Chapter 919 Thick-Skinned

"You don't have to." Waverly swiveled around and settled herself on the sofa. She fetched a glass of cocktail from the table, sipping it slowly, her nonchalant gaze sweeping over the people present.
As the saying went, birds of a feather flock together, and these people were living proof.
What kind of person was Qianna, and what kind of people did she befriend? Only pretentious divas, if not hooligans, disguised as gentlemen, would be revolving around her.
"Aunt Sophia, come up with a way to give her a piece of my mind. She's getting on my nerves," Qianna spat out, locking eyes with Waverly.
"Don't worry, Miss Qianna. I've already arranged something. You can wait for a good show later," Sophia said confidently, glancing at the corner of the room and winking at it.
Two girls came out of the corner, dressed to the nines. One of them was Candy, with a pair of long tassel earrings dangling from her ears, while the other, June, wore large round earrings, a rose tattoo on her neck.
They deliberately walked up to Waverly.
"Hello, hello. Isn't this the girl in the video? I heard she's the wife of A Country's President. Did the President fail to keep up with her in bed? Why would she have to seduce her own uncle? How wanton," Candy said disdainfully.
"Godd*mn right, she looks like an old hag. Look at how she gets around. She's not half as good-looking as her Aunt Qianna, and she'll never be. How did her uncle fall in love with her?" June said.
"Definitely thanks to her superior skills on the bed. Look at those videos and the way they were filmed. She deliberately recorded them. Quite a b*tch, eh. Some men prefer b*tchy stuff, I guess. After all, you don't need money to play with them," Candy raised her voice.
"Ah, she must have thrown herself at them. Nowadays, there are really all kinds of brainless women. No wonder the President of A country doesn't want her anymore. No man could stand this kind of woman. B*tches like her wouldn't even fear STDs," June added. She was also getting louder.
"She probably has contracted one. Look at her sickly pale face. It only serves her right to be abandoned by the man," Candy continued.
Waverly feigned to be oblivious, her face straight.
Since this was a performance, she was all for the role of a spectator. No matter how wonderful the performance was, the curtains would eventually fall.
"I heard that she's seduced her uncle before, only to be caught by Qianna. She wanted to drive her away, that was why she ran off to A Country," June said.
"Is the President of A Country a dumba*s?" Candy wondered aloud. "Wanting a woman like her. But look what happened now, he's been cheated on."
Hayley looked at the two people blabbering amongst themselves. She frowned and asked Waverly, "Madam, are they talking about you? I can see that they keep glancing in your direction."
Waverly smiled slightly. "Probably."
"I'm going to teach them a lesson," Hayley said calmly and stood up.
Waverly grabbed her hand. "Their purpose is to taunt you, make you upset, and tear you apart. Why should you fall for it?"
"But their words are getting under my skin. If I don't teach them a lesson, they'll think that we're some pushovers," Hayley said, incensed.
"Everyone here is Qianna's friend. If you make even a little mistake, they'll film you and post the videos on the Internet without context. Since these people dare to provoke me, a lesson will of course be in it for them. But not right now, and most certainly not in front of everyone. They'll pin the blame on us. Am I clear?" Waverly said to Hayley.
Hayley rolled her eyes, as if she had roughly understood. "I know."
"While they're here right now, they'll eventually go away. Don't give them anything they can use against you," Waverly reminded Hayley.
"Mm," Hayley replied.
Waverly was a little tired. After all, she had been traveling all day. It was mentally taxing to engage in a battle of wits and gutsiness. However, based on Qianna's behavior, it would definitely be a long night.
She gave a lopsided smile and made a call to Joseph.
Joseph heard the noise on her end and scowled. "What's with the noise there?"
"Aunt Qianna just moved in and she's throwing a party now, so of course it's noisy," Waverly said cheerily.
"I told you to stay with me, but you didn't listen," Joseph said. "Do you want me to pick you up now?"
Waverly leaned on the sofa, her elbow supporting her head. "I called you not because I wanted to listen to your criticism. You don't need to pick me up. I just want to ask if you're home."
"I am. You're still so stubborn. She's probably going to throw a party 24/7. Are you sure that you can handle it?" Joseph asked.
"She's already 36, but I'm only 26. It is she who can't stand having a party every day, not me," Waverly said with a smile. "I just glanced around, and it seems that none of the guests is as handsome as you. Even if there's one, he won't be as elegant as you, never mind as powerful."
Joseph was in a good mood after hearing her flattery. "Did you just realize this? I'll come over later."
"Nah, it's too late now. See you tomorrow," Waverly took the initiative to invite him.
"Alright," Joseph said. "See you tomorrow."
Waverly hung up the phone and put it back in her bag.
The two women had been acting for a good ten minutes. When they were finally left with nothing to say, they only looked at each other.
Sophia revealed a fierce gaze, indicating for them to kick it up a notch.
"How thick-skinned could she be? This is the first time I've seen someone so shameless," Candy said.
June splashed the cocktail in her hand right on Waverly's face.
Hayley clenched her fists, biting down her anger.
Waverly was still as calm. She plucked a piece of tissue and wiped the liquid off her face.
Seeing that Waverly didn't react, Candy also dumped her cocktail on Waverly's face.
"What the heck are you doing!" Thomson came out of nowhere and roared, staring at Candy.
Candy was horrified. Thomson was known to be as terrifying as a lion when he was angered.
Sophia immediately winked at the two girls. That was their cue to leave.
Candy and June got out of the house. Immediately, Qianna tried to stand up for them as she said, "Thomson, what's wrong with me having a blast of a party? You didn't even bat an eyelid last time."
"You can do it back in your home, so why at Waverly's place?" Thomson said furiously.
"It's what Waverly agreed to, right? Waverly?" Qianna looked at Waverly.
Impassive, Waverly looked at her, pursing her lips and refusing to speak.
Qianna looked at Thomson and continued, "Look, Waverly's part of the party too."
"If she's a part of it, why does she have alcohol all over her?!" Thomson scanned the crowd but didn't spot Candy. He said in anger, "Who did this?"
No one answered him.
He guessed it must be the two girls who had left, so he said in a fit of rage, "Get your a*ses out of here!"
The crowd stared at Qianna.
Qianna nodded lazily.
The partygoers dispersed one after another.
"Waverly, this is your fault. If you don't like my party, why didn't you tell Thomson earlier? Are you trying to blight me in front of him?" Qianna asked Waverly in front of Thomson.
Waverly stood up, her eyes sharp and resolute, her aura suddenly overwhelming.
