Chapter 963 Even If I Was To Die, I'd Do It In Front Of You
Waverly peeled herself off the ground and staggered to her feet. When they were still beating her up, her whole body felt numb. But at that moment, every single part of her body was in pain.
Taking a pill from her bag, she tipped it to Giselle. "Take this. If you don't, Hayley will kill you right away. You won't even live to see tomorrow."
"What's this? Poison?" Giselle refused to take it.
"Take it!" Hayley snatched the pill from Waverly's hand and stuffed it into Giselle's mouth before clamping it shut with her hands.
She tried to spit it out, but Hayley sealed her mouth tightly. Seeing that Hayley was still holding a knife at her neck, the men present didn't dare to behave rashly.
A few seconds later, the pill began to dissolve inside her mouth. Giselle had no choice but to swallow it down.
When Hayley loosened her hands over her mouth, Giselle still spat out a mouthful of saliva. She couldn't spit out much of the pill, so she asked in fear, "What did you feed me?"
"I'm guessing you're familiar with the most powerful biological weapon in A Country, right? That's what that was," Waverly revealed matter-of-factly. Because of the pain she was in, her words were incoherent, but her glare remained as ice-cold as ever.
Hearing this, Giselle's men took a few steps backward.
Waverly smiled. "You don't have to be afraid. I have the antidote with me. The incubation period is 15 days. On the 14th day, you can come to me for it. I hope that no one will tell Joseph about this."
"Are you really going to give me the antidote after 14 days?" Giselle asked urgently.
"If you die, then you won't be of any use anymore. At least while you're alive, I can get something out of you. Now, get out!" Waverly barked at them coldly.
With this, Giselle walked out of the room.
Waverly was in so much pain that she couldn't stand up. All she could afford to do was crash onto the sofa.
Hayley's eyes turned red as her heart ached. "Madam, I'll send you to the hospital right away."
"Thank you," she replied as she slowly sat up.
"I have the video footage. I'll send it to Uncle Thomson after the doctor's checkup. He is a reasonable man, so he'll definitely lend a hand and avenge you," Hayley declared angrily.
"There's no need," Waverly stopped her.
"Why not? The medicine that you gave her couldn't be a real biochemical weapon. The President had retrieved and destroyed it. All that was left behind is the antidote. When she tells this to Joseph, he'll know you were lying, and when Giselle finds out, I'm sure she's going to throw a fit. She's going to send a bigger gang of people to take us down."
"Hence why we can't give the footage to Uncle Thomson. If we don't give it to him, we'll leave her scared in the dark; if we do, he will just give her a light punishment, then she wouldn't be terrified the next time. If he gives a huge punishment, people will condemn him. No matter what happens, it wouldn't be what we want," Waverly analyzed, frowning.
"If that's the case, then let's reveal what Joseph did to you. I'm sure Uncle Thomson will defend you."
"First of all, we don't have any evidence. Plus, this is a scandal within the Mccarthy family. Joseph is currently going to marry Yasmine. Madam Lenny is well-known diplomatically. The Mccarthy family needs this marriage. Therefore, in this case, the best plan would be to send me away with a sum of money," Waverly explained.
If she just left like this, all her efforts to expose Joseph would go to waste.
She would never allow such a thing to happen.
Hayley smashed her lips together as she stifled back a sob. Tears began to roll down her face as she cried out, "But they're too much! Look what they did to you. They were really going to kill you."
Waverly shut her eyes and felt a wave of pain rush all over her body. She couldn't sleep even if she tried.
She had expected this to happen, so she wasn't sad. All she hoped for was that her efforts wouldn't be in vain. After this, she hoped Joseph would leave her alone.
Suddenly, her phone rang.
Seeing that the caller ID belonged to Joseph, she refused to answer it. Setting the phone to silent mode, she pretended that she hadn't heard it.
She didn't care how many times he called her or why he was calling her. Looking out of the window, the dark circles under her eyes sunk even further. Her eyes clamped shut and flew open in a second, and then it dawned on her that she didn't notice anything.
Knowing that something wasn't right, she shut her eyes once again. After opening them again, she realised she still couldn't see.
Waverly flew into a panic.
Had she gone blind?
If she couldn't see anything, how was she supposed to go against Joseph?
Then, she wouldn't be able to see Bellamy again. With trembling hands, she turned around frantically. All that greeted her was darkness. Tears started to drown her face as her eyebrows furrowed in worry.
She didn't want to blame this on God, but at this moment, she had no idea what to do except blame him!
It felt like her existence was a curse.
There were only a handful of days in which she was happy. Clearly, the bad days outweighed the good ones. She struggled to see the light at the end of this dreadful tunnel. It felt like she was always stumbling around, barely clinging to life.
Now, she was going to be blind. She didn't know how much strength she had left.
She thought she was miserable enough before, but little did she know that the harsh, cruel world would let her suffer even more.
Arriving at the hospital's entrance...
"Madam, we're here."
"Hayley." Waverly's voice was hoarse. "Help me up."
"Oh." Hayley held her hand out for her. At first, she thought that she was in too much pain to walk on her own. But after a few steps, Waverly couldn't even see the stairs in front of her and nearly fell. That was when Hayley realized something was completely off.
"Madam, what happened to your eyes?" Hayley questioned in fear.
She still couldn't see anything. The circles under her eyes were deep. "Don't tell Bellamy about any of this matter, including the fact that I can't see."
"I'm afraid I can't do that. I'm not the only spy the President has in M Country. Even if I didn't tell him about what happened to you, he would find out."
Waverly frowned.
She had just pretended to be happy in front of him, but she was now back to square one. Once a lie has been uncovered, it would be tough to gain a person's trust.
"I'm sorry, I was negligent. Let's go back now. If we don't go to the hospital, no one will find out," Waverly interrupted.
"Madam, if you continue like this, you'll be blind permanently. It's not too late to get it treated yet," Hayley persuaded.
After hearing her words, she couldn't help but hesitate.
All of a sudden, the air in the room changed. Hayley could tell that Joseph's men were here.
At the same time, Waverly could also tell that something wasn't right. She frowned and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Madam, Mr. Mccarthy asked us to fetch you back," the man replied coldly.
"I'll go with you," Hayley chimed in protectively as she shielded her with her body.
After a short three seconds, Waverly had made up her mind. "Hayley, be good. Don't make a scene. Don't cry and don't be sad. Send me to their car, then go back home. Don't follow me."
"No, I want to be with you. Even if I was to die, I'd do it in front of you." Hayley clung onto her hand, refusing to let go.
