Chapter 951 Cat and Mouse
"If I killed him, Qianna would never let you go. I still don't want to see you die so soon, so of course I'll keep him alive. Are you at ease now? Please go back soon so that my man won't go crazy for losing sight of you," Joseph commented casually.
Waverly looked around. Could it be that he had also purchased the same God's Eyes system as Jasper? Otherwise, how would he know everything?
Anyway, it was a good thing to know that he hadn't killed Lenold.
She breathed a sigh of relief, but she was still concerned.
Qianna would never marry Beckham if Lenold was safe and sound. Joseph would've already thought things through before he made such a decision, but what did he have in mind?
The more she thought about it, the more tortured she felt from playing this mind game with him.
More importantly, she felt that she was under his control.
Back at the Mccarthy family home.
As expected, Joseph's subordinate was about to report to him when he lost sight of Waverly. His face fell when he spotted her and he reminded, "Miss Martell, you'd better believe that it will be no good for you to make Mr. Maccarthy angry."
"Is your job done after I buy the car?" She asked.
"Mr. Mccarthy had ordered me to follow you around until the car was bought," the subordinate replied.
"Alright then, let's go. I want to sleep after that," she remarked as she went into the car.
Hayley also followed behind and sat next to her.
Waverly shut her eyes to rest.
"Mr. Mccarthy wants to know which car model are you looking for?" Joseph's subordinate questioned.
She opened her eyes.
She wasn't that passionate about cars. She originally only wanted to purchase a car of the middle price range to get herself around.
She was also frustrated at the fact he insisted on buying her a car. She wanted to rebel against him.
He insisted on buying her a car, didn't he?
He should not regret his decision then.
"Are there any limited edition cars for sale now? The ones with ready stock," Waverly bluntly asked.
"Ferraris and Lamborghinis are around 10 million dollars each, and they're more suitable for you, Madam," the subordinate uttered with a poker face.
"Lamborghini then," she casually replied and looked outside the window.
"Mr. Mccarthy asked me to show both models to you. If you like them both, he will buy both of them. If you don't like them, he will still buy them and smash them into pieces," he added.
Waverly was lost for words.
"Just how rich is this Joseph to smash a car worth ten million? Is money nothing to him?" Hayley exclaimed in shock.
The subordinate smiled proudly, and that was the first, rare smile on his face for the whole day.
He was spirited as he boasted, "Mr. Mccarthy can sell a pistol at billions. Ten million dollars really don't mean anything to him."
Hayley peeked at Waverly, "Is he really that rich?"
Waverly nodded. She knew that the pistol designed by Joseph was sold starting from a hundred million dollars, and those pistols were no longer available for sale.
Joseph's subordinate took them to the car dealer.
The sales representative was passionate and generous in hosting them. Waverly quickly lost interest after taking a glance at those cars.
Such luxurious cars were not suitable to be placed in front of a modest house.
She began to regret being so impulsive. She dialed Joseph's number before she made any rash decisions.
He answered the call. "Don't tell me that you don't like both models?"
"They are great, and I do like them, but please don't buy them for me. As a divorcee, I can't afford to drive such a luxurious car, and would it be okay for you if I tell everyone that you bought the car for me?" Waverly expressed her thoughts directly.
"Will they believe you just because you said that? Just drive it, and no one would suspect me for anything. The money Bellamy gave you was sufficient enough for you to buy both cars," Joseph answered with certainty.
It seemed that he knew just how much Bellamy had given her.
"I only need a car slightly around a hundred thousand dollars," Waverly interrupted.
"Are you begging me, acting coy to me, or simply requesting me to do so?" He smiled.
She could do neither, so she gave in, "Fine, whatever you like then."
"Waverly, one day you will understand that there's nothing wrong with compromising. Struggling and hesitating for nothing will only cause you pain," he said meaningfully.
"Same goes for you. It seems like you have already thought things through," she hung up the phone call. She then turned around to Joseph's subordinate and ordered, "You just get me a car of his preference, since I don't seem to have a right in saying anything. Send the car over to me and leave the keys on my coffee table. I still have somewhere else to head to."
The subordinate frowned and asked, "Don't you want to look around for a little while more?"
"Joseph had already made his decision. I can look at my things whenever I like, so it doesn't matter if I stay any longer now. Just tell him whatever I told you when he asks you about it," she added before she left.
Hayley followed behind Waverly. She cast a glance at Joseph's subordinate and criticized, "Madam, I don't quite understand if this Joseph is treating you well or not? I think he's nice to you at times, but he has a bad attitude."
"If you are a mouse, and a cat was raising you intentionally, do you think the cat has good or bad intentions?" Waverly countered.
Hayley immediately understood, "He wants to raise you healthily so that he can have a great meal someday. Let's stay away from him."
"Let's go to the supermarket to buy something first before I head back for a nap. My head aches," Waverly sighed.
"Maybe you wore too little when you went out previously and caught a cold. Let's buy ourselves some ginger tea to keep you warm," Hayley suggested.
Waverly was reminded of Bellamy's words, and she nodded, "Sure, you'll have some with me too."
"Yes, Madam," Hayley agreed.
"Let's buy some vegetables. I have checked that we can use the gas stove in our kitchen. Or we can buy an induction cooker to cook some dishes when we're free. Then, we won't have to eat out every day. The weather is getting colder. It's best to stay home," Hayley smiled.
"Sure," Waverly responded with a smile.
They bought an induction cooker, some daily necessities, some toys for the dog, and some ingredients before heading back with a cab.
A red Ferrari was parked by the entrance, and Joseph's subordinate was still there.
He handed the key to Waverly and notified her, "You can drive this car first. I'll bring the Lamborghini over later."
"I can't drive two cars once you send it over. You drive the Lamborghini to Joseph's mansion first. He has more space over there. I'll pick the car up whenever I need it. It's too much to park two cars over here, and he'll stop by here sometimes too. It's way too much," Waverly muttered sarcastically.
"I will convey your words to Mr. Mccarthy." The subordinate acknowledged and left.
Hayley glanced at the car in front of them and blurted out, "The car looks great. Madam, will this car be yours from now on?"
"I'll head upstairs for a nap. Help me check if he planted anything in the car," Waverly directed as she turned around to get upstairs.
The pain in her head grew stronger, and she needed more sleep to cope with it. She had to keep her mind running as she had another mind game waiting for her that night...
