Chapter 929 What If I Don’t Go?
"Hayley, do you like snowy days?" Waverly asked.
"No. On snowy days, we have to increase the intensity of our training, and it's easier to get sick. I like spring and autumn. It's neither too cold nor too hot. It's the best," Hayley said sincerely.
Waverly looked out of the window and murmured, "I like the snow."
Every time it snowed, Bellamy would treat her exceptionally well and let her sleep in his warm embrace.
Her phone rang again. She looked at it, frowned, and answered the call impatiently, "What?"
"It's snowing," Joseph said.
"I know."
"Don't go out and run around in this weather. Didn't you say that it was painful earlier?" Joseph said reproachfully.
Waverly smirked and said provokingly, "It hurts when I see you, but it doesn't hurt when I don't see you."
"In that case, you would probably in pain for the whole night tonight. My people have already gone to pick you up. You will sleep at my place tonight," Joseph ordered domineeringly.
Waverly felt guilty. She had just talked to Lenold on the phone. He wouldn't know about it, would he?
No, that was impossible.
"Hayley, go and find someone to check if my room has any listening devices," Waverly ordered sternly.
Hayley looked at Waverly guiltily. After thinking for a moment, she said honestly, "There are surveillance cameras in the room, Madam. I installed them to ensure your safety."
Waverly looked at Hayley in surprise, "Did you record it?"
"Usually, the videos recorded on the day will be erased the next day," Hayley said frankly.
Waverly stared at Hayley, thoughts flashing through her mind. "Driver, turn back."
"Huh?"
"Go back to the Mccarthy mansion," Waverly ordered.
The driver turned back immediately.
"Madam, what's wrong?" Hayley asked in confusion.
"Please bring me the videos from today, especially those in my room," Waverly said, agitated.
"Why?" Hayley was even more puzzled.
"No reason. It would be best if you do as I say," Waverly was staring forward deeply.
As long as she had a video of him forcing himself on her, it would be impossible for him to become President.
Her plans, efforts, and goals that she had been striving for her entire life were coming to fruition. Then, she could finally leave this treacherous place.
Getting out of the car, Waverly ran toward the lakeside house.
Hayley followed by Waverly's side and said worriedly, "Madam, slow down. It's snowing. It's slippery."
Waverly couldn't be bothered and ran desperately. When she arrived at the lakeside house, she turned around and grabbed Hayley's shoulder. "Get the video immediately and give it to me."
Hayley entered the room, turned on the computer, looked at the video, and frowned.
Waverly noticed the uneasy look on her face. "What's wrong?"
"This is strange. The surveillance was cut off. There was a period of time with no footage," Hayley said.
Waverly rushed to the computer and said, "There wasn't any at that period of time. Shift the surveillance to my room."
Hayley shifted the surveillance screen to Waverly's room and saw Waverly going back to her room to sleep. After that, everything went black. It was after Joseph left that the signal was restored.
Needless to say, there was no surveillance footage of when Joseph was in the room.
Did he anticipate that there would be surveillance cameras in her house?
"Hayley, was there anyone else who might have surveillance in my room apart from you?" Waverly asked.
"I don't think so. When I installed the cameras, I installed anti-monitoring devices with them too."
"Could it be that a hacker had invaded your monitoring system?" Waverly asked.
"No, there is an anti-monitoring device," Hayley explained.
Waverly understood and sat in the chair. She was silent for a moment and quietly immersed herself in her own thoughts.
Hayley stood beside her quietly, unsure of what to say.
Ten minutes later.
"Remove the surveillance cameras from my room. I need my space," Waverly ordered. Then she stood up and turned around.
She was anticipating the best outcome earlier, but now, everything came to a dead end.
She had consumed all her energy, and now, she was feeling weak and tired.
She opened the door, and a gust of wind blew over. The snow fell on her body, and it was cold.
"Madam, are you okay?" Hayley asked with concern.
"Yes. I'm alright," Waverly replied, looking at the gloomy sky.
She was fine when there was hope. She felt depressed once hope was lost.
"Let's go," Waverly said in a low voice. She gathered her clothes and slowly walked out of the room.
Hayley thought that she had accidentally offended Waverly. Seeing that Waverly was in a bad mood, she said, "Madam, did I make you angry? I should have told you in advance, I'm sorry."
"It doesn't matter. You were doing this for my safety," Waverly said softly.
Hayley felt Waverly was very nice. She was the gentlest woman in the world.
"Madam, actually..." Hayley wanted to tell her that she was working for the President, but she starting choking with sobs.
Waverly looked back at her and smiled, "It's okay. It's fine if you don't want to talk about it. It doesn't matter."
Hayley lowered her head and felt very guilty. However, she was afraid that Waverly would drive her away after she said it.
Waverly walked to the door and went out. Two people wearing glasses stood in front of her, expressionless.
"Who are you? What are you doing?" Hayley shouted and stood in front of Waverly.
"Miss Martell, Mr. Mccarthy has asked us to pick you up. He said that he has informed you over the phone," the bespectacled man said seriously.
Waverly figured that he was working for Joseph. She asked, "What if I don't go?"
The bespectacled man raised his pistol and pointed it at Hayley. He said coldly, "Mr. Mccarthy said to kill her and bring you after."
Joseph knew her weakness. Even if she struggled, it would all be in vain.
"I know. I want to talk to her," Waverly said. She turned around and faced Hayley. She took 500 dollars out of the bag and stuffed it into Hayley's hands.
"Madam, what are you doing?" Hayley asked in confusion.
"Get dinner for yourself and go back. Take care of the house for me. Don't let anyone see you to avoid them from asking questions. I'll be back tomorrow," Waverly said.
"Tomorrow?" Hayley looked at the bespectacled man. "Madam, are you not going to be back until tomorrow? Who are these people? Are they going to hurt you? If they are, I will ensure your safety, even if it means losing my life."
"If they are here to hurt me, they wouldn't even let me talk to you now. I'm fine. Go back, and I'll talk to you when I come back," Waverly said.
Hayley nodded.
Waverly then got in the car.
It was strange that the car was not driving in the direction of the previous villa but a different direction...
