Chapter 876 I Will Leave Final Decision To You
Eli really wanted to know, so she decided to give Stella a call.
"Eli?" Stella sounded tired.
"How are things going there? Did Natasha really kill Weldon?"
"Yes, she admitted to it. Her brother tried to bring her away, but the Griswell family could not take the pressure that the Mccarthy family was asserting, so she came out to beg for forgiveness. She is in prison now. There are still a lot of things that needed to be negotiated and dealt with, and Bellamy has entrusted everything here to me. I may need to stay here for a few more days."
"Remember to take care of yourself. You sound exhausted. Go and get some rest," Eli said and hung up the phone. Then she looked at Sean and said, "Stella told me that Natasha had already admitted to killing Weldon, but they still need to negotiate. What are they going to negotiate?"
Sean looked deeply at Eli. With hesitation in his eyes, he sighed and said, "Weldon had r*ped Natasha, so she killed him with a knife. Natasha is currently three months pregnant."
"If that is the case, Natasha is only acting in self-defense. That is not murder. The child in her belly is the best evidence."
With a smile playing across his lips, Sean said, "The truth is not always important. What really matters are the views of the public. Your case is strong if everyone believes you, and you are doomed to fail when nobody does."
"What does that mean?" Eli did not understand what he was saying. She felt that Sean's way of speaking was too deep and unpredictable at times. She had a vague notion of what he meant, but she wasn't sure, so it was better to ask directly.
"My success or failure will depend on Stella. Does she prefer me or Bellamy?"
"Do you still want to be the President?" Eli asked uneasily. Once Sean began a war with Bellamy, she could not imagine how difficult and dangerous their lives ahead would be.
"Do you want me to be the President?" Sean asked her in reply.
"Bellamy has managed the country very well, especially the Southern Bay region. This country is really a pure land. It is a place where people could live and work in peace. People will panic if war takes place. There might also be foreign interference. I don't care who becomes the President. I only hope that I get to live in peace with you," Eli said.
Sean's phone rang. He smiled when he saw that it was Stella. "Stella, you are smart indeed."
"Are you saying that I'm dumb?" Eli was confused.
Sean held Eli in his arms and said, "I like that you're dumb. I'll feel tired if you're too smart. I like you just the way you are now."
He answered the phone in front of Eli.
"Was it you?" Stella was direct.
"What are you referring to?" Sean asked.
"Natasha said that she was r*ped by Weldon, and she killed him in an accident.
I have simulated a lot of scenarios, and I have evaluated Natasha's personality.
She was either very defensive at the beginning, or she compromised in the end. She is not such an easygoing person.
However, Weldon's pants were still on when he died. The fruit knife was not from his room, and one of his advisors had gone missing."
"What are you trying to imply?" Sean asked directly.
"You're the mastermind behind the entire thing, am I right?" Stella probed.
"Something like that," Sean did not deny the accusation. "I merely took advantage of their selfish motives. As you would expect, I wanted the Griswell family and the Mccarthy family to become enemies. This will force Natasha to push the Mccarthy family to the forefront of public opinion and I will become their savior. Within a year, I will support the Mccarthy family to take office."
"Thomson Mccarthy will probably not want to be your puppet. He has a tough personality and a strong sense of justice. He would rather die than yield, and he does things in a straightforward manner. Well, unless you support Joseph Mccarthy. He is extremely thoughtful, shrewd, and he gets things done no matter how difficult it might be. Thanks to many of his behind-the-scene plans, the Mccarthy family has been able to establish their plans over the years. Otherwise, they would have been in deep trouble once the Harington family came into power.
"Your guess is correct. The one I want to support is Joseph. He is a very flexible person and he knows what he should and should not do. He is smart and restrained, someone who is able to achieve great things."
"If he does become your puppet, be careful that he may come back to bite you," Stella reminded him.
"I don't want him to be my puppet. Rather, I want him to back me up, cooperate with me and be a friend to me. Only I could save the Griswell family once they are being forced into dire straits. Only then, the Griswell family will declare that the murder was bogus. When that happens, I could openly return to the country."
"What are your plans when you come back to the country then? Are you planning to become the President again?"
Sean fell silent.
Stella closed her eyes and sighed lightly, "I hope that you will let Bellamy go, just like how he had let you go in the past."
"I will. I have promised you that I will agree to a request of yours unconditionally," Sean said.
"I'm hanging up now."
"There is one thing, though. I hope that you could help me force the Mccarthy family into dire straits first. Your testimony is very important. I will make the Mccarthy family the next President, and I will also let the Griswell family go," Sean added.
"What about the Harington family?" Stella asked.
"I would let them go as long as they promised not to do anything to hurt me or Eli. However, if they insist on going against me, then you can't blame me, can you?" Sean countered lightly.
Stella remained silent.
Sean knew that she needed time to think about everything. She was a very rational person, and truth be told, her rationality can be infuriating at times.
"I want to be with Eli and stay with her forever, rather than sneaking back to see her like what I'm doing now," Sean said, his voice laced with emotion.
"Are you using Eli to try to persuade me?" Stella asked calmly.
Sean chuckled and said, "I know that Bellamy is Jasper's brother. If you help me, you might expose yourself to hidden risks. You are worried and contemplating because you are afraid that you will make the wrong decision. You also know that your testimony will affect the result, and the result depends very much on you. If I want to make use of Eli to persuade you, I would have asked her to beg you when she called you just now. But Eli and I don't want to burden you. I am just letting you know the trump cards that I have with me now. You can do whatever your heart tells you to do."
"I'm a bit confused now." Stella did not give him a direct reply.
"One is your family member, and the other is your friend. This would be a dilemma for anyone. Just do what your heart tells you. Eli and I won't blame you. On the contrary, thank you for taking good care of Eli. I noticed that she gained some weight and her depression has also improved. She has a lot of suitors as well," Sean said with a smile.
"Okay, I'll think about it," Stella then hung up the phone.
She thought about a lot of things, from love, affection, friendship, politics, life, to the future. Her mind was buzzing, but she did not want to tell Jasper about it.
Jasper would also fall into the same dilemma as her. It would be better for her to solve this alone rather than have two people worry about it, as this was a quandary that could not be solved.
She went to the garden alone to take a stroll. When she walked to the hillside located in the backyard, someone suddenly covered her nose and she began to feel her consciousness wavering...
