Chapter 873 I Will Fatten You
Maple replied, "For the sake of my child."
Eli then asked again, "What happens if your child is unfilial in the future?"
Maple laughed wryly and said, "Well, there isn't anything I could do about that, yes?"
Perplexed, Eli probed, "Why would you still want to live then?"
Maple replied thoughtfully, "I think that I'm enjoying my life pretty well now."
However, Eli did not share the same sentiment. In her opinion, Maple was still working hard to buy a house for her child at such an age, even without very little left for herself. Eli once heard that Maple's health was not doing well and her back hurt so much that it was difficult for her to stand up. Her husband was not by her side too.
Eli then asked again, "Which part of your life are you enjoying now then?"
Maple gave it a quick thought and said, "I have enough food every day, the dishes are quite good. When I'm free, I get to watch television. Aren't I enjoying my life?"
Eli laughed and her eyes started getting misty. She felt much more at peace after having a good cry.
If what Maple said was true, if such days were indeed enjoyable, then she did have a good life, didn't she?
She lived in a villa by the sea and she had a stress-free job. There was plenty of time for her to relax, and during the summer holidays, she was able to watch television for 2 months and do nothing else.
Stella took good care of her, frequently bringing her things and visiting her, satisfying all of her requests.
But... why was she still unhappy then?
She should feel happy, yes?
Eli then gave Stella a call, "Stella, I'm going over to yours tonight for dinner."
"I'm afraid today won't do. They have already gotten Natasha and I need to head over to M Country. I'm already preparing to leave," Stella said apologetically.
"Hmm... alright, be careful though, you're about to give birth. You must take care of yourself and try to remain calm since you might go into labor at any time. If the baby is born in M Country then he or she will be a citizen of M Country," Eli reminded her.
"Okay."
"Also, could you tell me the outcome? Is Natasha the murderer?"
"I will update you once I have more information. Also, I'm going to see the Harington family".
Eli was concerned that Stella might be in danger. "Will Jasper be going with you?"
"He's worried about me so he will be coming with me. Don't worry, I'll be fine." Stella knew of Eli's concerns.
"Have a safe trip," Eli said and hung up the phone.
"Miss Wayne, we are having a class gathering today. Come and join us!" The class monitor from Class 1 invited Eli.
Since she did not have anywhere else to go that day, she accepted the invitation happily: "Sure. What time and where is the gathering?"
"6 p.m., at the Southern Jurassic Restaurant, I'll be heading there first. I'll make a reservation for you," the class monitor said and skipped away.
Eli sat on the lawn until the sun began to set. When she looked at her phone, she realized that it was already 5.30 p.m. She stood up and walked towards the school gate.
As soon as she exited the school gate, a van stopped right in front of her. Before she had the chance to realize what was happening, two people grabbed her and pulled her into the van.
In shock, Eli asked them cautiously, "Who are you and why did you kidnap me?"
"Don't be afraid, Mrs. Yaleman. We are Mr. Yalemen's people. He has just returned to the country. In order to prevent anyone from following him, he sent us to come and pick you up," the driver replied.
Eli was surprised and her mind was buzzing with questions, "Did you just say that... Sean is back in the country? Isn't that very dangerous?"
"Don't worry, Mrs. Yaleman. Mr. Yaleman was well prepared before coming back," the driver replied.
Eli still felt uneasy. It had already been 3 months since they parted ways.
She did not think that she would see Sean, at least not for the next three years. She was so nervous that the palms of her hands started sweating.
The van drove for another ten minutes and eventually reached the entrance of an underground basement in a villa. Immediately after, the door to the basement opened, and the van entered. It entered another garage after driving down a winding road.
Sean stood in the garage, wearing a light blue suit, smiling at her.
Eli quickly got out of the van and ran to him. She scrutinized his stoic face, growing more nervous by the second.
Sean did not move. Their eyes were locked onto each other for the longest time.
"Why are you here"? Eli asked. She was frowning and filled with worry and unease.
"I miss you," Sean replied simply, staring blankly at Eli.
He then explained, "My subordinates told me that you have been doing well for the past three months. I hoped that that was true, but I was also hoping that you would not forget about me just because life is good for you now. I was worried, that's why I came back."
Eli was both angered and amused, and she shifted her gaze away from him.
Sean noticed that she was wearing her prosthetic arm. If he hadn't looked closely, he would not have noticed that it was a prosthetic. He asked her out of concern, "Are you used to the arm yet?"
"Thanks to the earlier stimulations, it's actually quite easy to use now. Apart from my little finger that glitches sometimes, I could do simple tasks with my other fingers," Eli explained.
"That's because you started using the prosthetic arm not long after you broke your actual arm. Let's head inside. Is your school going to have its winter holidays anytime soon?" Sean asked as he walked, sounding a bit like a chatterbox.
Eli sighed and suppressed her emotions. "Most of the students have already finished their examinations, and winter holidays start the day after tomorrow. I'm going to have dinner with my students tonight."
"What time is your appointment?" Sean asked.
"We are meeting at 6 p.m. at the Southern Jurassic Restaurant."
"Do you want to go?" Sean asked in a deep voice, looking at her eagerly.
It seemed as though he would arrange for someone to send her over in a heartbeat if she wanted to.
"I wanted to, but since you're here now, I can't just leave you here. When are you leaving?" Eli asked.
Sean was elated when he heard the first part of her sentence, but he gradually grew upset toward the end. He held her by the waist and turned her face to him, "So you're really hoping that I would leave."
"No, it's not that, it's just that you being in the country is too dangerous. There was trouble, don't you know? Natasha killed Weldon. Natasha was arrested today, and Stella has already gone to M Country," Eli explained worriedly.
"It's because all their attention is focused on M Country that I could come back here quietly."
"Stella said that if the Mccarthy family and the Griswell family do become enemies, the Harington family could be revived again. Yvonne hates you more than Natasha. What is going to happen then?"
Sean's eyes sank. "I will take care of them. Don't you worry."
"Wouldn't Yvonne come after you?" Eli became even more concerned.
"No, she won't. If she wanted to kill me, she would not have waited until now," Sean noticed how concerned Eli was, and he sighed.
The world of politics was too dark and twisted. He did not want her to know too much and he did not want her to be involved either.
He smiled and caressed Eli's face.
"You seem to have gained a little bit of weight since I was not around. I'm not sure if I should be happy or upset." Sean tried to change the topic.
"Would you like me to be thinner or fatter?" Eli was a simple-minded person. Just like that, she had gotten sidetracked.
"I'm hoping to be the one to fatten you up a bit."
"Don't you worry, I could still gain 500 grams," Eli countered.
Sean smiled affectionately at her.
Just wait a little longer. Just a little longer and everything would be fine.
