Chapter 978 I'll Make Her Suffer
"Madam, you look stunning," Hayley cooed.
"There's always someone out there who's prettier than I am. I'm just average," Waverly said.
Then, she walked into a perfume store and bought a jasmine and bamboo scent infused perfume.
The jasmine smelled sweet, while the bamboo gave off a musky scent.
The jasmine was pleasant to the nose, uplifting one's mood.
Whereas the bamboo's muskiness could help one calm down.
Apart from that, she also bought a few formal suits.
To match with her straight, dark hair, she chose to wear a peach suit.
She had never worn this kind of suit before. Looking at her reflection, she thought she looked 36 years old instead of 26. She had never felt so young before.
By the time she was done shopping, it was already one in the afternoon.
"Hayley, let's find something to eat. I need to head over to the Ministry of External Affairs later," Waverly said.
"Okay, but if you're in a rush, we can head over there right now. I'll take the puppy for a walk and pick you up once you're done."
"You don't have to pick me up. I'm going out for a blind date tonight, so I'll head there straight after," Waverly said.
Hayley paused in surprise, "Madam, are you really going on that date?"
With much difficulty, she nodded, "I really want to go."
She had to go.
On one hand, by going, she could make Joseph be aware of her. On the other hand, she no longer wanted to drag Bellamy down any longer.
She wanted to create the illusion that she was incredibly happy. From now on, she would make Bellamy leave her life.
That was the reason she was so intent on this blind date.
Hayley lowered her head in disappointment.
She was secretly hoping that Waverly could end up with Bellamy again.
Seeing that glimmer of hope diminish in front of her, she felt quite upset.
Waverly held Hayley's shoulder and comforted her with a smile, "I'm actually happy now, so it's fine. Come, let's go get something to eat."
Nevertheless, Hayley wasn't convinced, "Then, will you marry the man you're going to see later?"
"Even couples who are deeply in love break up. Do you think getting married will be that easy?"
"Oh, I see," Hayley let out a sigh of relief. "It's fine as long as you don't get married."
After deciding to eat at a pasta restaurant, they realized that someone was talking behind their backs ever since Waverly stepped into the shop.
"That woman looks a lot like the wife of A Country's President. Have you not watched the video of her before? She's so cheap," someone whispered.
Upon hearing that, Hayley was about to throw a fit when Waverly held her hand and spoke in A Country's dialect, "Just ignore them. They don't know you and they don't know what you're like. People who judge you without knowing you are just rude. What's the point of getting mad at people like that? You're just pulling yourself down to their level. The wise never believe in rumors. If you get mad at people like that, you'll be the dumb one."
Hayley felt better in an instant, feeling that Waverly had a point.
"How can these people be so spiteful?" Hayley said angrily.
"They're bored, so they want to find something to gossip about. This is every human's weakness. We use other people's sorrows, humiliations, mistakes and sadness to entertain ourselves. We compare ourselves to them just to feel satisfied. There are many out there who do this, so don't punish yourself for other people's faults," Waverly said softly. After she was done eating, she said, "Let's go."
As she stood up, the three men and one woman who were talking about her earlier blocked her way.
"Hey, Miss, what's your name?" the woman asked.
Hayley stood in front of Waverly defensively, "Who do you think you are to ask for her name like this?"
"I just searched it up and you look quite similar to the wife of A Country's president. You can't be her, can you?" the woman scanned Waverly from head to toe.
Waverly looked at the girl in front of her with a blank face.
Bellamy did offer for her to undergo plastic surgery to completely alter her appearance. That way, no one would be able to recognize and insult her.
However, she had not taken him up on his offer. Her appearance held a lot of memories for her.
As a result, even if there were people who slandered her, cursed her and said mean things, she was still reluctant to erase her past completely.
"I am." Waverly didn't deny her accusations. "I am Waverly Martell. What can I do for you?"
The woman obviously did not expect her to admit it. Thus, she was shocked and was rendered speechless for a moment.
"Would you like to spend a night with us?" said one of the men, looking at Waverly from head to toe. His tone wasn't arrogant or forceful. On the contrary, he sounded sincere.
Once those words left his mouth, even he felt embarrassed and his eyes evaded hers immediately.
Waverly smiled slightly, "I'm afraid that's not possible. I have a lot of things to do. I have to go to the Ministry of External Affairs to have a meeting in the afternoon. Plus, the video you watched is fake. Back then, I was framed. I couldn't defend myself and had to file for a divorce. However, I can assure you that I've never done anything wrong."
The four youngsters exchanged puzzled looks.
"I'm a fan. I liked you a lot in the past," the young boy confessed.
"Thank you. Then, I'll be leaving first," Waverly nodded.
Hayley trailed behind Waverly before turning to look back at those people after a few steps.
She saw that they were shoving each other, as if teasing one another.
"Madam, he likes you," Hayley said with a smile.
Waverly smiled slightly, "When I was a child, I also liked Prince William."
Hayley was taken aback by her response, and had no idea how to respond.
"Let's go. I still have some time to spare so I'll send you back to the Mccarthy family's residence before going back to the Ministry of External Affairs." Waverly said.
"There's no need for that. I can go back by myself. I'm free the entire afternoon anyway. By the way, Madam, do you want to put on some makeup?" Hayley asked curiously.
Waverly nodded as she really was supposed to put some on. She replied, "I have some inside my bag."
"Well, Madam, call me when you need me. I'll definitely rush over as soon as possible," Hayley said before gleefully leaving with the puppy.
Before making her way to the ministry, Waverly put on a face full of exquisite make up. That way, no one would make fun of her.
Moreover, she also had a blind date to attend tonight.
Attraction began with falling for the other's appearance. If her date, Yazoo, failed to fall in love with her at first sight, then there was no point in forcing them to get together.
As she walked into the building of the Ministry of External Affairs, a group of people flashed strange looks at her.
Waverly pretended to not take any notice and sat down in the seat that they had arranged for her.
Many of them still continued to stare at her.
The telephone on the table rang.
Waverly picked it up.
"Hello, Waverly. I'm Sasa, the one who called you before. I'm the head of the assistants. Please head on over to the first conference room for a meeting now," Sasa notified.
"Alright, thank you," Waverly hung up, grabbed a notebook and pen, walking out.
"How does she even have the face to show up for work? She disappeared into thin air in the past few days. Doesn't that count as skipping work?" complained the short-haired brunette who had an altercation with Waverly before.
"Judie, stop it. She comes from a well-known family. That's not something you can compete with," replied a girl who was sitting close to Judie as she stared at Waverly with a displeased look.
"Ah, that divorced b*tch. I promise to make her suffer," Judie cursed.
