Chapter 834 What Is Your Purpose?
"As for the environmental factor, so far all our data shows that we have met the appropriate standard of air quality control. We'll build protective walls and plant trees so that we can have more greenery. Our clean water movement has also been pretty efficient so we will keep that up. Additionally, we plan to build a garden on the sixth floor to effectively absorb dust and promote a healthy oxygen cycle."
Stella nodded and said, "After the meeting, have a discussion with the Planning Department. We should get our greenery projects done before we begin construction. We don't want to cause pollution."
"Alright," the Leader of Environmental Protection replied.
"For livelihood, after our last discussion, we decided to increase the funds for education as well as family planning. We won't make any changes to the pensions. Ninety-nine percent of our produce will be coming from an organic farm. Apart from that, at present, we outsource our clothing and medicine. I suggest we come up with projects for those two sectors as well."
"We can expand the medicine sector by adding it to our research department. But for clothing, it tends to promote pollution, so I don't think we should delve into that for now," Stella said decisively.
"What if we make clothes by hand instead? That would be more environmentally friendly. right? Moreover, we can establish our own brand and eventually export it. That'll increase our profits as well," the Director of the Public Management Bureau suggested.
"That can be considered. Make a detailed report and show it to me."
"There is another problem. With regards to housing, some couples have more than one child. There are some who have 2 children within the span of 3 years. There are also some who invite their parents to move in with them, some even go as far as including distant relatives. It makes the house too small for living and they tend to request for another house. If we approve their request, then it will open the floodgates and everyone else will follow suit. But if we don't approve, they won't be able to live comfortably in one house."
Stella stopped writing and looked at the Director of the Public Management Bureau. "How could there be such a problem? When we were allocating housing, we only allowed them to bring in their parents as well as minors that need care."
"They think the environment here is good and there are a lot of employment opportunities. Children are given the chance to get an education and jobs are allocated to everyone. So a lot of people ended up bringing in their relatives."
"Rules are rules. We can't be too benevolent or else the people won't appreciate it. They will become over-privileged and selfish. It will disrupt the peace in our community. When we registered the citizens here, we had them change their National Identity cards to indicate their address in Southern Bay, right? From now on, only those people can have permanent residence here. Anyone else who comes to visit may only stay up till a month. Please take care of this matter, Aiden," Stella said as she looked at the Police Chief.
"Got it, I'll inform the management and set up a stricter entry procedure. I'll also tighten security and get them to make rounds to each house to give notice to all the residents," Aiden reported.
"For those who are already here, give them a month to visit so they have time to prepare. As for the children issue, we've already increase funds for family planning. Furthermore, we're planning to construct more residences. Some will be allocated for the military but some will be available for purchase by the families. We can discuss more on this later," Stella said.
Aiden nodded in agreement.
The meeting lasted for more than three hours. After each key department made their report, their subordinates would produce a more detailed report. Stella would note down each issue raised and come to a conclusion. Her notes could then be used for further research. What she wanted to see next week were solutions. If there really wasn't any, then the issue could be brought up again to be discussed.
When she came out of the meeting room, Lynette came over and gave her a sandwich that she had made that morning. "Mrs. Milton, you've worked hard."
Stella smiled and looked at Lynette's belly. "You're eight months in, right? You don't have to do these sorts of things for me. You should stay home and rest so that you can take care of your health. Have you already applied to a confinement center? I'll give them a call and make sure they give you the best treatment."
"I'm strong. Don't worry. I can work until I give birth. Sinclair is also an orphan. He's been on shifts at the General Mansion, so there is no one at home anyway. I might as well stick by your side," Lynette said.
"Speaking of this, I'll give you and Sinclair a few months off after you give birth so that he can take good care of you and your child," Stella got into the car.
"It's alright. I will stay at the confinement center for two months, so there will be someone taking care of me and my child."
"With a husband around, your mood will be different and it'll affect the child differently as well. How often will you give birth anyway? Just listen to me. Once you've had your rest, you can bring your child to work. Sandro is starting school soon. My mother-in-law will be so happy if you bring your child over. She loves children. Besides, you are my mother-in-law's goddaughter," Stella said with a smile.
Lynette nodded.
Suzi had just finished preparing lunch when Stella returned to the General Mansion. "Anthea and I were just wondering whether you or Jasper would come back first."
"Anthea is here?" When Stella turned her head, she saw Anthea, who had grown chubbier.
She stood up respectfully and said, "Mrs. Milton."
"Long time no see. Your complexion is getting better and better. You look very happy," Stella said with a smile and looked around. "You didn't bring Starry here?"
"My grandmother is taking care of Starry right now."
"How's work in the hospital? Did you run into any trouble?" Stella saw the hesitance in her eyes and took a guess.
Anthea lowered her head in embarrassment. "I was lucky since I've been following you from the beginning. So, I got a high position in the hospital once Southern Bay was built. But my IQ and EQ don't seem to be high enough for me to handle the job. I get tired easily and it makes me feel like I'm not good enough. Therefore, I'm having a hard time. That's why I was hoping I could come back here and work for you, Madam Shine, and the Young Master again."
There was a strange look on Lynette's face. After all, she had been taking care of Stella, Suzi, and Sandro all this while. However, now that she was going to give birth soon, someone had to take over and take care of them.
She wouldn't care if it was someone else. After all, she had been with Stella for so many years, no one would be able to shake the foundation that they had easily.
However, Anthea was different. She, too, had been by Stella's side for many years. In terms of time, Anthea had been here no less than Lynette. Lynette was worried that if she was away for a few months, Stella might favor Anthea more when she came back.
"What about Elvis? He needs you to take care of him as well," Lynette said.
"Elvis is usually busy at work, and he comes back late every day. Moreover, he comes to the General Mansion to report every day, so I can still see him there. I can always go home at night," Anthea explained.
"Are you saying that you'll come to work only during the day? Sandro has to go to school in the day and he only comes back in the evening. What's the point then?" Lynette asked directly.
Anthea was rendered speechless by this question. Distress and confusion could be clearly seen in her eyes. She lowered her head as a lot of things were weighing on her mind...
