Chapter 976 If She Quit Now, She Would Definitely Lose

After removing her clothes, she stepped into the bathtub. Laying down, she shut her eyes.
Although the water that enveloped her entire body was warm, she failed to feel its temperature on the inside. After laying in there for ten minutes, she got up from the bathtub.
She didn't want to get any wrinkles from soaking in the water for too long.
Stepping out of the bathtub, she wiped herself dry and changed into a pair of new clothes. Pushing the window open, a gust of cold air blew in.
It was as if the cool wind cleared up her thoughts.
People had their own obsessions, just like gamblers did. Once one thinks that since they've lost so much already, giving up would mean that they were admitting defeat. Therefore, they wanted to put all their hopes into the next round instead, and sink deeper and deeper into the spiral.
Theoretically, everyone knew that the world did not work like that, but it was impossible for a person who had already lost so much to just give in to fate that easily.
She was currently in the exact same situation.
She was a spinster, who had neither a lover nor her virginity. She had lost everything and there was no way she could wriggle herself out of the disaster this time.
Even if the end of this all meant her death, she wasn't going to give up.
If she quit now, then she would definitely lose. However, if she continued on, at least she could hold on to that last strand of hope.
Closing the window, she walked into her room and picked up the phone. Calmly, she dialed Stella's number.
"Hello, Waverly," Stella greeted.
From her side, there was the sound of a baby crying.
"I'll go handle it," Waverly could also hear Jasper's voice.
For some reason, she felt a weird feeling in her heart.
There was no reason for her to feel that way. However, it was just like when she had compared her results to her peers when she was younger. She couldn't help feeling jealous when she knew that someone was fairing better than her. That jealousy drove her to work harder and obtain results better than her previous ones.
However, after she left university, many things failed to turn out the way she had imagined. Not everything could be achieved through hard work.
For example, when two people entered a company at the same time, one would obviously do more work and accomplish more achievements and sacrifice more time, yet the other person would be given a higher pay.
What could you do? Other than feeling jealous, there's nothing else one can do. Would one go complain to their bosses? Doing so would only make them hate you more and nothing good would come out of it. All one could do was to sit there and sulk.
Otherwise, one could just resign and leave, leaving that upsetting environment.
Waverly adjusted her mood and said, "Joseph said just now that he was the one who asked the king to invite Bellamy. As long as Bellamy dies in M Country, the king will have to face the consequences. Therefore, he's prepared to murder Bellamy. Can you convince Bellamy not to come?"
"Waverly..." Stella paused. "I know you care about him and I'm grateful for that. All of us know that you've sacrificed a lot for him. However, he doesn't want you to do anything for him. The more you do for him, the worse he'll feel."
Waverly listened to Stella's voice. The phrase 'all of us' felt like they were excluding her from their side completely.
She was being complimented for being a generous soul, yet for some reason, it felt like Stella was complaining that she was a pain in the neck.
"You're looking too much into it. It's not like I've done anything for him. I just heard about this piece of news, so I decided to call you," Waverly stated bluntly.
"Bellamy is heading over to discuss with the king regarding Z Country's resources. Plus, I think the king intends to take down the Mccarthy family. The reason he's going over to M Country is because of two reasons. Number one, he needs to show his sincerity to the king and number two, he's concerned about you. I think it's best if you stay away from Joseph. He's probably using you to spread rumors to us and tempt you. If Bellamy doesn't meet the king, then all the resources from Z Country might fall into the Lancaster Army's hands. You know that the Lancaster Army are Joseph's subordinates, so this meeting between the King and Bellamy has to continue," Stella said firmly.
Looking ahead of her, Waverly gulped down the bitter taste in her mouth, her eyes clouding with mist.
In the eyes of Stella, all her efforts and sacrifices were probably like a drop of water in a vast ocean.
Moreover, all her efforts were being poured in towards taking Bellamy back, instead of stopping Joseph.
In front of Stella, she was utterly useless. She knew very well where she stood. That was the only reason why she could accept the fact that Bellamy loved Stella. Clearly, she was no match for her.
"I'm sorry," Waverly said.
"It doesn't matter, Waverly. If you can, just leave M Country. You can live a good life. With you living there, Bellamy is constantly concerned about your safety to the point he can't think straight. No one there can kill him, but only you have the power to. I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say," Stella persuaded.
Waverly smiled.
It seemed that Stella cared a lot about Bellamy, too.
Well, at least Bellamy's feelings had not gone to waste.
Upon realizing that she actually felt happy for Bellamy, Waverly guessed this was how it felt like to be his guardian.
"I guess it was just me being too rash, I'm hanging up. Have a good rest. I heard your child crying earlier, sop I'm sorry for disturbing you." Waverly hung up the phone.
After listening to Stella's analysis, Waverly discovered that she had made a mistake.
What she needed to do was not to stop Bellamy from coming to M Country because he had to do so no matter the circumstances. Bellamy had to come here to have a discussion and to prevent Joseph from killing him. He did not need to escape nor hide from Joseph's schemes.
Escaping was also not something Bellamy would do.
What she needed to do was to prevent Joseph from killing Bellamy or to look out for him from the shadows. That was her job.
Was that not right either?
Perhaps she should get married and show Bellamy how happy she was, so he would stay away from her. She did not want him to feel guilty or burdened by her. Waverly made up her mind that she was no longer going to look forward to receiving video calls from him anytime soon.
As long as he was doing fine, everyday would be a good day for her.
Closing her eyes, Waverly slowly swallowed down the bitterness she tasted in her mouth down to her heart. She allowed it to settle down before sealing her emotions up.
The next day, she got up early and asked Hayley to go jogging with her. She ran several laps around the Mccarthy family's property until the sun rose fully.
The sunlight in winter made her feel comfortable and warm, pleasing one's mood.
She ran until her entire body was dripping with sweat. When she was halfway through the final lap, she stopped and walked back to the small courtyard by the lake.
"Madam, you're really good at running. Even I feel tired," Hayley praised her.
Waverly smiled and said, "I used to run a lot, so I still have my stamina from back then. After I'm done with breakfast, I want you to stay at home and take care of the puppy. I need to go out to run some errands for a while."
"Go out? Where are you going? Madam, let me go with you," Hayley insisted, concern lacing her tone.
"I have a blind date tonight. I'm bald now but I can't always wear a hat, so I need to get a wig," Waverly said.
"You're going to get a wig? Then, I'll tag along and give you my opinions," Hayley volunteered.
Waverly laughed, "You, giving opinions about fashion? Are you sure?"
"Fine, I admit that I'm just worried about your safety. If you go out alone, it'll be too dangerous for you," Hayley confessed.
"Okay then, you can tag along," Waverly said in exasperation.
After breakfast, Waverly took a shower and read some books for a while. After all, the shopping mall would only open at ten o'clock.
Suddenly, her phone started ringing.
Looking at the unknown number on the screen, she answered the call in confusion.
