Chapter 886 Regain A Lost Heart
She grabbed a book of poetry after going back to the kitchen to bring out the breakfast.
She liked Robert Frost and Emily Dickinson, and she felt that the poems they wrote portrayed a special sense of beauty and vividness.
"Hope is the thing with feathers, that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without the words, and never stops at all,"
"And sweetest in the gale is heard, And sore must be the storm, that could abash the little bird, that kept so many warm."
"I've heard it in the chillest land,"
"And on the strangest seas;"
"Yet, never, in extremity, It asked a crumb of me."
Emily had just gotten married at that time and her husband had gone to war. They could not meet each other, nor they did not have cell phones. The letters they sent took ages to arrive.
She waited for days, weeks, months, and finally, the devastating news came. Her husband had died in the war.
Emily must have been extremely miserable. Compared to her, Waverly was much more fortunate. At the very least, Bellamy was still alive. She could still see him on the TV even if they had to be strangers for the rest of their lives.
Meanwhile, Bellamy had taken a shower and came downstairs. He had on a camel-colored trench coat with the customary thermal undergarment, a shirt, and a suit, "Has Marie made dinner yet? I thought I'd take you out to eat."
Waverly smiled faintly, "If we go out to eat and get caught on camera, there will probably be another rumor. That wouldn't be pleasant."
"We'll go to my Mom's after breakfast. Jasper told us to head back early," Bellamy said, sitting down for breakfast.
"Let's do some shopping before we go. Stella just had a little girl. We should get something to the baby," Waverly suggested.
"The last time I went to the hospital, I gave the baby an emerald bracelet. What else do you think we should get her?"
Waverly felt a vague sense of loss. She was unaware of Bellamy's gift of a bracelet to Stella's daughter.
However, they were about to get divorced anyway. There was no need to let her know about Jasper's baby.
She had no right to know either, "Let's buy some fruits then. We'll get some walnuts for Stella, to nourish her body. For Mom's side, it's best to buy something too, after all, it's a filial gift."
"It's probably too late to buy now. It's New Years' Eve, basically, all the stores are closed."
"The last time I went back to M Country, I bought a string of tourmaline with gold. We could give that to Mom," Waverly said softly.
Bellamy's eyes flickered, but it quickly merged into his dark pupils, "You are so considerate. Thank you."
"I got you a set of thermal undergarments, too. It's great against the cold. It is said to have added magnetism in it, which could speed up blood circulation. It's good for the body. I'll give it to you tomorrow as a New Year's gift," Waverly said with a smile.
"Sounds good. Did you buy one for yourself?" Bellamy asked.
"There weren't many released this time around because it is still under clinical trial, they only had a total of nine pieces. I snagged one. I'll grab another one when they release them again next year."
"Looks like you're treating me like an experiment," Bellamy joked.
"They're not experiments. They've been tested. I heard that it's a hard material to make," Waverly explained earnestly.
"I'm just kidding."
"Okay," Waverly didn't feel like she should explain, as if she cared about him.
Well, she shouldn't.
After dinner, Bellamy ordered his men to get fruit, walnuts, and other supplements.
Waverly hadn't slept all night and she now had a splitting headache, so she leaned against the couch and fell asleep in no time.
Bellamy was browsing his phone. The public was still intentionally targeting him as well as Waverly. They vowed not to stop as the matter involved immoral actions.
As he looked up at Waverly, who was sleeping innocently, waves of pity and heartache flowed in his heart.
He stepped forward and draped a blanket over her body.
Waverly woke up with a startle. She had slept restlessly and she was afraid of delaying Bellamy's trip, "Are we leaving?"
"Not yet. Sleep a little more. I'll call you when it's time to go," Bellamy said softly.
"Okay. I got up too early today and I'm a little sleepy. Remember to call me then," Waverly instructed, and the next second fell asleep again.
Bellamy took a quilt out of the room and covered her with it.
An hour later, his men brought in fruit, walnut, and such. It was just past 9 a.m. and he did not wake her up.
Waverly woke up naturally. Worried that she had overslept, she looked at the time and saw that it was almost 2 p.m. She sat up apologetically and searched around for Bellamy, but she didn't see him.
A strong sense of loss hit her.
He must have gone to Jasper's alone. That was fine. That was totally fine.
She was a little hungry and went to the kitchen. There was still some soup left in the morning. She took it out and put it in the microwave to warm it.
"You're awake," Bellamy said, coming out of his room.
Waverly was startled by Bellamy's voice and she looked back at him in shock.
It turned out he hadn't left…
"Why are you still at home?" Waverly asked offhandedly.
"Where would I be if not at home?" Bellamy replied, looking at the microwave.
"Didn't you say that Jasper told you to go over early?" Waverly's mind was a little confused.
"How am I supposed to go early when you're asleep? What are you warming up?"
Waverly was moved. It turned out that he had deliberately let her sleep in and have ample rest. That was why he hadn't left yet.
How could she not adore Bellamy?
Although he didn't love her, he took care of her. He took care of her so much that without him, she no longer knew how to survive alone.
"I'm heating up the soup. You haven't eaten your lunch yet, right? There is some cheese in the fridge. I'll make a quick lunch. We'll go to Mom's after that, alright?" Waverly said, tears flooding her eyes. She quietly went to the refrigerator and took out the cheese.
Bellamy smiled faintly. The soup inside the microwave was warmed up. He brought it out and put it on the table, "I'll do it myself. You should eat first. It's cold and the soup gets cold fast."
"It's okay. I'll boil the water first. I could eat while the water is boiling. Do you want to eat some together?" Waverly asked.
"Sure. I was afraid that I would wake you up if I started cooking," Bellamy said with a smile as he grabbed the utensils.
Just as she had thought. When she first met Bellamy, he looked reckless and he would often speak out of turn. However, he would still eventually got things done.
Over the past few years, perhaps because of the stress of being President, he had become much calmer. Still, he'd sometimes exude his true nature. She liked that side of him.
But both the steady and the evil Bellamy were attentive. He was very caring and protective.
"You're so nice. I'm really worried about not being able to meet a better man than you in the future. I'll get upset," Waverly said with a smile. In fact, even if she did meet someone better, her heart was already lost and she didn't know when she would ever find it back again...
