Chapter 891 Dead

Joseph fell silent for a long time. "Waverly, if it were five years ago, I would have wanted you even if you weren't a virgin. However, the situation of the Mccarthys is very tense now, and there can't be the slightest scandal. Otherwise, all our efforts will go down the drain."
Waverly sat back on the swing calmly, unhurried. "When we grew up, all the adults complimented you for being brilliant, but I was not convinced. I'd always tried to outscore you on tests. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get any compliments from the adults. I don't understand. I am obviously better than you, but why was everyone so generous with complimenting you, but stingy with mine? Even my mother never gave me one. Later, I found out the reason. They said that you were particularly street-smart."
"To me, you are smart, just too persistent for your own good. If you had been willing to show a little humility, Grandpa would have loved you and wouldn't have let you fend for yourself all these while. "
"Humility? Isn't that what I'm doing now? But what a shame, because I still don't understand reality. Joseph, do you know why I didn't accept you back then?" Waverly asked gently.
"You had your considerations. You wanted to leave M Country for a change and get rid of the past. But if you had stayed with me, I could have helped you get rid of your past. As for Lenold, I could have knocked him into the dust if I wanted to. A word from you was all I was waiting for."
Waverly laughed again. For her, the memories from five years ago were distant. Her life had been replaced by Bellamy.
"I didn't leave because I wanted to get rid of the past. I'm not afraid of the past, so why would I want to get rid of it? I didn't accept you because what I saw in you was ambition. You had ambitions for me, for career, and power. But your enthusiasm for me was no match for your ambition for power. I'm afraid you'll abandon me in exchange for power."
Joseph fell silent for three seconds. "So I was right. You've always been smarter than me. If there's nothing else, I'll hang up now."
Waverly's eyes darkened. She had wanted to sacrifice herself to bring down the Mccarthys. As long as the Mccarthys did not ascend to the throne, there would still be room for a comeback. "Joseph, I wish for you to ascend the throne soon. And, I hope that you will not be Sean's puppet. Otherwise, I will look down on you. But perhaps, I have never once held you in any esteem."
After saying that, Waverly hung up the phone and put it away. As she swung lightly, her eyes gradually glazed over. This was just the beginning.
At the same time, Bellamy came out to look for Waverly. When he saw her pensive expression, his eyes flowed with a strange sentiment. He walked towards her with his usual smile. "Dinner's ready."
Nodding, Waverly smiled slightly and got off the swing. "It's been a long time since I've had Mom's cooking. I miss it."
Bellamy paused. "Then I'll learn all of Mom's cooking. Whenever you want to eat, I'll make it for you."
Waverly paused as well.
They were getting divorced and they would never see each other again, least of all having the chance to taste the dishes he made.
This topic was a bit maudlin, and she didn't want to go on any further. "I see three puppies here. I like the white one, the chubby one. Could you please tell Stella before we leave that I'd like to take it with me?"
"Alright. Jasper asked me if I wanted a dog earlier," Bellamy said and went inside with her.
There were a lot of people eating together, including Anthea's and Elvis' family. However, Stella didn't come downstairs because she was resting. Hence, they were accompanied by Jasper instead.
No one said a word about her video. They were very respectful to her and even came over to give her a toast.
Waverly was a lightweight, and she used to drink only a little. But now, as soon as someone came to drink with her, she would down it all.
It might be her last chance seeing these people again. However, they were so sweet and sincere. She wanted to imprint the day's memory into her mind.
"Mrs. President, I raise my toast to you. I wish you a happy, peaceful, and prosperous year ahead," Elvis said, raising his glass.
Although Waverly was almost drunk, it was clear to her that she would not be happy next year. With a smile, she lifted her glass and was about to drink it all in one go.
Just then, Bellamy snatched the glass from Waverly's hand. "You should drink less."
"Let me drink! It's a wonderful blessing! I want to be happy every day next year!" Waverly's tongue was in a knot and her voice uncontrollably loud.
"You can only take a sip, not all of it," Bellamy said with a frown. After that, he looked at the others and commanded, "From now on, no one is allowed to toast with her."
Waverly giggled. She thought that Bellamy was so handsome, cool, gentle, and considerate. Then she gulped all the wine in her glass.
She poured herself another big glass of wine and stood up, wobbling. "Here's my toast to everyone! To everyone's peace, happiness, and well-being!"
Bellamy stood up as well. He took the wine from her hand again. "I'll toast for you."
The crowd exchanged glances. Everyone felt that this couple was quite a good match, but unfortunately, they were about to go their own ways. At this point, everyone rose to their feet and picked up their glasses of wine, downing them.
"This is the last drink we'll have. Waverly has had a little too much to drink. We'll be heading back now," Bellamy said to Jasper. As Waverly couldn't even stand still, he wrapped his arms around her waist.
Jasper nodded and gave them a deep look. "Why don't you guys just sleep here? It's a long way to go back. We have extra rooms here."
"There's no need for that. We'll eventually leave anyway," Bellamy refused.
Yes, they would have to leave each other eventually. After the divorce, it was impossible for them to be together again.
Her heart was hurting as if a lot of water had accumulated inside. She then peeled Bellamy's hand away, lost her balance, and sat down. "I have to drink. Bellamy, I haven't toasted you yet, eh?"
"There's no need to toast me. Too much drinking and your stomach will be upset," Bellamy said softly.
But, she was already feeling upset now. "Let me toast you. This chance is hard to come by. Just one. Please."
As Bellamy watched her go booze-crazy, a spring-like wave ran through his eyes.
He knew fully well that it would be her first and last toast to him. Hence, he agreed, "Okay."
Waverly flashed a silly smile, looking adorable.
She then poured him a glass of wine. As the alcohol was slowly getting to her, she struggled a bit to hold the wine and some of it spilled.
Waverly couldn't control her hand. She apologized, "Sorry about that."
Bellamy took the bottle from her hand and poured it for her. He said softly, "It's okay."
Waverly felt even more melancholic as she listened to his gentle voice. She raised her glass and said to Bellamy, "Happy New Year. You'll never hear from me again. Waverly is dead."
