Chapter 905 It’s A Devil That Hides Behind An Angel
Waverly nodded, pushing away the thought. From the drawer, she fetched an envelope with the bonus and handed it to Marie. "Happy New Year, Marie."
"Mrs. President, Happy New Year to you too." Marie accepted the envelope from Waverly's hand.
"Have you taken your breakfast?" Waverly inquired.
"Yes, I have."
"Have some fried fritters. We happened to make too much in the morning." Waverly treated her with politeness.
"Thank you."
"Speaking of which, there is also soup in the pot. Bellamy and I have already eaten. We're going on a trip today and might only come back on the 8th. There are two dogs outside. I may have to trouble you to feed them," Waverly explained.
"Okay, that won't be a problem."
"Also, there are two boxes of clothes and a box of shoes in my room. I have no need for them anymore. If any of your relatives need them, you're welcome to give it to them," Waverly said.
"Yes, yes. Thank you, Mrs. President. They would be more than happy to take in your clothes. When I returned just a while ago, they'd already asked me for it," Marie replied respectfully.
As Waverly had no other instructions for the time being, Marie began to clean up the place. She went into the kitchen to prepare the rest of the ingredients.
In the study.
Quill, Bellamy's subordinate, reported, "At 4 a.m. earlier today, more videos about Mrs. President have been released. Some of them are those... those kinds of videos. Certain parts are even in high definition. Mrs. President's affairs are depicted clearly, and more than once."
"Impossible, she would never do such a thing. Are you sure that she was the one in the video?" Bellamy said, incredulous.
"I have already sent someone to verify it. At first glance, the lady does look like Mrs. President. Even if she's not, she shares a lot of similarities with Mrs. President. By the time we found the video, it has already garnered tens of millions of views, even shares. Wax shops and museums with Mrs. President's wax statues or sculptures have all been vandalized. Someone even circulated a lot of denigrating photos of hers. The blocking system is practically useless, and it is impossible to block all of them for the time being."
"I understand. Don't make this public. I am taking Waverly on a trip today. Don't ruin her mood because of this. Try to verify it first, I am sure those videos are fakes. After that, you may declare an official announcement to the public," Bellamy ordered.
"Mr. President, in that case, the best way to deal with it is to announce a divorce with Mrs. President. Otherwise, it will be more difficult to deal with it after the incident blows up," Quill suggested.
"If I announce it now, it would do too much harm to Waverly. I have already told her that we are going to announce our divorce on the 10th. My word is final, and there's no need to change that," Bellamy said decisively.
When Quill saw how steely Bellamy's determination was, he decided that any words from him would be in vain, and he left the study shortly after.
At 7.50 a.m., the sergeant came with some of his men.
Waverly was preparing everything that she was going to bring to their trip. The sergeant's expressions were weird. It seemed like troubles had found their way to her again.
"Let's go," Bellamy told her.
The guards came over to help them with their luggage.
Waverly looked at the guards, who were carrying her luggage, and their eyes were strange. Their looks left her feeling very unpleasant. Some were malicious, some were disgusted, and some could be seen being sheepish. It was strange, but she could not put it into words.
She boarded the plane with Bellamy. Their plane was not the President's private plane but only a private plane borrowed from a merchant.
The atmosphere on the plane was anything but great.
She did not want to probe at first, for they were about to have a divorce. It would not be a good idea for her to broach too much into political subjects.
However, she felt that this matter was markedly related to her. She wanted to know, so she asked Bellamy in a low voice, "Did something happen to me?"
"It's not a big problem, don't worry about it. It's just that some people can't sit well with the fact that we are still married, so they took some actions. I'll handle it. You fell asleep on the third episode of that show we were watching. We still have two hours before we land. Do you want to continue watching?" Adroitly, Bellamy changed the topic.
"What did they do this time?" Waverly was not one to be distracted by Bellamy's change of subject.
Bellamy held her gaze. He'd wanted to hide it from her so that they could spend time in peace, but she was a delicate and sensitive person.
"They found a person similar to you, recorded some inappropriate videos and posted it on the internet. The citizens don't know the truth, so they are causing an uproar. Now we are going through a technical identification. When we have the proper results, I will reveal it and the commotion will die down," Bellamy explained.
Waverly snorted. "I'm a clean and innocent woman who has never had a fling with anyone else, yet others take me for a skittish and dissolute lady. My aunt makes out with several men at the same time, but she is hailed as clean. How ironic."
Bellamy let silence settle over them.
"That reminds me, I heard that the most beautiful woman in M Country was once morbidly obsessed with you. In truth, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. The Mccarthys are your enemies, and the Haringtons are your allies. That girl is the second daughter of the Haringtons. You two are more suited for each other, not to mention that she is still single because of you," Waverly said after contemplation.
"Someone once told me that if one were to sacrifice their love for their ambitions, they will still be steeping in unhappiness, irrespective of their achievement. Come the stillness of night-time, their loneliness will still show up at the door of their mind."
"I'm guessing that the someone you mentioned must be Stella. She refused the idea of you marrying me at first," Waverly hid her sadness behind the mask of a smile.
"Quite the contrary. In the beginning, the person I was going to marry was your aunt, Qianna. But Stella recommended you. She said that if I must marry a girl from the Mccarthys, then it should be you, Waverly. She told me that you were different from the other girls from the Mccarthys. That you were clean and untainted, strong and determined. That you're a good girl with uncompromised moral views." Bellamy explained.
"Oh, so Stella really is a wonderful woman. I really do envy and admire her. She's actually my idol, but don't tell her that. I used to have a row with her."
Bellamy was surprised. "Why did you have a row with her?"
"I was in a bad mood, and she was an eyesore, so I wanted to stir up some trouble for her. You see, I'm not the virtuous girl you think I am. The blood of the Mccarthys runs in my body. It's just that I have done a good job at hiding away my dark side," Waverly said with a smile so bright that they arched into the shape of a moon.
"You wouldn't ruffle her feathers for no apparent reason at all. Did it have anything to do with Sean?" Bellamy surmised.
"I actually forgot what the reason was. I was just in a bad mood, so I just let it all out. When we separate in the future, remember to apologize to Stella on behalf of me. I totally regretted it after I finished blowing off my steam at her," Waverly said softly.
"She's not a petty person, she won't take it to heart," Bellamy comforted her.
She would rather that Stella was a petty person. She would rather Stella snitch on her with Bellamy and destroy her perfect image in his mind. Only in that way could she could be more relieved.
However, she knew that that would not happen. Stella was impeccable, to the point where not a single shortcoming could be found on her. The only thing Waverly could manage was to be envious of her perfection.
If she was not the woman that Bellamy loved, she would not even be jealous or envious of her.
