Chapter 977 No Regrets
"Hello, Waverly, this is the Ministry of External Affairs. I'm sorry, but you still haven't come in for work today and you've applied for quite a handful of leaves. The president of A Country will be visiting our country soon, so our secretary wants you to be here to help out for the welcoming ceremony," the caller informed.
Waverly frowned.
She was the woman who had cheated on the president of A Country. Wouldn't it be inappropriate for her to participate in the welcoming ceremony?
Was it Joseph or the king who had come up with this? What were their intentions?
"I have something to do in the morning, so can I come over in the afternoon?" Waverly asked.
"Sure, then I'll see you in the afternoon," the caller said before hanging up.
As she was still pondering about the motives behind the call, her phone rang once again.
When she saw that it was Bellamy who was requesting for a video call, she answered immediately.
"Waverly!" Bellamy called out with a smile.
"Yes?" Waverly responded with a smile.
"Did the Ministry of External Affairs call you?" Bellamy asked.
Upon hearing him, Waverly finally knew who was the person responsible behind the call, "You requested it?"
"Yes, I only want you to welcome me. If everyone sees me treating you nicely, then they won't dare to insult you. In the future, when you need to welcome other political figures, I'm sure no one will be mean to you," Bellamy said.
Waverly was touched by his thoughtfulness.
Although Bellamy loved Stella, he had always treated Waverly very well. Thanks to this, she had no regrets loving him.
"That's a brilliant move," Waverly praised him with a smile.
As he looked at her, the corners of his mouth rose slightly, "That way, we can meet in public. Although I've been to M Country many times, I haven't gone to many places with you. You have to arrange for me to visit nice places this time."
"Honestly, all beautiful sceneries look the same. Those photos on TV are more beautiful. In reality, they lack that air around them. I don't really feel like arranging an itinerary for you," Waverly said bluntly.
"I suddenly remembered that when the president of a certain country went to visit Japan, they arranged for him to watch a sumo match. Two hours later, the president fell half asleep."
Waverly was amused by Bellamy's tale and laughed, "Why don't you come and watch me cook pork cutlets? It will take four to five hours, haha."
"That's a great idea! Let's make that happen then. I'll request this personally from your king and then we'll do that. After that, make that thing that we had together the last time, the one that you said was delicious, the one with cabbage and meat."
"Oh, oh, I know what you're talking about! It's the one where the pork cutlet is made into a roll and wrapped with cabbage right?"
"Yes. Can you make that?"
"I can try. What else do you want to eat?" Waverly asked him with a smile.
"There's one more thing. Remember when we were at H City, and during their reception, there were some pastries?"
"That dish where there were eight different pastries in a bowl, each with different tastes?" Waverly tried to recall the menu back then.
"That's right."
"No problem! I'll make that. By the way, how long will you be here?" Waverly asked tentatively.
"Around two or three days, but I can extend my stay," Bellamy said in a low voice as he looked at her with a burning gaze.
That was the complete opposite of what Waverly wanted.
The longer he stayed, the more danger he would be in.
However, she couldn't actually say she wanted him to leave as soon as possible. After all, deep down, she really wanted him to stay for a long, long time.
Tears started to well up in her eyes. Not wanting him to notice it, she dropped her gaze and concealed her emotions with a smile. Lowering her head, she said, "Then you should start getting ready. I'm heading out in a bit to get some clothes."
"Okay, call me anytime. See you," Bellamy bid her goodbye.
Waverly looked back up to take one good look at him to store his face in her memories. However, the more she looked at him, the more her heart ached. Of course, she didn't want him to sense this, so she forced out a smile.
Bellamy constantly protected Stella and Stella reciprocated with her concern, so she did not reckon that Bellamy was losing out in their relationship.
Although Bellamy failed to reciprocate her feelings despite her protecting him, she still felt that her efforts were worth it. She replied, "See you later, Bellamy."
"See you." Bellamy continued to lock his eyes on her face, refusing to hang up.
Waverly quickly hung up as she felt a tear roll down her face.
She quickly wiped off her tears. She had told herself many times that she wouldn't cry, as it was not good for her eyes and one day she might even cry herself blind.
However, when the emotions hit her, she just was unable to have them within her grasp. She had no control over tears!
Gripping her phone, she closed her eyes and took a long, deep breath. She slowly calmed herself down. When she opened the door, she spotted Hayley playing with the puppy.
"Hayley, we're leaving," Waverly called out softly.
"Okay." Hayley brought the dog back to its room, patted its head and said, "You'd better keep watch at home. Be a good boy. I'll come back and feed you at noon."
The dog wagged its tail and kept staring at her.
As Hayley walked out of the room and closed the door behind her, the puppy looked at the door pitifully.
Upon casting a glance at the puppy, she was reminded of a video she had watched some time ago where they had illustrated how dogs behaved when their owners were not at home.
Due to her interest in animals, she continued to watch the video, feeling intrigued.
There wasn't any audio, but subtitles written in red instead, saying, "When you're not home, your dog spends hours staring at the door blankly, waiting for you to return."
After watching the video, she felt sad. She indeed liked dogs very much, but she would feel bad if she failed to take care of one well, so she had never kept a dog until recently.
Looking at the puppy now, she felt a mix of love and pity towards it. Speaking softly, she said to Hayley, "Why don't we bring the puppy along? Bring some extra napkins and plastic bags. Carry it in a bag with a hole. It's still a puppy, so I'm afraid it'll get sick easily from the cold air."
"Madam, you're so nice!" Hayley said happily. After a while, she found a red bag that was appropriate for this.
Inside, she stuffed an old scarf and a hat, then placed the puppy in it. Moreover, Hayley did not forget to bring some dog treats and its feeding bottle.
"Remember to watch out in case it pees," Waverly reminded.
"I've already made sure that it peed beforehand, so I'll check again in an hour," Hayley informed while carrying the bag.
With everything prepared, they hopped into the car and Waverly drove off.
After a while, they arrived at the shopping mall.
Waverly headed to choose her wig first.
She chose a few different styles that she thought looked good on her.
"Miss, you have good taste. These are all our best-sellers here. Besides, all of them look so natural on you to the point where I can't even tell that they're fake. You look so good," the salesgirl praised.
"How do I take care of these wigs?" Waverly asked. This was her first time using wigs, so she wasn't familiar with it.
"These wigs can be washed, but take note not to put them under the sun. If you do that, they'll lose their color. You can dry them under a fan or use a hair dryer. Remember to hang them on a mannequin so that they won't go out of shape," the salesgirl explained.
"Alright, thank you." Feeling convinced by her explanation, Waverly proceeded to buy a few.
Since she had to go to the Ministry of External Affairs, she couldn't wear anything too striking. Thus, she chose the wig with straight, black hair. Tying it into a bun, she let some strands linger around her face.
Waverly couldn't help but pray that Joseph would not cause any trouble as she still had to attend a blind date during nighttime.
