Chapter 898 They Can Live A Happy Life As Well

"Let me help you." Bellamy picked up the skewers on the table. "When did you buy these?"
"I bought it online a long time ago, but I never had the chance to use it, so I put them away. Do you want to help me prepare the sticks?" Waverly asked softly.
"Of course. Are those ready?" Bellamy looked at the ingredients on the kitchen island as he asked.
"These don't need any marinating. You could just stick them on the skewers. We won't be roasting them immediately anyway, not until evening. Place them on that metal plate after you've skewed them." Waverly set an iron plate beside Bellamy.
"How come I never knew you were capable of this?" Bellamy asked softly.
Waverly gave him a mild smile.
She used to take care of her father alone, so she knew how to do all these. After she was married to him, she devoted all her attention to studying politics and strategy. Besides, he had a housekeeper, so there was no need for her to do these drudgeries.
"It's not like this is a special skill. Plenty of women know how to do these. You can have a taste of my cavalier appetizer later. Try them and tell me what you think about it and then rate it," Waverly said jokingly.
Bellamy, too, chuckled. "What if I miss this too much in the future?"
"When I leave, I'll leave everything to Marie," Waverly said with a hint of smile. She opened the pot and a fragrant aroma wafted into their noses.
"I'm already hungry even just smelling it." Bellamy stared at the pot where another broth was cooking.
"No matter how hungry you are, you still have to wait. We've got to let it simmer, else it won't taste good." Waverly stirred the broth and covered the lid once more.
When she finished marinating the meat, she skewed the food with Bellamy.
Their daily lives were usually surrounded by the topics of politics and strategies. Now that they could enjoy their occasional breaks, it felt as if they were a real couple, joyfully preparing dinner together.
"We have too many ingredients. Would you like to invite your mother over for dinner?" Waverly asked casually.
"Stella is still resting after giving birth, so my mother should be busy. There's no need for that," Bellamy replied.
He was always putting Stella above everything else. Forget it, even if she was her daughter-in-law, their bond might not even survive for long. It could only mean trouble if their relationship deepened.
Silently, she skewed the ingredients.
It was half past seven in the evening. Due to the heavy freezing snow outside, the sky was so bright that they lost track of time.
The two of them finally managed to skew up all of the ingredients.
"Are you tired?" Bellamy asked her.
She shook her head and chuckled. "Well, I am still young. If you are tired, you should go and rest on the couch."
Bellamy picked Waverly up. "Who says that I'm tired? I could still hold you and run an entire marathon."
Waverly naturally clasped her arms around his neck. "In that case, please move the pot and the ingredients to the table for me."
"The snow outside seems to have stopped. Should we hold the barbecue outdoors? But it might be cold, so you should wear more," Bellamy suggested.
"That sounds like a good idea," Waverly agreed without hesitation.
Bellamy then put Waverly down. "I remember that I bought a furnace to keep warm before. Do you still remember where we kept it?"
"Oh, that. It's in the storage room. It uses coal as fuel. Are you sure we can barbecue with it?" Waverly reminded him.
"I am just using it to keep you warm. I am a specialist in barbecuing outdoor. Last year, Jasper asked me to go fishing, then we had a barbecue outside. I thought that their equipment looked good, so I bought one myself."
Waverly recalled that someone had sent them a box, but she had never opened it. She guessed that it was the shelf used for outdoor barbecuing. "Stella likes fishing a lot."
"Back when she was not with Jasper, there was a time when they were stranded on a deserted island. After that experience, she started to like fishing and other leisure entertainment," Bellamy explained.
"That deserted island you mentioned, is it the island that is now used for training?" Waverly asked curiously.
"Yeah. Now they would go to the island every year for vacation."
"If, I mean if, Jasper died that year, you would be with Stella, wouldn't you?" Waverly asked tentatively.
"No," Bellamy replied firmly. "If Jasper had died, then Stella would also be dead. She would never be able to live by herself."
"She is a rare woman. She could still remain so determined even when faced with so many temptations. It's a shame that you appeared a little too late, otherwise, there would still be a chance for the two of you to get together," Waverly said calmly.
"Let's not talk about this anymore. I'm going to the storage room to get some stuff," Bellamy said as he walked up the stairs.
They were like two lonely people, leaning against each other, warming each other up. However, because there was no love in their warmth, this warmth gradually turned cold and dead.
Waverly looked out of the window. The snow-white view was still as vast and endless.
Since when did she fall in love with such snowy days?
She could not remember anymore.
There was a scene in her memories where she made a snowman with her parents, and the scene of her and her family chatting happily together.
She and Joseph were very naughty when they were young. When the river was frozen, they competed to see who was braver, stepping on the ice, and playing on the surface of the river. The surrounding area had also been spanned with white.
Before her parents divorced, the childhood she had was carefree and happy.
"What's on your mind? Didn't I remind you to wear a coat?" Bellamy reminded her.
"Oh, I was just looking at the snow. I'm going in to get dressed now," Waverly said as she walked into the room and put on a down jacket.
"There's a screen in the storage room. It looks rather sturdy. I'll take it out later so we could use it to block out some of the cold, that should make it a little warmer," Bellamy said.
A screen?
She remembered she'd bought it back when she got married. Bellamy's mother had wanted to stay with them for a few days, so she moved into Bellamy's room and they bought a screen to create a temporary barricade.
Now that she thought about it, Bellamy would not have done anything to her even if she didn't use it, right?
If he had wanted to do anything to her, a locked door would not even be enough, let alone a screen.
"That screen is made of solid wood. You can't move it alone. I'll help you, we'll leave it outside for future use. We could use it as decoration too," Waverly said softly.
"Sure."
Waverly and Bellamy moved the screen together. There were a total of eight pieces, and they were all huge and heavy. It could cover a total of nine square meters.
Bellamy installed the screen beside the lake, and he only used seven pieces of wood, deliberately leaving out one opening for the scenery to be visible, as well as convenience for walking in and out of it.
It was already 8.30 p.m. by the time they were done preparing everything.
Bellamy had a taste of Waverly's steamy broth.
"Mm, this is superb. I could give you a Michelin star," Bellamy praised.
Waverly smiled and said, "It is because you are too hungry. When we are hungry, everything tastes delicious. Even a piece of toast can taste like a million-dollar cake. When you are not hungry, you wouldn't want to taste even truffle cakes."
"Well, it's not like I'm starving to death. But it's really good. What's the secret?" Bellamy asked as he poured her some beer.
Waverly took a sip. The beer was cold, and more so now that they were outside. After gulping it, she couldn't help but shiver. "Bellamy..."
