Chapter 823 Is He Alright? Is He Really Fine?
The Dark Shadows who had been hiding immediately appeared. All 16 of the men who had shown up earlier now had a red laser dot pointed right on their foreheads. One slight move and they would be dead.
Surely enough, they didn't move as they glanced around at each other.
"Stella," Eli's voice could be heard.
Stella looked in the direction of the voice and saw Eli. "Eli, why are you here? Where have you been?"
Eli walked towards Stella. "They're my men. Haward heard that you were here and he found out you bought a flight ticket. So, I sent my men here to wait for you."
"Okay," Stella looked around and said, "They are Eli's men."
The red laser dot on their foreheads disappeared.
Eli smiled. "Are those people protecting you?"
Stella nodded. "Jasper sent them."
"Is he alright? He was at the brink of death when I left, and I found out that Bellamy is not Jasper," Eli asked with concern.
"Yes, he has returned to the military base now. Bellamy has agreed to release Sean, but we need your help."
Eli lowered her eyes, which were filled with sadness. Then, she smiled again and said, "Let's find a place to chat."
"I've booked a flight at 10 p.m. later. I'll change it to tomorrow. Let me give Jasper a call," Stella said and took out her mobile phone.
"Let's get on the car first," Eli took Stella's hand and walked away.
Stella noticed that Eli seemed to have something on her mind, but she trusted that Eli would not hurt her.
She got onto Eli's car. She was about to call Jasper, but she was worried that he might be asleep. Hence, instead of calling, she sent a text message: "Jasper, you don't have to look for Eli anymore. She came to me. I have to talk to her today, so my flight has been changed to tomorrow."
Eli glanced at Stella's mobile phone and slightly raised a smile. "It's great that you two are still together."
Stella changed her flight itinerary and looked at Eli. "Your neighbor said that you got married, to Haward, right?"
Eli nodded and said, "He has been waiting for me for a long time, and he takes good care of me. I'm so old now, no one else wants me except for him."
"What about Sean? Don't you like him?" Stella asked tentatively.
Eli's eyes flickered. She wanted to say something but she stopped on second thought.
Stella held her hand. "Is there something you couldn't tell me?"
"Stella, feelings change. Right now, I like Haward. Sean might not be able to come out for the rest of his life," Eli lowered her head.
Stella frowned slightly. "Are you saying that you used to like Sean, but you didn't think he would ever be released because he was caught? Then, while you were spending time with Haward, you fell for him?"
"Yes," Eli replied, her chest heaving violently. She didn't dare to look at Stella.
"But now, Sean is going to be released. I came here to talk about this with you," Stella said.
Eli did not hide her surprise. Instead, she held Stella's hand. "Is he getting released? Are you serious?"
Stella looked at Eli calmly.
Eli realized that her reaction might have been too emotional. There was a strange look on her face, but she still couldn't hide her joy. She murmured, "I knew that he would not be locked up forever and that he would definitely be released one day."
Without holding back, tears started to fall on the back of Stella's hand.
Stella could tell immediately that Eli was acting weird.
Eli had said earlier that she thought he would never be released. But now, she was saying that she knew he would be. Her words were inconsistent.
Eli had always been a straightforward person. She was not good at disguising her true feelings. She must have something on her mind, that was why her words were so contradictory.
"Bellamy couldn't just let him go so easily because of what he did to Natasha. We need your help," Stella said.
"Yes, of course, I'll help. Tell me, what do I need to do?" Eli asked immediately.
Stella looked at the driver and said, "Let's get off the car and take a walk. I haven't had a good look at the scenery in D Country yet. Why don't you take me on a tour?"
Eli knew that Stella wanted to talk to her alone. She nodded and said, "Okay. Stop the car."
They walked hand in hand to the park nearby.
"Are you sure you don't have any monitoring equipment on you?" Stella asked.
"I don't think so. But maybe someone put one on me, I don't know," Eli said uncertainly.
"Let's just make sure. I'll get someone to examine you," Stella called Elvis.
After a while, a Dark Shadow member came over. With a device, he scanned the two of them from head to toe, and confirmed that they were not bugged.
Stella then said, "We need you to contact the Invisibles and convince them to save Sean. We will start a fire when you guys are rescuing him. Later on, we will announce to the public that Sean died in that fire. In actuality, we will release him and he will live a new life with a new identity."
"Stella," Eli was about to speak but paused. She looked at Stella with concern.
"What's wrong?" Stella asked in confusion.
Eli still didn't say what she wanted to say. Instead, she changed her words and said, "I don't need to contact the Invisibles, I could just get Haward to do it. He is from D Country, so even if someone investigates this matter, they won't be able to track it all the way back to D Country. Is that okay?"
"That sounds like the best plan. But Sean still likes you, meanwhile you're married to Haward. If Haward rescues him, have you thought about how to deal with the relationship between the three of you?"
"I will make it clear to Sean that I am already married. He deserves someone better than me."
"He lost his position as President and got locked up because of you. I'm worried that he won't be able to accept it if he finds out you're married when he comes out," Stella reminded her.
Eli's eyes turned red and glistened. She avoided Stella's gaze. "I don't know what to do either. Anyway, the most important thing now is to save him. We'll talk about the other stuff later."
"Also, as I recall, Sean and Haward don't get along well, right?" Stella didn't know whether this information was true, or if she had imagined it.
"Sean's ex-girlfriend is Larry's sister. She killed herself for Sean, so Larry hates Sean. That was how their hatred began," Eli explained.
"So, are you sure that Haward will be willing to help rescue Sean?" Stella was suspicious.
"He will. Anyway, you guys are the one rescuing Sean, not him. Even after Sean is free, Larry may not necessarily be able to find him. Plus, Sean has a lot of strong connections backing him. Even though he is no longer the President, Larry still won't be able to do anything to him."
"But your marriage to Haward is like a stab in Sean's back."
"I wish it wasn't like this either," Eli said softly.
"What do you mean by that?" Stella sensed the implication behind her words.
