Chapter 857 I'm Fine, Don't Worry

Why was he observing her when she was sleeping? Was he thinking of punishing her?
Shuddering, she got up with a smile and asked, "Why on Earth are you looking at me?"
"Come to the study room after brushing your teeth and washing your face," Sean said.
"Where is your study room?" Eli asked.
She didn't know where it was because she had never been here before.
"It's the next room," Sean replied and went out.
Eli was baffled by his behavior. She walked to the next room after brushing her teeth and washing her face.
However, the person waiting in the room was not Sean, but a man whom she did not recognize.
The man smiled at her and went straight to the point. "Hello, my name is Ethan. Please fill up this questionnaire for me as accurately as possible. It's mandatory for everyone in the villa to fill this up."
Eli was a doctor, and she was also a good friend of Stella. She immediately knew that it was a psychological assessment designed for her, and she nodded.
Ethan handed the questionnaire to her and said, "Please tick in the relevant boxes."
Eli studied the questionnaire. It was multiple-choice, with four answers for each question.
1. 'No',  2. 'A little', 3. 'It feels somewhat like this', and 4. 'It feels exactly like this'.
The first question, "Are you experiencing any loss of appetite or couldn't help overeating?"
Her answer was number four. It was exactly like that.
The second question, "Have you lost your interest in sex?"
It was exactly like that.
The third question was, "Do you suffer from insomnia or feel weak and sleepy all day long?
It was also exactly like that for her. She would either stay awake all night or she would always feel like sleeping all the time. She suddenly realized that these questions were specifically made for her.
The fourth question went, "Are you concerned about your health?"
It was exactly like that for her again. She always felt that she either had a poor stomach or an ailing heart. Nothing seemed to be going well for her.
The fifth question was, "Do you think that life is worthless and meaningless, thus it's better to die than to live?"
Eli was starting to feel hopeless. When she was wide awake in the dead of night, lying alone in bed, she would always wonder why she was still alive. She was repeatedly living the same life day in day out, and she would not be able to remember anything meaningful when she dies. She was just barely surviving now. Thus, it did not really matter when she would die.
She took a deep breath and put a tick under 'It's exactly like that'. However, she changed it to a cross and put a tick under 'No' instead when she thought of Sean. She did not want him to know that she had no motivation to continue living.
The sixth question was, "Do you always feel sad or depressed?"
Her answer to this question was 'It's exactly like this' again. Whenever she lay alone in bed with an empty mind, she would always feel depressed and very sad.
The seventh question went, "Do you feel lost for your future?"
This question hit her right in her heart. She felt lost, and she did not know if there was any way out.
The eighth question went, "Do you feel worthless?" The ninth question was almost the same as the eighth one. "Do you feel powerless?"
Yes, it was exactly like that. That was not only what she felt, but rather, it was her truth.
The tenth question was, "Do you blame yourself for everything?
Eli's eyes turned red. She blamed herself a lot. She was not just blaming herself. She was angry that the fact that she was not smart, and that she had always acted impulsively.
The eleventh question was, "Are you hesitant when you're making a decision?"
What kind of question was that? She was not smart. Naturally, she would hesitate because she was afraid of making the wrong decision.
The twelfth question was, "Are you in a state of anger and dissatisfaction?"
What was there to be dissatisfied about? She could not escape and she could only live her life as dictated by others. It would obviously be too fake if she were to tick 'No'. She finally chose 'A little' for this question. She chuckled to herself. She chose this answer for the sake of Sean. However, truth be told, she was dissatisfied.
The thirteenth question was, "Have you lost interest in your career, family, and hobbies?"
It seemed to be the case; she had lost her interest in doing anything. Even when she went on a boating trip or played games, she would only feel a brief moment of happiness. When she thought of playing games or rowing a boat with her lost arm, she would instantly lose her morale.
The fourteenth question was, "Have you lost your motivation to do anything?"
It was exactly like that.
Finally, the fifteenth question. "Do you feel that you have aged or if you have lost your charm?"
It was not what she simply felt. It was the truth. She really had aged. She already had white hair, and she even lost her arm. Where had her youthful charm gone? It was exactly like that.
She handed the questionnaire back to Ethan with a smile once she was done.
Ethan took a quick look at it, and his face turned pale. Looking at Eli's smiling face, he lowered his head, stood up, and said, "There's no need to fill in the rest. You may leave now."
"Oh, then I'll go right now," Eli replied cheerily. Walking out of the room, she realized that Sean had been standing at the door the whole time.
Eli frowned and asked in surprise, "Aren't you busy with work? You look quite free to me."
"Today is my wedding day. I have given myself a holiday. I will be busy again tomorrow," Sean explained.
"Well, why are you looking for me?" Eli asked indifferently.
"Go and watch some TV first," Sean ordered, showing the way to her.
Eli could sense that Sean was behaving strangely. He seemed to be looking for her, but he also seemed not to be looking for her.
"Whatever," Eli shrugged. She went downstairs with a smile and turned on the TV.
Sean then walked into the study room.
Ethan stood up and handed the questionnaire to him. He explained, "'No' is zero points, 'A little' is one point, 'It seems like that' is two points, and 'It's exactly like that' is three points. Her total score added up is forty-four points."
"What does that mean?" Sean asked with a hint of worry.
"She is suffering from very severe depression, and she is on the verge of a mental breakdown."
Sean's breathing quickened, and his hands started to tremble. "But she's not acting like that at all."
"I once had a patient. The root cause of her illness was her little daughter. Her daughter was 18 years old, and she had excellent grades and a cheerful personality. She had many friends and she participated in many of the activities organized by the school. She blended well with different groups of people She was also in a stable relationship and she had organized charity sales with her friends. She would visit the old folks' homes to take care of the elderly. Other people's impressions of her were that she was always very lively and cheerful. She always had a smile on her. But such an angelic girl like her committed suicide in the end."
Sean's brows furrowed. He shared, "Eli had attempted suicide before. She jumped down from the top floor of Century Tower, so I locked her up in a cave. I wanted her to beg for mercy, but she... just wanted to die."
"I've seen many patients with severe depression. Those who were rescued after attempting suicide would only try to do it again. I have a patient who has tried to commit suicide eight times. He cut his fingers off, as well as his forearm. The last attempt was when he jumped off a building while his family was not paying attention, and he died on the spot."
Sean was nervous, scared, and anxious. He gripped Ethan's shoulders and said, "How will you treat her? Cure her. You must cure her."
"It's difficult for people like her. Some of the depressed patients have very obvious symptoms. That's their call for help. They subconsciously know that it's not good for them to be like that, and they want to be cured.
However, your wife is different. She uses a smile to conceal her illness, so no one would notice her problem. This means that, in her subconscious mind, she doesn't want to be rescued. This kind of patient is unusually stubborn.
Moreover, drugs don't help much with depression. Self-medication is the best cure and I can't do much with my abilities.
I heard of a world-renowned psychologist called Stella Grace. If she could treat her, Mrs. Yaleman will have a better chance of being cured. Why don't you seek her help?" Ethan recommended.
