Chapter 890 We Can Only Be Happy If He Is
Stella felt her heart tightening as if a thorn had penetrated it. It would hurt and turn sore at a touch.
"I'll talk to Bellamy about it," Stella said solemnly.
Waverly's eyes were brimming with tears as she nodded. "Thank you, and please don't tell him that I came to you. He doesn't want you to know, as he didn't want you to feel guilty and worried about him."
"I know," Stella replied in a hushed voice.
Waverly then walked out of Stella's room.
Stella's heart was in turmoil. Inhaling a deep breath, she got up from the bed, draped on a coat, and stood by the window.
Snow was beginning to fall from the sky, and the snowflakes were fluttering.
Over the past three years, fragments of her memories would occasionally resurface. Perhaps subconsciously, she didn't want to be in the thrall of her self-denial anymore, and all her memories soon came back. Both the ones she remembered, and the ones she didn't.
She felt sorry for Sean for bailing Bellamy out.
She felt sorry for Eli for causing her and Sean to be separated, leading to the subsequent torture.
She felt sorry for Bellamy because she insisted on releasing Sean.
Everything that happened to Waverly were a direct consequence of her doings.
She didn't know what to do, and fear rose in her.
She was afraid that Bellamy and Sean would fall into uncontrollable conflict just because of a word from her. By then, death would be upon Bellamy, if not Sean.
One of them was Jasper's brother and her friend.
The other was her best friend's lover.
"What's wrong?" Jasper's voice rang out.
Turning her head, Stella looked at him, her eyes pleading for help. "I don't know what to do anymore. I feel that I've done Bellamy and Waverly a disservice. If Sean hadn't been released, Waverly wouldn't have been framed, and she and Bellamy wouldn't have been separated."
"Maybe it's a good thing that Bellamy and her are separated. He has always wanted to set her free," Jasper comforted her.
He took Stella's hand in his and continued, "Things have changed with time. What you did was the best choice at the time. After all, there are so many variables in the future. We didn't expect them to take a video of Waverly either. Don't pile all the blame on yourself. And don't forget, I've also been involved in every decision you've made. If something do happen, we'll weather it together."
Touched, Stella stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Jasper, resting her head on his chest and listening to his strong heartbeat. "What should we do next? Bellamy is at the verge of giving up."
"Stella, I don't think that Sean wanted to be President. He only did it because of the pressure from his family. He wanted to be free and to be with Eli more than anything. But that doesn't mean there aren't other people who covet the position of the President. Again, there are too many variables in this world. What we have to do now is to be strong enough to decide and turn the tide," Jasper said sensibly.
Stella was enlightened by the words. "You're right. If we are strong enough, we can stop a lot of things.
Jasper nodded. "I am now contacting Madam Lanke to procure the support from Allando. All the countries in Allando will be our strong and steadfast backers."
"Okay, I'll go with you."
Jasper smiled. "Get some rest first. Your health is my utmost priority."
Although Stella was aware that she was still in postpartum, her worries did not ease up on her. "Remember to keep in touch with me then."
Jasper tapped at her nose. "Well, I couldn't pay her a visit before the New Year holiday, could I? Even if you're free, she's not."
"Oh," Stella sighed. She was too eager. "Bellamy will divorce Waverly, right?"
"Yes, there will be a press conference to announce this. Soon."
"There's nothing wrong with her per se, and I can tell that she cares about Bellamy. Let's not shortchange her and give her as much as we can."
"Bellamy said to give her 50 million dollars upfront. If it's not enough, he'll make up to her. He wanted her to live a carefree life. She's still young after all, and when she leaves, she should be able to adapt to life outside quickly, just like how she adapted to the role of Mrs. President."
Stella nodded. "She's a victim of political maneuvering. I hope that she could let go of her past and live a life of freedom. Let's get someone to protect her, so we could have some peace of mind."
"Bellamy has already arranged for that. I heard that the Mccarthys won't leave her alone. He's already got someone to protect her in secret and help her go incognito, too."
Stella took a deep breath. "Bellamy is quite thoughtful. If it weren't for all these, perhaps, they would be a good match."
"Bellamy has no feelings for her. The two of them only got together as a matter of convenience. It's better that they're apart now," Jasper said in a hushed voice. As a glimpse of light flashed across his eyes, he looked deeply at Stella.
"Waverly's a good girl. As for Bellamy, we'll help him find a woman, too. We could only be happy if he is."
Jasper nodded. "Get some rest. I'll bring you dinner later and keep you company."
"You don't have to eat with me today. Go stay with Bellamy and the others. We can always eat together next time." Stella pushed Jasper out.
Jasper kissed her on the cheek and left.
Since Stella was still in postpartum, she couldn't go out or play with her phone. After mulling it over for a while, it occurred to her that she ought to say something to Bellamy. It would be better if she could use text messages to avoid embarrassment and emotional conflict.
She took out her phone from the drawer and sent a few simple text messages. "Bellamy, in the five years you have been in power, the country has progressed towards new prosperity and stability. You have done a great job, and you are well suited to be the President. I hope that you will continue to serve as President. Let's give it our all."
Bellamy was playing games when he saw Stella's message. He was startled.
"Uncle Bellamy, you're dead. Wait, I'll avenge you." Sandro was still focused on the game.
Bellamy looked over to Stella's room, his hand gripping his phone for a long moment.
Meanwhile, Waverly was standing just a short distance away, staring at him.
He had never looked at her with such eyes, loving, affectionate, inclusive, sad, and complicated. In that instant, it was as if a thousand words were swimming from those eyes.
Her heart was sore, but she wasn't sure if she was worried about Bellamy, or… if she was being jealous.
But it was alright. Silently, he watched over Stella, while she watched over him without a shred of regret. To avoid any feeling of aggravation, she shielded herself by casting her bread upon the waters. With that in mind, she smiled slightly and turned to go out.
Waverly then dialed a number. "Joseph, it's me, Waverly."
"Hey," Joseph answered. "You okay?"
"I'm pretty good. Bellamy will soon divorce me, and I'll be free," Waverly said.
"Congratulations. Lenold divorced Qianna too, today."
Waverly took a deep breath. "Do you still like me?"
Joseph let the question hang. Just then, fragments of memories came to his mind. Were the years clouded, or was reality too harsh? Could one be unearthed from the past and yet remain immaculate?
Waverly smiled. "I'm still a virgin. Do you want me?"
