Chapter 933 Say, What Do You Have To Do With Me?

Waverly pressed her lips tightly together, clenched her fists, and glared at him sharply.
Even if she was angry, even if she threw a tantrum, what would it change? What would it achieve for her?
Nothing.
Joseph had always looked at her as if he were watching a circus clown, looking at her making a fool of herself, showing all kinds of weaknesses.
Since that was the case, she had no choice but to fight and walk on.
"You'd better be gentler in the future. If you do it that way all the time, it would hurt forever," Waverly said.
Joseph's eyes seemed to display a flash of pity, but it disappeared so quickly that Waverly didn't notice it at all.
"Got it. You should rest after getting a bite. I have something to tell you while we have dinner," Joseph said calmly as he carried Waverly away.
If she told him to let her go, he definitely wouldn't.
"Joseph, actually, you've served me well. Compared to other men, you're talented and are physically fit." Waverly praised him and smiled lightly, but the smile did not reach her eyes.
"That's very kind of you to say."
"Is this how you conquered Madam Lenny's daughter?" Waverly taunted.
"Didn't Bellamy teach you to not treat others as fools, especially those who are successful? No fool achieves success." Joseph's words carried a hidden meaning behind them as he walked into the room and set her down on the chair.
She understood what he meant. Did he also reach a deal with Madam Lenny?
Joseph handed the documents in his hand to her, "Take a look."
"What's this?" Waverly asked in confusion.
"Didn't you want to work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs? If you were appointed as a diplomatic representative from the start, I'm afraid that it won't be a welcome decision to many. After a year, I will promote you to the position," Joseph said.
Waverly frowned and said doubtfully, "Didn't you turn me down initially?"
"Well, I thought about it later on. You are mine now. I have to give a present to my woman, right? It's just the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, anyway. You could get it with just a word from me," Joseph said with a smirk. He sat down at the table and stared at her with a burning gaze.
Waverly didn't want to be his, but he had gotten her by force.
She hated and loathed the person she had become. She gritted her teeth and let out a derisive laugh, asking, "Aren't you afraid that Madam Lenny will find out about our relationship?"
"If the future Mrs. President is her daughter, do you think that she would care? Plus, what kind of relationship do we have?" Joseph questioned.
Waverly pursed her lips and did not answer. She then changed the topic. "I'm hungry. When are we having dinner?"
Joseph raised his eyebrows and said, "Now."
He got up and spoke to the air, "Serve the food."
Only then did Waverly realize that they were being observed.
No, it couldn't be considered surveillance, Joseph's men had been spying on them the entire time. What about that scene at the hot springs?
"No one saw us at the hot springs," Joseph said faintly.
Waverly's heart sank, and she stared at Joseph defensively.
How could he guess what she was thinking all the time?
The waiters served their food shortly after.
The plate was well-balanced, with a decent spread of protein, vegetables, and carbohydrates.
"Eat up. I'm starving," Joseph spoke casually while eating.
Waverly took the cutlery and did not do anything further.
"What? Are you afraid that I'll poison you? Killing you will be as easy as killing an ant. What's the point of poisoning you?" Joseph teased.
Waverly thought about it and agreed begrudgingly. If he had wanted to kill her, he could have done it in a single shot. If he wanted to toughen her up, there were plenty of ways to make her suffer.
She lowered her head and ate the meal.
"When are you going to work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs? I'll introduce you ahead of time. You could then go to work officially in spring. After all, it's quite cold now," Joseph instructed leisurely.
He spoke in a light tone as if she was just an assistant, and he was just playing games with her.
She didn't like it at all.
"I want to go to work as soon as possible. I'll be bored to death if I were to stay at home all the time," Waverly replied.
"There are so many devils in the Mccarthys to play with, and yet you're afraid that you'll get bored." Joseph's lips quirked into a pointed smile.
"Don't forget that you're a Mccarthy too."
"Oh, Waverly, do you know why your mother hates you and wants you dead?" Joseph said, with a strange light in his eyes.
"Why?" Waverly was puzzled.
"You're not her biological daughter. Of course, she hates you." Smiling, Joseph told her that.
Waverly was shocked. In disbelief, she fixed her gaze on Joseph. Complicated thoughts ran through her mind.
Nobles of M Country could get married to their relatives. Just like in the ancient times of A Country, the royal families placed priority on the purity of their bloodline.
Now that medical technology had developed, they could bypass genetic selection and give birth to healthy children. Only healthy children could keep the imperial powers stable.
Thus, even if she did get involved with Joseph, she wouldn't concern herself with this matter.
What she didn't expect was that she had no blood relations to the Mccarthys.
"Who is my real mother then?" Waverly asked.
"Your mother is one of Melinda's maids. When Melinda was young, she often fooled around with many men, resulting in her infertility. But she wanted a child of the Mccarthys, so she forced her husband to bed the maid and conceive you. However, she didn't foresee that your father would fall in love with the maid. In a fit of anger, she tied the maid up and threw her into the river to drown her," Joseph explained.
"Is what you said true?" Why was Waverly not able to believe it?
"Your father's decline was also caused by Melinda. She forced your grandfather to cut ties with your father. Now, technology is a wonderful thing, isn't it? You could easily find out if you are Melinda's biological daughter by doing a DNA test. Last night, you were attacked. There's a 99% chance that it was done by Melinda," Joseph said quietly.
"So you laid the groundwork for this far to absolve your parents of suspicion?" Waverly said sarcastically, the corners of her lips quirked up.
"I've asked them. They said that they didn't do it. You were attacked as soon as you came back. They would naturally be the first suspects, so how would they go about it like that?"
"I don't believe that Melinda is able to persuade Darius to take action. She doesn't need to frame Uncle Thomson. Wait, are you on her side?" Waverly asked suspiciously.
"Don't underestimate Melinda. She is not an easy woman to deal with. This is just one of her tricks. As for her purpose? It's up to you to find her. Doesn't she have a five-year-old son with her? She will definitely make plans for her son."
"Didn't you say that she couldn't give birth to a child?" Waverly frowned.
"My silly girl. She couldn't give birth 26 years ago. Now, with today's advanced medical development, she could get an ovum anywhere. Once the egg is fertilized and combined, it's easy to transplant it into her. It's a simple matter to get a child, now. If you still don't believe me, you'll know the truth after you've done the DNA test," Joseph said firmly, with a different look in his eyes...
