Chapter 1100 I Have No One Except For You
"Let's stop fighting for the time being," Waverly said.
"For the time being?" Joseph looked at her in his arms and asked, "Do you really want to start a war against me?"
She looked up at him. Even though she was no longer crying, her eyes were still red.
She did not know if she was confused because of her sickness or if she was touched because of her dreams.
She thought about it for a while and felt that she was truly a failure.
She had no relatives, no friends and no one to love her. All this time, it had been her own wishful thinking. She had always been alone.
"I know it's impossible for you to fall head over heels for me nor can you love me. However, it seems that I have no one except for you," Waverly said as her eyes were becoming glassy.
It would've been impossible for her to get the title of Peace Lady if Joseph hasn't done something behind the scenes.
If it weren't for him, the people she could buy would just be those ordinary people worth one or five million dollars in the black market.
The more she compared herself to him, the more incompetent she felt. The more incompetent she was, the more terrible her temper would be. The more she hated herself, the more the hatred would grow and the more she hated the world.
She seemed to have become an annoying bug, acting pretentiously to maintain her so-called dignity. In fact, she had long been looked down upon by others, and even her dignity was trampled upon constantly.
Even she despised her current self, let alone others.
Tears rolled down her face.
Joseph looked at her deeply and wiped the tears from her eyes with his fingers, "As long as I'm here, you'll be fine. You're just a girl. You're only twenty-something years old, so you don't have to put so much pressure on yourself. You don't have to be so strong and you don't have to fight so hard for victory."
Waverly laughed.
How could Joseph be hers?
She couldn't even count on Bellamy, let alone him, who was full of ambitions.
Perhaps one day, he would personally stab a knife into her heart with disgust, contempt and coldness and ridicule her.
She closed her eyes. Many people had abandoned her, many people had betrayed her and many people despised her. That was why she had built a wall around her heart.
She could not trust anyone except herself.
In the middle of the night, she had a high fever and seemed to hear someone's voice.
However, her head felt too heavy and she was unable to wake up, so she fell back asleep.
"How could this be? She only fell into the river! It's 30 degrees here. She shouldn't have such a high fever like this. She even took antibiotics and drank warm tea," Joseph said angrily to the doctor.
"Don't worry, Mr. Mccarthy. I'll draw some blood first and run some tests to see what's going on," the doctor said with fear.
"What? She already has such a high fever, yet you still want to draw blood? She is already malnourished to begin with. If you draw her blood, how long will it take for her to recover?" Joseph said angrily.
Standing beside him, Joshua was exasperated. He sighed heavily in his heart and could not hold it back anymore. He said, "Fevers require blood tests to know whether it's a virus or if it is caused by other factors. If it's a virus, the medicine used will be all different."
Joseph glanced at Joshua and said, "It's enough to just draw a single drop. Look, she's so thin that she doesn't have any flesh left."
Joshua was dumbfounded.
The doctor was also at a loss for words.
This drop of blood was really troublesome to draw.
The doctor used the smallest tube and drew up to half a tube of blood, "Then, I'll go back and run the tests first. When the medicine is ready, I'll send it back."
Joseph looked at his watch and asked, "How long will it take?"
"About one hour," the doctor said.
"Finish it as soon as possible," Joseph instructed.
"Yes, yes," the doctor answered and went out.
He sat on the head of the bed and looked at Waverly, who was unconscious. His eyes were gloomy, as if he was immersed in the deepest parts of the abyss.
About half an hour later, the doctor came over.
"How is her condition?" Joseph asked.
"There is no problem with her blood. Her fever might have been caused by the cold, shock and psychological stress. If possible, after she wakes up, I suggest for her to do a full-body checkup and then visit a psychiatrist," the doctor said and administered the medicine into her IV bag.
"Psychological stress?" Joseph looked at Waverly and thought of her crying. He remembered that she said, "However, it seems that I have no one except for you."
He furrowed his brows and his gaze became meaningful, "What else do you want other than me?"
"Mr. Mccarthy, it's already three o'clock in the morning. You haven't rested yet. You also didn't rest much yesterday and the day before," Joshua reminded him. His heart was aching for him.
"You should head back and rest first," Joseph said.
"She has already been given an IV drip and medicine. The doctor also said that there is nothing wrong with her. We can bring her for a check-up and take her to see a psychiatrist when she wakes up. You should take a rest first," Joshua did not leave.
Joseph looked at the medicine bottle.
"The medicine in her IV drip takes time to flow into her body. It takes about one and a half hours for the medicine to take effect. I'll stay here and watch over her. Everything will be fine," Joshua said.
"You haven't had much rest these days either. You head back first. I know what to do." Joseph said.
Joshua still did not leave, "Sir, you're spoiling her too much. The more a woman is spoiled, the more willful she becomes."
"It's not necessary for you to teach me that kind of logic. Have you ever had a girlfriend?" Joseph said with disdain. He glanced at the door, "Do you need me to send you out personally?"
Joshua took a deep breath, but there was nothing he could do about the situation. He lowered his head and left.
......
Waverly woke up in a daze. After the fever, she felt incredibly dizzy. She even felt that the air around her was different from the past.
She looked sideways and saw that Joseph was still sleeping, as though in a deep slumber.
In terms of appearances, he did look quite decent. He was handsome, delicate and had inherited the good-looking genes from his parents. His lips were red and his teeth were white. However, with his personality, no matter what his appearance looked like, it would go 'poof' into the clouds. Waverly was always so angered by him that she would gnash her teeth with resentment, even starting to hate his face.
She sat up, but Joseph was still asleep.
In the past, he had always been very alert.
Had he been infected by her cold and developed a fever as well?
She put her hand on his forehead. His skin was not hot.
Joseph held her hand and opened his eyes slightly, "You're touching my forehead?"
He reached out and touched her forehead with his hand. Realizing that her fever had subsided, he breathed a sigh of relief. He closed his eyes and said, "I'll sleep for a while. Go play by yourself."
Waverly did not say anything.
She got up, brushed her teeth, put on some light makeup and opened the door.
Boris stood at the door.
A little surprised, Waverly closed the door and asked, "Why are you here?"
"Welch told me the address of your residence and I've already received the money. It's normal for me to come here now," Boris said.
"Thank you for your hard work. Have you had breakfast?" Waverly asked.
"I've already eaten. What do you want to eat for breakfast? I'll go and buy it," Boris said.
"You are my ally. We stand on the same boat and we live and die together. You are not my attendant, so you don't need to treat yourself as my servant. I respect you," Waverly said.
"Bellamy losing you really is his loss," Boris said.
Something strange flashed across Waverly's eyes, but it disappeared in a flash.
Not letting anyone discover it, she said, "I'm going downstairs to eat. If you're not full, let's eat together. I have something to tell you."
