Chapter 968 He Is Worried For You
A wave rippled across Joseph's eyes, and the expression on his face shifted.
"Jealous?" He muttered and frowned, as if he couldn't believe her words.
Still with her head on the ground, Lina continued to say, "You're such a handsome and successful man; every girl in M Country desires you. I'm sure Miss Martell will realize it soon enough."
"Then, between me and the president of A Country, Bellamy, who is more successful? Who is more handsome? If you answer correctly, you'll be awarded handsomely before you leave. If you don't, I'll use your ashes as fertilizer," he said coldly.
She gulped a mouthful of saliva. Licking her lips, she proceeded to answer nervously, "In terms of looks, you're on par with the President. Both of you are good looking at first glance. However, you're much younger than the president. When the President was your age, he was nothing! Moreover, he didn't even achieve half of what you did. Thus, in my opinion, you're far more successful than him."
His eyes darkened as he considered her words, "You do have a sweet mouth. It's a pity that you bullied her today, so I won't be able to keep you here."
"I just wanted the both of you to end up together. Please trust me," she pleaded again.
"Yes, you should stay true to that. That way, the future ahead will be bright for you. If what you said here was a lie, then not only will I annihilate you, I'll make sure your family ceases to exist. Yadriel, give her 2 million dollars and send her off," Joseph ordered.
"Thank you, sir. May you and Miss Martell be together for a long time." Lina got up and left with Yadriel.
His eyes then shifted towards Sandy who was still kneeling on the ground, "You know what you should do in the future, right?"
She continued to keep her head on the floor as she spoke, "I will try my best to serve Miss Martell. I won't let anyone hurt her."
"That's good. Now go," he said with a deep voice and stood up.
"Sir, you're bleeding pretty badly on your back. The doctor is waiting to see you," one of Joseph's other subordinates, Joshua, reminded worriedly.
"I won't die. Get her to apply the ointment for me," he instructed.
"Miss Martell?" Joshua asked to confirm.
Without answering him, Joseph just marched out.
His men were even more puzzled. Waverly couldn't even see, so how was she going to apply the ointment?
However, since his mood hadn't been the best recently, no one dared to refute him. Joshua headed straight to her room.
Waverly was just done with her shower and Hayley was helping her onto the chair.
Joshua walked over to her and asked, "Miss Martell, can you see now?"
"You guys put a blindfold on me immediately after treating me. How am I supposed to know whether or not I can see? It's better to ask a doctor about this. He'll know better than me," she said in a calm tone.
"Why don't you try to apply the medicine first and see if your vision is back? If you still can't see, we can try a new medication," he urged.
She frowned and looked in his direction, "What's wrong with you today? Your tone sounds different."
"Mr. Mccarthy drove Lina away today," he explained.
The corners of her mouth lifted, "Because she told me the thing about Sandy?"
"Because she bullied you. He said that you're his woman and no one can bully you," Joshua answered.
Her face turned pale.
There was no way that she was Joseph's woman. There was no way she would even consider being his. "Then I guess your master must be blinder than I am, or is he just saying this to impress me?"
"You call him heartless and cold-blooded, yet I think you're even more cruel than he is. Mr. Mccarthy wants you to help him apply his ointment, but since you can't see, try the medication and see if you have regained your sight." Joshua was starting to get angry.
Sensing that he was getting angry, Waverly refused to tend to his anger.
Hayley, on the other hand, was riled up by his words. She spat at him furiously, "You're the one who's heartless. You're the one who's cold-blooded. My mistress is the kindest person on earth!"
"Hayley," Waverly shouted at her, "It doesn't matter. I don't care what he thinks."
Hayley's face turned red again.
She wasn't aware of it before, but now that she had spent a lot of time with Waverly, she knew what she had to suffer through. After all this time, it finally dawned on her how much Waverly had been wronged.
"They are blinded," Hayley said, feeling dissatisfied.
Waverly smiled and said softly, "When I was a child, I didn't like my grandfather very much. I felt that he was biased, and that he was the worst person in the world."
"One time, my aunt scored a very high grade in her essay. Grandpa was elated and even read it out to all of us."
"In her essay, she wrote 'The person I like the most is my father. In my eyes, my father is an existence more honorable than God. He is kind, empathetic, helpful...' and so on. She used so many positive words to describe him."
"That was when it struck me. I realized that everyone was different. Just because you think that someone is good in your eyes, it doesn't mean that they're good in the eyes of others. That's because they feel a different sort of way than you do."
"So don't be angry. You think that I'm good because I treat you nicely. He thinks I'm nasty because I've never been nice to him. That's a fact."
"Then why are you so cold to Mr. Mccarthy when he treats you so well?" Joshua asked in confusion.
"Treats me well?" Waverly's voice turned sharp, "He framed me and made me a wh*re. This reputation will be associated with my name for thousands of years; it's not something I can just erase. He even separated me from the man I loved. He made it so that we would never be together. He took away my freedom without my consent and even forced me to...."
She didn't go on. She turned her face in the opposite direction. Her chest rose and fell heavily with each breath. Realizing how mad she was, she tried to calm herself down.
She knew that there was no point in throwing a tantrum at a stranger. She was merely just ranting and taking her anger out on someone else.
She didn't care what these people thought of her.
"You should forgive my master. He has done so much for you. He..."
"Joshua, you're saying too much. Don't you want your tongue?" Joseph suddenly appeared out of nowhere and cut him off coldly.
Waverly turned around. She didn't know how much he had heard, but it didn't matter. He should know what she wanted to say.
"Take a look at her eyes," Joseph ordered.
The doctor approached her.
Hayley helped Waverly onto the chair. She could feel that someone removed the bandages and cotton around her eyes.
"Try to open your eyes slowly," urged the doctor.
Waverly's eyes flickered open slowly. It was still very dark, but she could see the face of the person in front of her. Out of the corner of her eyes, she could see a candle dancing in the darkness.
"Is it evening now?" She asked.
Joseph frowned, "You still can't see?"
She looked at him and said, "Didn't you light the candles?"
"Mr. Mccarthy was afraid that you'd been in the dark for too long, so bright lights would hurt your eyes..."
"Shut up," Joseph interrupted Joshua and put his hand on the back of her chair. "Don't you think this type of lighting is very romantic?"
