Chapter 971 How Am I Supposed To Relax?
"When I was young, I used to get asked this really immature question, which was whether I would rather marry someone I love, or someone who loves me. Although it sounded ridiculous, I had given it a lot of thought. If you marry the one you love, then you might be at a loss because the other party doesn't reciprocate your feelings. If you marry the one who loves you, then you'd be pampered like a princess. However, your heart would feel completely desolate and you'd also feel bad for him. If I married the one I love, at least I wouldn't have any regrets," Waverly relayed.
"Madam, I don't quite understand where you're getting at," Hayley scratched her head, feeling puzzled.
Waverly smiled slightly, "I just want to give it all in a relationship, but I don't seek for my feelings to be reciprocated. That way, I won't be at a loss and I won't feel upset."
However, her words failed to comfort Hayley. In the future, when the President was to marry someone else, Waverly would be all alone. Even worse, she would still have to endure the bullying coming from Joseph, Giselle and the rest of the Mccarthy family.
"I'll always be by your side," Hayley said sincerely.
Waverly smiled upon hearing her words.
Of course, she did not intend to keep Hayley by her side forever. When she got older, she would get a boyfriend and have her own family with kids. Why would she still need to be by Waverly's side?
"I'm hungry. Why don't you cook something for me?" Waverly changed the subject.
When Hayley went to prepare dinner, Waverly did not follow her into the house. Instead, she sat by the lake with the puppy in her arms as she admired the scenery. The scent of the flowers wafted into her nose.
Drowning in her own thoughts, she couldn't help wondering how the blind date that Uncle Thomson was arranging for her would turn out to be like.
Joseph wanted to be an emperor, but his window of opportunity had not appeared. Besides the problems incited by the Mccarthy family, M Country was peaceful.
If she had not been the one who had gotten framed, she would not have known what Joseph was like. What's more, she trusted her family like Thomson did.
In terms of status, Thomson was rightfully superior to Joseph. If they were talking about strategizing schemes, although her uncle had always gone by the books, he was not an ignorant person either. If she could help him solidify his position, then it would not be an easy feat for Joseph to overthrow him.
From the looks of it, it was Joseph who was at a disadvantage, so there was no need for her to be so anxious and hasty.
"Madam, your phone's ringing." Hayley handed the phone over to her in excitement.
Seeing that the caller ID was Bellamy, she took a deep breath, gathered her emotions and put on a smile before accepting the video call.
After picking up, Bellamy remained silent as he swept his eyes across her face.
Seeing him do so, Waverly's smile became even wider, revealing her porcelain white teeth as she asked, "What's wrong?"
"Judging by how you look right now, don't try to tell me that you're fine," Bellamy frowned as he stared at her face.
"If I say I'm upset, will that make you happy? I'm fine, really. By the way, I haven't shown you the scenery around here. Let me show you around," said Waverly. Holding the phone in her hand, she rotated it around the place.
"See? There's a lake here and there's a boat on it too. When the weather is warmer, I can sit on the boat. Looks like I'm going to live a comfortable life here. By the way, look at this puppy I'm holding. How tiny and obedient it is!" Waverly deliberately directed the camera at the dog.
The puppy saw itself on the screen and stared at its reflection curiously.
"Look, there are a lot of flowers here too. Joseph got someone to plant them. He's been treating me pretty nicely so far. For now, I'm living quite well with the Mccarthy family, so that's a relief," As Waverly spoke, she made sure a smile was always plastered on her face.
"I'm planning to come over to M Country earlier, so let's meet up." Bellamy said in a low voice.
"Hmm?" Waverly paused and pondered. "I'm worried that if we meet in private and the media catches us, they'll make a huge fuss out of it."
"What are they going to say? What are the headlines going to be? 'The President meets his ex-wife as he still loves her' or whatnot? Tell me, what exactly can they write about us?" Bellamy was starting to sound a little angry.
Sensing the anger in his voice, Waverly hesitated to reply.
"As your ex-husband, it shouldn't be a problem for me to meet you, right? Stella said..." Bellamy paused mid-sentence.
When Waverly heard the name 'Stella', her heart skipped a beat, "What did she say?"
"Let's talk about it when we meet. I'll be in M Country by tonight. I'll call you once I've landed," said Bellamy. Not leaving her any room to protest, he hung up immediately.
Waverly felt her entire mood sink. The more she thought about it, the sadder she felt, so she stopped herself from doing so. Turning to look at the lake, she was already sniffling.
"Hayley, let's go get some pork chops," Waverly urged. Grabbing the car keys, she opened the door and sat in the driver's seat.
"Oh, okay." Despite feeling puzzled, Hayley got into the car without asking any questions.
With her gaze locked in front of her, there were a million thoughts rushing through her mind at that moment.
All of a sudden, the thought came to her mind. If Bellamy was coming to her place privately, then he would not bring many guards with him. If someone wanted to assassinate him at that moment, it would be an easy job.
She recalled Joseph's threat from earlier where he had threatened to kill Bellamy on this day.
Did that mean Joseph knew Bellamy was going to be in M Country today?
Oh, no!
There was no way she would let Bellamy take that risk.
She pulled over by the roadside and made a phone call to Bellamy.
Even after three rings, Bellamy did not pick up.
Waverly was starting to get anxious. She called his number another time, but he still failed to answer the call.
The thought of calling Stella suddenly came to her.
She dialed Stella's number. Thankfully, she picked the call up and answered, "Hello, Waverly."
"Stella, listen to me. Bellamy is coming to M Country today. It's dangerous for him to come over alone. I suspect that Joseph already knows about him coming. I need you to call Bellamy right now and tell him not to come. I'm heading over to the Ministry of External Affairs now. When I'm done, he can enter the country in broad daylight with proper security enforced around him. I'll meet him then," Waverly said anxiously.
"Okay, hold on. I'll call him now and keep you updated," Stella replied and hung up.
Waverly lowered her head and leaned on the steering wheel. She accidentally pressed the horn and the car let out a sharp honk.
"Madam, are you okay?" Hayley looked at her with concern.
Waverly raised her head and leaned back in her seat, "I'm fine."
Bellamy could choose to ignore her calls, but he would not ignore Stella's. She knew how Bellamy's heart was from the inside out. Again, upon thinking of that, tears started to well in her eyes. However, she couldn't cry, fearing someone would see her doing so. Closing her eyes, she waited for the tears to dry.
Over at Stella's side...
After just one ring, Bellamy answered Stella's call.
"Waverly just called me and told me that you're going to M Country. She said that Joseph is probably aware of your plans. You were planning to head over there alone, weren't you? Do you have a death wish? Not only will you die, but your actions will have repercussions. Has it ever crossed your mind that you're the president of a country? If they really were planning to murder you, not only would that interfere with the diplomatic ties between our two countries and cause a war, but it'll create so much havoc that you might not even be able toc resolve in this lifetime. You're normally a level-headed person, so how can you do something so irrational?" scolded Stella, anger lacing her tone.
"She got beaten up so badly that she went blind and her body got scarred, yet she still told me that she was fine while putting on a fake smile. How am I supposed to relax when she's like this?" Bellamy replied with exasperation.
