Chapter 845 Don't Overthink, It'll Make You Sad

"How does it feel?"
"Excuse me, your grapefruit juice is ready," the waiter interrupted.
"It's quite a relaxing experience. Your whole body is floating in the air, kind of like you're flying. Your back goes numb. It doesn't hurt and then you feel nothing," Eli explained.
"Doesn't sound convincing to me. You'd better hurry and bring the grapefruit juice over," Reuben reminded.
"What's the hurry? They're busy flirting with each other anyway. My presence there is like a third wheel. It'd be so wasteful if I were to serve it and they only drink one cup of the juice. Who knows? Maybe they sent me away on purpose," Eli said leisurely. She lifted her cup casually and took a sip of the juice...
She realized what she had done. She looked at Reuben and said to the waiter awkwardly, "Sorry, could I trouble you for another cup of juice?"
Reuben was amused by Eli's words. He was in no hurry to urge her to leave.
However, Sean was in a hurry.
He checked his watch four times and looked at the house impatiently.
Eudora looked at Sean adoringly. "Alastair, why don't you just drink mine?"
She handed the juice that she had drank to Sean.
Sean didn't take it. "Give me a massage, just like you did yesterday."
"Okay," Eudora put down her cup, went behind him, and started massaging his head.
Sean had slept at her place the night before, but they hadn't done anything. She just gave him a head massage until he fell asleep.
Sean was a big shot who controlled the fate of D Country. All ministers, including the President's daughter, were fawning at his feet. If she could marry him, the Gold family would definitely stand out among the ministers and become one of the leaders of D Country.
She was trying her best to get into Sean's good books.
Sean still felt annoyed. He looked over towards the house and checked his phone again. It had been half an hour. It shouldn't take that long to get a cup of juice.
Eli finished drinking her grapefruit juice and came out of the house with a new cup.
Sean's brows relaxed when he saw her. He hugged Eudora's waist and held her in his embrace. He said to Eudora in a gentle voice, "I'm much better now. Your hands really are like an angel's."
Eudora lowered her eyes shyly. "If you want, I can stay by your side and serve you for the rest of my life."
Upon hearing Eudora's words, Eli smiled with relief as she set the glass of juice down gently on the table.
The relationship between people was everchanging. A good friend today could be a stranger tomorrow. A lover today could be an enemy tomorrow, and vice versa.
Humans were unpredictable. She wasn't smart so she didn't give it too much thought. She couldn't see through people, so she figured she might as well not try. She didn't want to overthink it or care too much.
When love was gone, care meant nothing. She had to accept the reality in front of her.
It didn't matter.
A different life and a new circle. She wanted to go back to square one and start afresh.
Sean and she were in the past. Now that he had found a new lover, she was happy for him.
That was all there was between the two of them.
She looked elsewhere. The landscape here was well managed. It was green and there was a forest at the end of the grassland and amongst the trees was a clear lake. How relaxing would it be to be able to sail in that lake right now?
Sean slowly kissed Eudora's face. He stopped three centimeters away from her face and looked at Eli.
She was gazing at the lake, her mind preoccupied and her lips curling upwards.
Sean's face turned ashen and a stream of anger shot out of his eyes. "Who told you to stay here? Piss off."
Eli came to her senses and saw Sean glaring at her angrily. She noticed that Sean and Eudora were really getting into it, so she assumed he must be asking her to get lost.
She strode quickly to the small house.
Sean saw her leave and started to regret it. His brows knitted together.
He was too prideful to ask her to come back.
"What's wrong? Are you having a headache again?" Eudora asked with concern. "I'll give you another massage."
She got off of Sean's body and went behind him to give him another massage.
When Reuben saw Eli returning, he asked worriedly, "Are you alright?"
Eli smiled and said, "Why wouldn't I be? They wanted some alone time so they sent me back."
Reuben looked at Eli and saw the innocence on her face as if nothing had happened. "I heard..."
Reuben didn't finish his words and lowered his head.
"What did you hear?" Eli asked. She was impatient and she didn't like it when others didn't finish their sentences.
"Mr. Hodge said that you are Mr. Yaleman's enemy. Mr. Yaleman had put you beside him to torture you," Reuben looked at Eli curiously.
Eli laughed. "Enemy? How they think is their business. I don't want to be encumbered and tortured by them. As long as it's not my heart, I can take any other kind of pain. Oh, by the way, could we go boating in that lake over there?"
Seeing her optimistic expression, Reuben's heart ached for her even more. "It's a lake for fishing. They hold annual competitions there too. You should be able to sail there. Do you want to?"
Eli nodded. "I remember that there was a fishing farm in A Country a long time ago. Stella and I went fishing there. The autumn wind would blow gently, and the water would ripple."
"Let me see. If you have time today, I'll arrange it for you," Reuben said gently.
Eli looked at him with gratitude and said, "Reuben, let me give you something. Give me your mobile phone."
Confused, Reuben handed his phone to Eli.
Eli opened his messages and typed out a series of numbers and saved it into his drafts. Then, she handed the phone back to him.
Reuben glanced at the draft and said, "What's this?"
"This is the money I have in Switchland Bank. It's all yours," Eli said with a smile.
Reuben looked at Eli in surprise and frowned. "Why would you give it to me?"
"I don't need it. My husband is dead, my child is gone, and my friend..." Stella flashed through Eli's mind. "She has a lot of money, and some of it was given to me by her. If I die, this money will be given to Switchland Bank for nothing. I think that you're a decent man so I want to give it to you."
"Keep it for yourself," Reuben angrily deleted the account number and password that Eli had saved in his drafts.
Eli pursed her lips and looked at him with a complicated expression. In fact, she knew that Sean would never let her die, nor would he let her go.
If she didn't tell the truth, she would be imprisoned for life. She would never be able to use this money.
If she told the truth, Sean would go to war with Hodge and all those men behind the scenes. The future was too unpredictable and she couldn't handle the consequences.
Haward was dead. She wanted to give her life up for him. Plus, she was missing an arm. She didn't dare to think too deeply about it because she would feel sad. If she kept telling herself she was going to die anyway, she would feel less sad about the fact that she had lost an arm.
