Chapter 872 What Is The Purpose Of Living?
"What happened?" Stella asked with vigilance.
"Weldon was murdered last night. Someone saw Natasha running out of his room in a state of panic," Jasper explained.
"What did Natasha say?"
"She's missing now, and no one knows her whereabouts," Jasper replied. "Bellamy called, hoping that you would help the Mccarthy family with the investigation. What do you think?"
"Tell them that I studied psychology. The first thing they need to do now is to find Natasha. I will go over when they find her," Stella said. She looked back and saw Eli standing blankly behind her, deep in thought.
"Eli, let's eat first," Stella said as she grabbed hold of Eli's hand.
"Stella, what if Natasha was really the one who killed Weldon? What will happen then?" Eli was confused,
"The Griswell family is dependent on the Mccarthy family. If Natasha kills Weldon, the two families will definitely become enemies. As the Griswell family has offended the Harington family before, I'm afraid that they will be doomed."
"If the Griswell family is gone, the hatred between Country M and Sean will be surely fade away, right?" Eli asked.
"If the Griswell family is gone, the hatred of the Griswell family toward Sean will disappear. However, that might not be the case for the Harington family. After all, five years ago, Yvonne had publicly declared herself as the victim. She hated Sean and you as much as Natasha hates both of you. Because of your existence, she has lost much more than Natasha did, and..."
Stella paused for a moment.
"And what?" Eli probed.
"Yvonne is much more scheming than Natasha. If the Harington family obtains the upper hand, they will keep Sean's powers in check. If that happens, it'll be impossible for you and Sean to be together," Stella said worriedly.
Eli lowered her head and said, "I no longer bear the hope that I would be with him again. What could we do even if we are together? I just hope that he could live a long and peaceful life."
Stella understood Eli's feelings. At that time, she had also brought many problems to Jasper and she was also unwilling to be together with him. Her only hope was for Jasper to live well.
Both of them had completely different personalities, but why was their fate so similar to each other?
No, they were not so similar. At the very least, she and Jasper were living happily together.
Eli, on the other hand, was all alone.
With a smile etched on her face, Eli took a deep breath and said, "I think it's better this way, Sean is too annoying. He has always controlled me, but I'm free to do anything I want now. There aren't a lot of things that trouble me now, and I could even stay with you guys. I think this is the best home for me. By the way, could you guys find me a job?"
"What kind of job are you looking for?" Jasper asked.
"I want to go back to being an obstetrician, but I haven't held a scalpel for many years. I should probably go through a refresher course in school before working at the hospital again," Eli said with a smile.
"I'll see what I can do. I will register your name at the examination boards and you will need to go through an interview as well. I could help you with the interview but not the examination. After all, it's a matter of life and death if you're going to be performing surgeries in the future. So we can't be sloppy about it."
Eli made an OK gesture and said, "I have an idea. Maybe it would be good for me to teach at a school. The job doesn't require much, and I will feel energetic when I spend time with young people every day. Although the salary is not very high, the work is easy enough. Could you arrange a job in a school for me?"
Stella nodded and said, "There is a Medical University in Southern Bay. I could arrange for you to be a counselor first. You can lead your students. Just two classes a day. You'll have ample time and freedom. Is that alright?"
Tilting her head, she leaned on Stella's shoulder and said, "You're the best. I want to be a man in my next life and take care of you."
"I guess that would be a tragedy since I'll still be around in her next life," Jasper interjected unceremoniously.
Eli looked at Jasper's solemn face. She did not expect him to be the kind of person who would say something like that.
Stella grinned, her heart brimming with sweetness. She and Jasper looked at each other as if they only had each other in their eyes.
Perhaps, this was true love. Even if others may think that his words were cheesy, it still felt sweet.
Jasper smiled when he saw Stella grinning.
Eli smiled too when she saw how happy they were.
This man might be taciturn and unexpressive, but it was good that his smile and thoughtfulness were only reserved for his beloved woman.
They could live their lives in a plain yet peaceful way.
Stella gave Eli a villa in Snowie Town. She would be able to see the boundless sea when she wakes up each morning.
Eli soon started her job as a counselor at the university, where she spent most of her time with young, lively, and carefree students, watching them enjoy the zest of life.
Sean did not contact her, and likewise, she did not dare to contact him either. She was afraid that she might put him in danger otherwise.
Occasionally, she would feel sad sitting alone on the lawn. Her life was going well, but it just felt empty.
"Miss Wayne," Maple, the cleaner of the school, greeted Eli when she saw her.
Eli smiled amiably. She had chatted with Maple before and she had a good impression of her, "Has the renovation at your house been completed?"
Maple sighed, "Not yet. The worker said that he would be coming over to install the furniture but he kept going back on his words. I got angry and I asked him again when he would come. He said within these two days. Two days have passed, and he is still not here."
"Renovation is like that. Some of them have multiple jobs. They will do a bit here and there. Take your time, it'll get better," Eli comforted her.
"Oh yes, Miss Wayne, I have a friend whose son is a doctor. He is 35 this year. He was divorced because his wife had an affair. They have a daughter who lives with his ex-wife. Would you like to get to know him?" Maple asked.
Eli laughed and shook her head. "I'm already married, but my husband is currently abroad."
"Oh, I see. I'm sorry, Miss Wayne."
"That's okay," Eli had a good impression of Maple.
Maple was already 63, but she was still working even though she had passed her retirement age.
She had asked Maple before why she was tiring herself out.
Maple said that she was doing everything just for her child.
She had a son who studied architecture, and he was now of marriageable age.
She also had a husband who worked on the construction site. He earned 220 dollars a day and worked in different states. Her husband would only come back one month every year.
There was once Eli was in a bad mood and she cried in the washroom. For no reason, she was crying uncontrollably. She happened to bump into Maple who came in to clean the washroom. She asked her, "Maple, what is your purpose in life?"
