Chapter 948 When Was It Ever Blissful?
Waverly watched as Qianna rushed out. Soon, Joseph would definitely look for her for an explanation. However, it didn't seem that Qianna would betray her, thus it didn't matter as long as the goal was achieved. She just hoped that Qianna wouldn't be too dumb.
She went back with Hayley, who looked at Waverly worriedly, "Madam, I heard that the most powerful people in the Mccarthy family are Thomson and Joseph, especially Joseph. His means are extremely vicious. If you offend him now, I'm afraid he won't let you go. After that, you will have a hard time in the Mccarthy family."
Waverly raised the corners of her lips slightly, "I've never had a good life, so it doesn't matter if it's a bit more depressing. Let's go."
"Are we going to your mother's house now? Madam, your clothes are a little too thin. Let's go back and get a thicker jacket first," Hayley suggested.
She indeed wore too little, hence she nodded and went back to put on a winter coat. She asked Hayley to grab the fruits and they went out together.
Melinda did not live with the Mccarthy family, but she was not far away either. She was about a few minutes away from the residence.
Waverly got out of the taxi and knocked on the door.
"Coming." A Housekeeper opened the door.
When she saw Waverly, she was flustered and looked back at Melinda, "Madam, Miss Waverly is back."
Melinda did not come out, but a little boy ran out.
The little boy looked at her, smiled and shouted, "Waverly."
She stared at the little boy in front of her. She had brought a gift for him when she returned home, hence he was quite familiar with her.
It was just that she recalled what Joseph had told her. She was the child of her father and Melinda's maid. The little boy in front of her was born out of in-vitro fertilization. He was Melinda's real child.
Waverly picked up a banana, bent down and gave it to the little boy.
He took it with a smile.
"Danny, come here." Melinda came down from the top floor and shouted.
The little boy ran towards her and said, "Mom, Waverly gave this to me."
"Auntie, take Danny back to the room," Melinda said solemnly.
The housekeeper brought him back to his room.
Melinda looked at Waverly without much emotion, "What are you doing here?"
"Bellamy once wanted to settle down in another country to let me restart my life, but I was unwilling to do so. I was not willing to let go of my family and all my past memories in M Country. I don't want to give up my past twenty years, hence I came to see you," Waverly said calmly.
"Why did you come to me? You had decided to leave with your father. You are no longer a member of the Mccarthy family. Don't forget that your surname is Martell," Melinda said coldly.
"The Mccarthy family is going to go through a drastic change soon. Don't you want another assistant?" Waverly asked.
"The change has nothing to do with me. What belongs to me, will be mine. However, it obviously seems that you can live a good life, yet you still insisted on coming back. What is your purpose?" Melinda said with caution and squinted her eyes with suspicion.
Judging by her reaction, there was no need for any further evidence. Waverly was assured of what Joseph had once said.
Melinda had no feelings for her at all. On the contrary, she had always been very cautious. Melinda even suspected that she came to avenge for her mother's death.
If she had not known the truth, she would still feel sad due to Melinda's attitude.
"What other purpose can I have? I just want to have a home. I've been wandering outside for so many years and I'm very tired. I heard a piece of news that Joseph wants to take over the whole Mccarthy family and be a king himself," Waverly said deliberately.
"He's really ambitious. However, it's not a bad thing for the Mccarthy family if he becomes the king either."
"Oh, it's bad. He said that he was worried that you would do something to Danny. You know how Joseph is;, he never gives away what his next step is. I can't figure him out myself, hence I wanted to seek help from you. However, it seems like you don't welcome me that much, do you? Mother?" Waverly sighed.
"You little wench, do you think I don't know what you are thinking? When you were a child, you didn't even get along with me. Why are you coming to me now?" Melinda was still doubtful.
"Blood is thicker than water. You know my situation in the Mccarthy family. I have no one else to rely on and no one is willing to back me up. The days are getting more and more difficult," Waverly said softly.
"If you are sad, you can leave. Your life would be much better if you don't come back to M Country," Melinda said disdainfully.
"It seems that you don't understand me. Never mind, just have your meal in peace then. I won't bother you," Waverly nodded and walked out of the door.
Hayley looked back. Seeing that Melinda did not stop them, she frowned and said, "Madam, we should not come here in the future. There is no need to come here and face that attitude of hers."
Waverly raised the corner of her lips. "Melinda is very doubtful. If you say more, she will suspect the other side's purpose. We have to stop at the right time."
Hayley did not understand what she meant..
"Only by finding another enemy for the enemy, can we have a chance to win," Waverly said thoughtfully and looked back at Hayley. "Let's have a barbeque at noon. I am craving it."
She smiled. "I want to eat barbeque too. It's the perfect food for winter."
Waverly took the call and found a barbeque restaurant with Hayley. They found a room to have their meal. After Waverly was done with her order, she let Hayley order her portion.
"Madam, I want to stay with you for the rest of my life. Please don't get into any accidents in the future," she sighed.
Waverly smiled, "How can you be with me for a lifetime? When you grow up and meet the man you love, and then bear his child, your heart and center of attention will shift to your own family."
Hayley cupped her face in her hands, "Madam, you are so kind. In the future, you'll definitely meet a man who loves you very much and then live together happily."
Waverly was reminded of Bellamy.
She did not meet a man who loved her very much. Perhaps in this life, she would never meet that person again, but she had a man whom she loved very much. However, it was impossible for them to be together ever again.
Then, there was a loud knock on the door.
Hayley had not even opened the door yet, but someone pushed the door open. Eight expressionless men came in from outside and surrounded the room without a single space to escape.
Hayley stood up with caution and said in a harsh voice, "Who are you?"
Joseph walked in and said coldly, "Throw her out."
Waverly was worried that Hayley would struggle and get injured. She was not Joseph's target after all. "Hayley, wait for me outside."
She was taken out, and the door was closed. Joseph picked up a chair from the corner and sat down opposite Waverly. He then picked up the order sheet and saw what they had ordered. He frowned, "Why is it all vegetables? You don't look like a vegetarian."
He drew a few strokes on the paper and handed it to one of his men, "Add these to the order."
His subordinates respectfully took the order sheet, opened the door, and walked out.
Joseph leaned on the chair lazily and looked at her. "You don't know me well enough, do you?"
She smiled, "Who on earth can understand you? Those who understood you never got to live, anyway. You would never allow that to happen."
The corner of Joseph's lips curled up. "From the moment I caught Lenold, my guess was right. You would incite Qianna to look for me. Guess what happened next?"
