Chapter 973 Let Me Do It, I'm Stronger

"No, Madam. I'm still underage and I don't have a driver's license," Hayley said apologetically.
"Give me some time then," Waverly whispered softly.
The longer Hayley watched Waverly's behavior, the more worried she became. Thus, she asked, "Did something happen to the President?"
Waverly shook her head, "Hayley, I don't want to talk about it first. Just let me rest for a while."
Hayley remained at her seat, looking at Waverly blankly.
Waverly started breathing lightly, as one does while asleep.
Truthfully, she wasn't actually asleep. She just wanted to leave her mind blank so that she could calm down. She kept inhaling and exhaling, alternating between both actions.
"Woof!" The puppy in her arms barked, pulling her back to the present.
Waverly opened her eyes to look at it and she could see its features clearly.
Her eyes had just recovered. She knew it wasn't sensible of her to work herself up this much.
She patted the dog and played a cheerful song. After that, she shifted the gear and continued to drive down the road.
"Madam, are you feeling any better?" Hayley asked cautiously.
"I'll have to say yes. That's because even if I say no, there's nothing I can do about it anyways," Waverly smiled slightly.
After a while, they arrived at the market.
"Hayley, have you ever eaten M Country's pork chops?" Waverly asked eagerly.
Hayley nodded enthusiastically and said, "I've eaten it once during the special training. It didn't taste good to me."
"Bellamy loves it a lot. He says it's a dish that holds a lot of memories for him. I'll make some for you later," Waverly said softly.
"It's too much work, so you don't have to. Madam, you've just recovered from a serious injury."
"I'll teach you the most important steps. In the future, you can make it for Bellamy in my place," Waverly said faintly while picking some cuts which looked good.
"No, you'll make it for the President yourself. I don't know the recipe, neither do I want to know," Hayley's eyes started turning red again.
Waverly smiled at her, "Then, you should learn it and make one for me."
After thinking about it for a moment, Hayley nodded in response.
Besides buying pork chops, Waverly had also bought ingredients like chicken wings, steaks, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, spare ribs and so on.
As she carried all their groceries, Hayley asked in confusion, "Madam, why did you buy so many ingredients? We still have more left at home."
"So that it'll feel more like a home. If guests were to come, we could also treat them to dinner," Waverly replied as she picked out more herbs.
At that moment, her cellphone rang.
Seeing that the number belonged to Thomson, she quickly picked up and greeted the caller, "Uncle Thomson."
"Where are you now? Are you free tomorrow night?" Thomson asked.
"I'm shopping outside right now and I'm free tomorrow night."
"I've just met a friend who you've also met him as a child. His name is Mr. Moore, and he's now the Minister of the Army of Naval Conquests. He has a son named Yazoo Moore. When you guys were young, you used to play together. He has just returned from Y Country and when he heard you were back, he voiced his interest in meeting you himself," Thomson said with a smile.
Yazoo Moore. Waverly had a faint impression of who he was. He was only a few years older than her. It was true that they had met as kids. However, she recalled him being an introvert that had not played with her much. He had migrated to Y Country at a young age, so she did not have much clue of what he looked like.
However, as the Minister of the Army of Naval Conquests, she could use that position to her advantage to deal with Joseph.
"I got it. Thank you, Uncle Thomson."
"Then, you go ahead with your own business. I'll see you around."
"Ah, Uncle Thomson, I'm going to cook pork chops today. I remember that they're your favorite too. I'll bring some over to you when I'm done," Waverly said with a small smile.
"Alright. I haven't eaten them for a long time. I'd like to try your cooking as well."
"It's set then," Waverly answered and hung up on the call.
Hayley said with slight dismay, "So the pork chop was actually for your uncle."
Waverly flashed a look at Hayley. Her original plan had been to cook it for Bellamy, but at the thought of Bellamy getting himself in danger by meeting her, she gave that idea up. Fortunately, upon receiving Thomson's call, she remembered him liking pork chops too.
"It was a coincidence," Waverly said.
After they were done, they put all the groceries into the car and drove home. By the time they returned, it was already three in the afternoon.
Waverly went to wash pork cutlets while explaining each step to Hayley, "The first thing you need to do is clean the cutlets. You have to make sure they're clean. First, wash it with some salt, and remember to rub it into the meat. By doing so, you can kill all the bacteria inside."
"Madam, let me do it. I'm stronger," Hayley insisted, massaging it in as Waverly had instructed.
Meanwhile, Waverly prepared a whole pail of salt water for her.
"The second step is to pour salt water over it and soak it for about an hour," Waverly said.
"Wow, an hour? Do restaurants do that too?" She asked curiously.
Waverly shook her head, "Every restaurant works differently so I'm not too sure how they do it."
"All right, I'll do as you say, Madam. I'm sure it'll be delicious," Hayley was excited.
After that, Waverly moved on to marinating the chicken wings, "Let's have honey roasted chicken wings for dinner then. They're quite delicious."
"Then, what about the pork cutlets? Since it has to soak for about an hour, when can we eat them?" Hayley asked doubtfully.
"There's a secret to cooking those cutlets. We'll need a variety of herbs to place them along with all of the ingredients in a pot, then let it simmer for roughly 3 to 4 hours. When the pork absorbs all the taste from the herbs, only then will it taste good," Waverly explained patiently.
"Huh? Three to four hours? Wouldn't the whole cooking process take around 8 hours?" Hayley whined.
"It'll be delicious, so it's definitely worth the wait."
"I can wait, but I'm afraid your uncle will grow impatient," Hayley reminded her.
"He has dinner pretty late. If he can't have it today, he can heat it up for tomorrow and it'll still be delicious," Waverly replied.
By the time they had finished preparing everything, it was already four in the afternoon. They finally began cooking.
It only took them half an hour for the kitchen to be filled with a rich aroma.
Hayley's attention was fixed on the pot as she complimented the aroma, "It smells so good. I really wish we could have it for dinner."
Waverly opened the pot and mixed the ingredients around.
Hayley swallowed her saliva and said, "When I was at camp, I ate this too. I think they probably burnt it or didn't handle it properly though, so I lost my appetite after just one bite of it."
"Don't rush the process. You have to let it simmer slowly. If you rush the cooking process, not only won't you be able to swallow it down, you won't crave for it the next time either," Waverly said softly.
Hayley felt that Waverly's words were reasonable.
While Waverly cooked the pork cutlets, Hayley tried to prepare the rest of the meal. She made some fish soup and grilled broccoli.
Leaving the pork cutlets to simmer, Waverly went on to prepare her honey roasted chicken wings.
While she was cooking, she heard the sound of a car parking outside. Waverly frowned.
Hayley also heard the same thing. She went out to have a look and came back to notify Waverly, "Joseph is here. How can someone be this annoying? He's like an evil spirit that can't be banished."
"If you continue to speak like that, I'll turn you into an evil spirit for real," threatened Joseph.
"She's just a kid. Don't be so strict with her. How could you argue with a child?" retorted Waverly coldly, looking at Joseph.
Joseph smiled menacingly with a hint of sarcasm, "She's just a child, but what about you? Should I hold a grudge against you?"
"I don't understand what you mean, General Mccarthy," Waverly replied calmly.
"Do you think that everything you've done so far actually makes a difference?" Joseph asked, narrowing his eyes.
"I've done a lot, so what thing exactly are you referring to?" Waverly was particularly calm as she answered his question.
Joseph stared at her with his cold eyes. No matter how frigid she acted, he could still tell how turbulent she was feeling on the inside at that moment. He said, "I heard from Uncle Thomson that you're going on a blind date!"
