indifferently.
Eli sniffed, "Okay, I won't appear in front of him again, not for the rest of my life."
Sean's gaze turned frigid. "You're heartless, aren't you? Our son has been with you for eight years. Yet, you're willing to give him up for Haward."
Eli lowered her eyes.
She was sent to D Country by Sean five years ago. All his men treated her very badly because he had lost his position. They said all kinds of harsh things and ridiculed her. They didn't even let her eat. They would starve her for a week. They tortured her horribly as long as she didn't die.
She didn't care. She waited for him patiently. As long as he was alive, she would be strong enough to survive.
A year later, a group of people suddenly appeared and snatched her son away. They threatened her to leave Sean. Otherwise, her son would die, and so would Sean.
Ever since then, she had never seen her son again. The eight-year-old child by her side was no longer her beloved son.
Her life had been torturous after her son was taken away. Haward came to negotiate with those men. He would take her away from that place, but on the condition that she had to marry him.
She did not want to marry him. She would rather be tortured, killed, or go crazy before she would betray Sean.
If Sean were to find out that she had married someone else when he was released, he would be sad. She didn't want him to be sad. But, with Sean and their son's lives at stake, she had no choice but to marry Haward.
Fortunately, Haward treated her very well and gave her enough freedom. They slept separately in different beds in the four years they had been married.
Haward took very good care of her, just like a brother to a sister. If she ran into any difficulties, Haward would help her as quickly as he could. He never cared about getting anything in return. He just didn't want her to suffer.
Three years ago, she found out that Sean was getting released. She was so happy that she asked Haward for help as soon as she went back. Haward agreed immediately. As soon as Sean was released, that group of people came looking for her again.
They were using her son's life as a threat to prevent her from meeting Sean or telling the truth. Amongst the men, she recognized that one of them was from the Invisibles. His name was Hodge Turner, otherwise known as Instructor Turner.
These people were all Sean's men. They were his trusted confidantes. They wanted to prevent her from getting together with Sean. They knew everything that went on between Sean and her.
She didn't dare to do anything risky.
When Sean came to see her, she was so afraid that those people would find out, so she fled home. Later on, she found out that Larry had rushed to capture Sean. Luckily, Sean was rescued.
She knew that Sean would definitely misunderstand her, but she couldn't explain.
Now that he wanted their son, those people would probably return the child to his side. With Sean as his father protecting him, she would feel more at ease.
"If you think that I'm heartless, then so be it. Let Haward go," Eli said flatly.
The corners of Sean's mouth curled up. "I was just joking with you. I don't need you to give our child back, I can take him back myself."
Eli was taken aback. "What do you mean by that?"
