Chapter 917 What Do You Need Me to Do

"Waverly, what are you talking about? Apologize to your Aunt Qianna at once," Waverly's mother, Melinda Mccarthy, said sternly.
A thorn pricked Waverly's heart. She looked at her mother. "As soon as I entered the door, Aunt Qianna couldn't be bothered to show a shred of politeness towards me. Mum, why don't you get her to apologize to me then? If I may ask, what I did wrong that an apology is warranted?"
"I thought that you could put aside your feisty temper after becoming the President's wife for a few years. I didn't expect you to still be so stubborn. Since she's your aunt, she's your elder too. It's only right for her to put you in your place," Melinda said seriously.
Waverly raised the corners of her mouth, despondence clouding in her eyes. She said, "In my defense, I've been Mrs. President for a few years, only to find out my mum isn't like other mothers. You're barely like a mum to me. Do mums ever hurt their own children? Even mammals care about their babies. But you, Mum? Well played."
"You've grown outrageous with your age. Don't live here then, we don't want to make your Aunt Qianna mad." Callously, Melinda averted her face away.
"My father's dead and my mother doesn't want me, but this is still in the end, my grandfather's house. Why can't I live here? I'm a little tired now. Uncle Thomson, I'll be off to rest first. I'll visit you tomorrow morning." Waverly nodded.
"Thomson, would you look at her! Does she still regard herself as Mrs. President? She's too arrogant for her own good. I don't want to be in the same space as her. If she sticks around, I'm leaving," Qianna said while stomping her foot.
"I remember that Aunt Qianna has a villa elsewhere, whereas, for me, I don't have anywhere else. If words get out that a Mccarthy child is living on the streets, the family will be accused of being heartless, unjust, and ruthless," Waverly said indifferently.
Qianna was fuming. "You deserve that."
"Alright," Thomson spoke up. "You all misunderstood Waverly. Our family had been plotted against by a few rotten apples. The videos of Waverly were all fake. No one has actually slept with her. To stop the outsiders from thinking that the Mccarthys and the President of A Country were conspiring together, she has ruined her reputation and turned down a chance to prove her innocence."
Qianna's face was flushed. "That President of A Country, didn't he sleep with you before?"
"No," Waverly answered frankly.
Qianna formed a scornful smile with her lips. "No wonder you're acting so weird. It turns out that you're an old virgin. I heard that the older virgins get, the weirder they become."
"I'm not as free-spirited as you are, who lost it at the age of 16..." Waverly trailed off and let her words die down.
Everyone in the family knew about what had happened to Qianna in the past.
Hearing Waverly ferreting out the past again, they felt ashamed. After all, Qianna had to marry Beckham as his victim. She said coldly, "You're so sharp-tongued. All the nutrients in your body are going to your tongue, so that's why your brain isn't as well-developed."
Waverly didn't want to argue with her anymore. She turned around, took her luggage, and went to the lakeside courtyard.
As Joseph watched her leave like a warrior, his eyes went dark, but he kept his thoughts to himself. He, too, wanted to see the reason she insisted on coming back to the Mccarthys.
After that, he would watch her grow dejected, turn towards him and look for him, lying on his feet and begging him to take her in as his woman!
"Thomson, you can't keep her here. You know our current situation. If you allow her to stay, you'll definitely be accused of being mad. You don't know how terrible the rumors will be outside," Qianna said furiously.
Thomson said firmly, "If we turn a blind eye to one of our own, they'll have all the more reason to criticize us. Waverly sacrificed herself to protect the family. That's all she needs to deserve our protection. On the other hand, you're going to marry Beckham soon. You should restrain yourself and stop disgracing us," Thomson said.
"How am I disgracing the family? My brothers and sisters, please be the judge for me. Since I married Lenold, I've been on my best behavior. If Lenold hadn't been seduced by her, I'd still be the respectable maiden that I was. Also, the Mccarthy family isn't just you alone, Thomson. The decision to keep Waverly should be based on a vote by the whole family instead. You can't represent all of us!" Qianna said.
"Before Dad left, he dictated that I should manage the family in his stead, so I have every right to make any decisions. You can oppose it, but it doesn't matter. Everyone, head back to your homes. Let's call it a day," Thomson said domineeringly.
Qianna stormed out of the hall.
"Miss Qianna, don't be mad. No one can help you if you're upset," Qianna's wet nurse, Sophia, tried to comfort her.
"Waverly just humiliated me and now she still wants to come back to us. Thomson is still looking after her. How can I not be angry? That girl was born to go against me. I can't spare her," Qianna said angrily.
"Since you know Mr. Thomson is looking after her, he definitely won't agree to it if you want to deal with her out in the open, and he'll stop you. There are some things that needed to be done stealthily, and you can't leave any evidence," Sophie whispered as she leaned over to Qianna.
Qianna felt that Sophia had a point and asked, "What should I do then?"
"You could move into the courtyard today. Besides, she agreed to let you live with her. Then, behind closed doors, you could torture her to your heart's content. If you pretend to be very polite to her, even if she wants to complain to Mr. Thomson, she'd have no proof," Sophia said.
"Sounds like a good idea. Great, we'll move in today and throw a fancy-schmancy party tonight to disturb her. Doesn't she like peace and quiet? I won't let her have it," Qianna said proudly.
Sophia gave her a thumbs-up. "As time goes by, even if you don't kick her out, she'll be leaving because she's all fed up."
"I'll advise her to leave as soon as possible, else she wouldn't even know how she's going to meet her death," Qianna said sinisterly.
......
Waverly returned to the courtyard. The servants of the Mccarthys were still active, leaving the house spick and span even though no one was living here.
She started unpacking her suitcase.
She didn't bring a lot with her. There were a few changes of clothes, some pairs of shoes, and a small selection of cosmetics. It was like she packed light for a one-off trip instead of a move.
She was ready to start a new life, so she had to buy new clothes, cosmetics, and jewelry.
After locking the main door, she went to the mall. The day was still bright, and she also had something else to deal with.
She dialed a number on her phone and said, "Hey, Bobe, it's me. I'm back in the Mccarthys'. Is your man alright? I saw him fall off the motorcycle."
"Joseph went easy on him. He only shot him in the arm. It should be just a warning. This man is very dangerous. You have to be careful," Bobe said seriously.
"Don't worry. He's not our target. I'll scratch your back and you'll scratch mine," Waverly said.
"What do you need me to do?" Bobe asked.
