Chapter 839 I Love You

Haward felt that her last sentence was a little strange. Was she not planning to see him off when he died?
He thought about it more, but it made sense. After all, there was no way Sean would allow her to be there.
He didn't want Eli to be upset when she noticed the disappointment in his face. Instead, he smiled widely and finished the wine in his glass.
There was a knock on the door. Hodge pushed the door open and came in. He looked at Eli and said, "It's time for you to go."
"His blanket is too thin. Could you change it to a thicker one tonight?" Eli asked.
Hodge looked at Eli's pleading face and agreed. "I'll get someone to send a thicker one over later."
Eli smiled and looked back at Haward, waving her hand. "See you again, Haward."
He liked the meaning behind that phrase. "Yes, see you again."
Eli turned her back against him and immediately, her tears flowed down like a river. She didn't want Haward to hear her sob, so she quickly went out.
Haward looked at the smoked duck pasta cooked by Eli and smiled. As he took a bite out of it, he started to cry too.
After all, he didn't want to leave Eli, but there was nothing he could do. No matter how reluctant he was, he had to hide his feelings in his heart.
Eli cried for a long time in the car.
"I'll send you to the Century Tower now," Hodge said coldly.
Eli came to her senses and looked at Hodge. "If you send me there now, Sean will know that you had forced me to death when he investigates it later. I'll pretend to escape from the car at the traffic light later. You chase after me and then lose me on purpose. Report it to Sean and tell him I've escaped. Then I'll jump off and you won't take the blame."
Hodge looked at Eli in surprise. "Why are you helping me?"
"I don't want to carry all this resentment since I'm going to die anyway. I want to go to heaven. My parents are such good people, so they must have gone there. If I go to hell, I won't be able to see them," Eli uttered as her teardrops fell.
"Don't you dare go back on your words. You know very well that if you don't die this time, a torturous life awaits you. The Chief won't let you go," Hodge reminded.
Eli took a deep breath and tried her best to calm down. She stopped crying and said, "It's my fault that Sean is no longer President. Now, I'm paying for it with my life. I think that my debt is cleared. Wouldn't you agree, Mr. Turner?"
Hodge hesitated for three seconds and replied, "Yes, it is."
"That's that then," Eli didn't want to think about it anymore. Her mind was in a mess anyway, and she didn't want to dwell on it.
She stared ahead and saw the traffic light. She pushed open the car door and ran out.
Hodge's men immediately went down and chased after her.
As soon as she turned the corner, those men pretended to lose her.
She wanted to go straight to Century Tower, but when she thought about it, she wanted to look good when she died. Perhaps, put some makeup on, and dress nicely. However, it was most likely that her whole body would be smashed to smithereens if she were to jump from the Century Tower. She was vain and she didn't want to look ugly when she died. Hence, she decided to wear a mask to hide her face.
She put on her makeup delicately, and put a mask in her bag. She even bought a white dress.
It would be too cold to wear a dress on a March evening. However, Eli was about to die so she didn't really care about the cold.
She went to the roof of the Century Tower. The wind grew stronger as if it was about to pierce through her skin and freeze her to her bones.
Eli shivered. She took out her phone and took some selfies. She made a lot of different poses. Then, she chose the three prettiest photos and posted them on her social media with the caption, "Goodbye, my friends. I hope you all live a good life."
She then deleted the remaining photos.
Finally, there was only one thing left to do.
She video called Stella—her best friend in this world.
The news of her death would definitely reach Stella. She didn't want Stella to be sad, nor did she want Stella to not be able to see her one last time before she died.
Stella answered her call.
Eli saw Stella.
Stella was still as beautiful as ever. She was gentle yet capable, weak yet strong. She was the most perfect woman Eli had ever seen and she was so proud to have her as a friend.
"Hi, long time no see," Eli greeted with a smile. She took a look at herself. She looked really pretty.
Stella was shocked to see Eli. She smiled, "Eli."
It was only a brief moment of happiness when Stella realized that something was off. Eli was dressed so thinly, so she asked worriedly, "Where are you?"
"I'm on the roof of the Century Tower. This is the tallest building in D Country. It overlooks the entire city. I had wanted to show you around when you came that year. I'm sorry I'll have to break my promise, but I can show you the view now."
Eli faced her camera forward and turned around slowly. Then, she turned the camera back to herself.
She raised the corners of her lips when she saw Stella's solemn face.
Stella was the smartest and most rational woman she had ever seen. She knew that Stella already guessed what was going on. "You know, Stella, I think being your friend has been the most glorious thing I've ever achieved in my life."
"Has something happened? As I've said before, I will help you with anything," Stella's eyes reddened.
"No, I had some problems of my own the last time you came to see me. So, I wasn't like my usual self. I don't like it when I become like that," Eli said with a smile.
"Yes, I could tell you were having problems. However, I will try my best to protect you as long as you are willing to let me help you. You aren't just a friend to me, you're like my sister. You and I are closer than real sisters. I will take care of you for the rest of my life and help you with whatever you want to do. I'm very happy that you called me," Stella smiled at her.
Eli looked at Stella and wept. She didn't want to leave Stella. For so many years, she had consistently dreamed of the days when she and Stella were back in the hospital. They worked together as a team, helping and comforting each other. Their chemistry just matched so well and they became best friends.
"Eli, what happened?" Stella asked.
Eli shook her head and took in a deep breath to adjust her emotions. However, she couldn't, no matter how hard she tried.
She turned the camera away. She didn't know whether she was talking to Stella or herself. "If I cry again, my makeup will be ruined. Then, I won't be beautiful."
"Don't think about anything today. I'll book a flight to D Country now. We'll talk about it when we meet," Stella said.
Eli pointed the camera at herself. "Stella, in the next life, I want to be your sister. Don't worry about me and don't miss me. You've always done great. You have to be happy with Jasper always."
"Eli," Stella was anxious. "What do you mean by this? Don't overthink. I can help you. I have the ability now. Let me help you."
"Stella, listen to me. My death has nothing to do with anyone else. I just miss my parents. I've asked someone to bury me with them. I have no regrets. Stella, I love you," Eli said anxiously. Without giving Stella the chance to answer, she hung up the call and turned her phone off.
A person who wanted to die would not want to inform others of their impending death. They wouldn't hesitate too long and they definitely wouldn't give someone else a chance to save them.
She put on her mask and climbed up the railing. Then, she looked up at the bright moon in the sky and smiled.
She didn't want to die crying. She wanted to die with a smile. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She felt the cold wind blowing through her long hair. She emptied her mind and jumped down from the 101st floor of the tower...
