Chapter 866 It’s Better To Feel Pain, Than Be Sad
Eli knocked Sean on his head mercilessly and said, "Are you crazy? I still need you to take care of me since I don't have an arm. How do you expect me to take care of you when you have lost an arm too? I will not be able to carry you. If you break your arm, I will break my neck. Let's see who is more ruthless."
"Eli," Sean called her name helplessly.
"Sean, it doesn't do any good to me if you lose an arm. Don't be silly, okay? I'll be sad and unhappy if you broke your arm. Do you want me to be unhappy?" Eli said persuasively.
"I know that you're upset."
"Sean, it'll just take another half a month. We'll be separated after that. Don't think of those unpleasant thoughts. We should do our best to be happy, right?" Eli said with a smile.
Sean nodded and said, "I have asked them to prepare a crab feast for lunch. You can eat two of them."
"Wow, that's great," Eli jumped up for joy. "But I'll have to trouble you to peel them for me. See, you could only peel it for me if you have both your hands. How are you going to do that if you are missing an arm?"
"I understand. Go brush your teeth and wash your face first," Sean took her hand and led her into the bathroom. Then, he squeezed the toothpaste on the toothbrush for her.
"Open your mouth."
Eli laughed. If she was still in her twenties, she would definitely ask Sean to brush her teeth. She would even act like a spoiled child. Now that she was in her thirties, she was embarrassed to ask Sean to brush her teeth.
"I'll do it myself," She took the toothbrush from Sean's hand and brushed her teeth, then rinsed her mouth.
Sean had prepared a wet towel and wiped her face with it.
"I'm not done yet. I usually brush my teeth twice," Eli complained.
"Okay, then I'll wipe your face twice then," Sean said tenderly.
Eli was standing and laughing.
Sean tapped her nose gently and said, "Hurry up and brush your teeth. You can eat the crabs once you are done."
"You promised to let me take a walk around," Eli reminded him.
"I'll walk with you."
"No, there are too many people in the villa. I would like to walk around by myself," Eli insisted.
Sean could no longer argue with her and said helplessly, "Alright."
He wiped Eli's face once she was done brushing her teeth. Then, she went out to take a walk by herself.
Once in a while, she liked to spend her time alone as she could sort her thoughts out.
She walked to the lake and sat down on a chair. All of a sudden, she noticed that she was under the shade of an umbrella.
She thought that it was Sean. When she looked up and saw that it was Reuben, she cracked a smile and said, "Don't you need to stay by Sean's side?"
"It's fine as long as I've made all the arrangements. Although it's already late autumn, it is still pretty sunny, and we will get sunburnt easily. It's good to bring an umbrella along," Reuben reminded her.
"You are so meticulous. The woman who marries you in the future will be very blessed. You are a treasure," Eli said with a smile and took the umbrella from his hand.
Reuben hesitated for a moment and said, "I think that Mr. Yaleman likes you very much. You could sense the love he has for you intensifying in his eyes. It's impossible to deceive anyone."
Eli was shocked. Was Sean's behavior that obvious?
Those people under him would definitely worry and make a fuss about it. Unfortunately, she was not smart enough. She did think of some solutions just now, but many of them were filled with loopholes.
Reuben looked at Eli and said, "Will you stay by his side? I'm sure that you'll eventually fall in love with him. Mr. Yaleman is a very charming man. What's more, you two still have a child."
Eli took a deep breath and asked, "Reuben, you're my good friend, right?"
Reuben was silent. Looking into Eli's eyes, he slowly nodded his head.
"I'll tell you something, but you would have to promise me that you wouldn't tell anyone about it, not a single soul. I feel bad keeping it bottled up," Eli said, clasping Reuben's arm.
"You can tell me. I definitely won't tell anyone else," Reuben promised.
"Sean and I cannot be together," Eli said.
"Why not?"
"Those around him have high ranks and great power. They won't allow me to be with Sean. After all, Sean stepped down from being President because of me. They hate me because they are afraid that I will affect him again.
To tell you the truth, I didn't hate them even if they torture me. On the contrary, I feel a little better whenever they tortured me. All these years, I felt guilty that I have caused Sean to lose everything. This kind of guilt tortures me mentally more than physically, and it also put me on the verge of a breakdown.
The fact is that Sean has been doing absolutely well over the past three years without me around," For the first time, Eli expressed her true feelings.
She seemed to be heartless, but as a human, how could she really be heartless?
Reuben lowered his eyes.
He had looked through Eli's psychological questionnaire. He thought that she was strong, but she actually had nothing else to yearn for in life.
If she was not afraid of death, then what else would she be afraid of? She did not even cry or feel sad when she lost her arm.
"What do you plan to do then?" Reuben asked.
Eli shrugged and said, "I'm a person who doesn't know how to plan, and I can't imagine what the future will be like. I've heard that Hodge and the others are currently on a mission outside. When they come back and see me married to Sean, they will definitely come after me. Let's talk about it then."
Eli tried to stand up as Reuben grabbed hold of her arm and said, "Mr. Yaleman doesn't feel sad because of you, but you're living a miserable life because of him. If you leave him, you can start over again. The world is so big and there are so many beautiful things. There are still many things you haven't seen. I'll take you around the world."
Eli laughed and said, "You just said that Sean likes me. If you take his woman away, he will not let you go. Some things are beautiful when you think about them, but in reality, it is very cruel. I'll go back inside. Maybe I'll only get to enjoy these two days. I'll be finished once Hodge and the others are back."
Reuben frowned and said, "Go ahead then. Feel free to come to me if you have anything troubling you. Maybe I can't help you solve your problem, but I'll certainly be your best listener."
"My heart feels much better now after talking to you. Thank you, Reuben. By the way, don't forget to withdraw your money from Switchland Bank."
"Why did you give me money?" Reuben asked, feeling confused.
"I can't think of anyone else except you," Eli replied with a smile and walked toward the house.
For a moment, Reuben stood there blankly and sighed. With a complicated look in his eyes, he took out his phone and stopped the recording.
He took out another phone, made a call, and played the recording to the other end of the line. The recording started from the part when Eli said that it was impossible for her to be with Sean, until the part where she said that when Hodge would come after her once they were back.
He felt sorry for Eli as he had a hidden agenda.
He hoped that this recording could help Eli overcome her difficulties, and prompt them to relinquish the death order against her.
