Chapter 860 The Wedding Night

Sean entered the room and saw Eli sitting on the sofa, daydreaming.
Eli stood up and returned the phone to him. "Thank you."
Those words were so distant, it made Sean feel uneasy. "You don't have to thank me, we are husband and wife now."
Eli raised a smile, but there wasn't a hint of happiness in her eyes. She changed the subject quickly, "When can we eat? I'm hungry."
"I've prepared some nourishing soup and congee for you tonight. We'll slowly nurse you back to health. Everything will be fine," Sean said sincerely.
Eli nodded and lay back down on the sofa. She closed her eyes to take a rest. She did not want to talk to Sean. She was still feeling unwell and stuffy.
Sean made a call and ordered them to send the dinner to the room.
Dinner was ready half an hour later.
"Eli, it's time for dinner," Sean called out as he squatted in front of Eli.
Eli opened her eyes and looked toward the table. There were two sets of dinner on the table, one for Sean and the other for her.
She got up and walked to the table groggily. It was probably because she had been sleeping too much.
Sean had prepared congee and a bowl of chicken soup for her.
She took a sip and said, "It has a rich tomato taste."
"It is made of tomato and beef. There are seaweed and eggs in it as well. You could pour the rice into the soup and eat," Sean said. He then poured the rice into the soup, mixed it, and put it in front of Eli.
Putting a spoonful into her mouth, Eli stared at Sean suspiciously and asked, "Sean, you have been acting very strange lately. You are treating me well. Did... someone cast a spell on you?"
"I was so mean to you in the past. I'm sorry, I won't treat you like this ever again. No matter what happens, I will believe you," Sean said earnestly, with his eyes turning red.
Eli's heart ached when she saw it, and her eyes stung.
She felt even worse when Sean told her that he would believe her no matter what happens in the future.
She wanted to cry, but she couldn't in front of Sean. Hence, she turned her face away and said, "I'll go and wash my hands."
She went into the bathroom and closed the door while Sean stood at the door. He didn't go in, but he heard her crying.
This was the first time Eli had cried so loudly over the past five years.
Torture had diminished her morale and torment had pushed her off the edge of the cliff. She endured hardships and she had to suppress her emotions all the time. Even when she wasn't thinking of anything late at night, tears would eventually flow from her eyes.
She had gone through so many fears and worries. She had to stay strong because anything could've crushed her. She tried to be ignorant. Even so, she still led a tormentful life every day.
Sean said that he will believe her. Even though it seemed insincere, even if it was just one of his many schemes, it was enough to break the years of grievances that she had kept hidden in her heart.
She had been suppressing herself for way too long. It was so long that she had become a spirit in this world, where she could no longer feel the joy to be alive nor the sorrow of being dead. After an outburst of emotion, her heart felt much more comfortable. However...
She was in a dilemma. She had taken such a long time to wash her hands. Worst still, her eyes were swollen. It was obvious that she had been crying. If Sean asks her later, how should she answer him?
She could say that she was weeping with joy because they were married.
She took a deep breath, washed her face, and calmed down.
When she opened the door, she saw Sean standing outside. She went straight to the table as she did not dare to meet his gaze.
"Don't eat anymore, the food is already cold," Sean said.
Eli took a bite and said, "No, it's not cold. It's just right. It was too hot just now."
She took a big bite as Sean sat across her. He did not mention anything about her crying, and he tried to not look at her. He just ate quietly with his head lowered.
When they were almost done eating, Reuben came in, handing a box over to Sean. "Mr. Yaleman, here is what you have ordered me to buy. I've activated the international roaming system."
Eli looked at the box in astonishment.
Sean handed the box to her and said, "This is a wedding gift for you."
"Oh? Is it a phone?" Eli asked, happily opening the box. It was indeed a phone. She could call Stella later. "Could you give me Stella's phone number?"
"Pass me your phone," Sean said.
Eli handed her phone to him.
Sean took the phone over. He fished his out from his pocket and started saving the number on Eli's phone.
Eli noticed that he was saving more than one contact number on her phone. She got a little impatient and urged, "Are you done?"
Sean returned the phone to Eli.
Eli immediately swiped her phone contact. There were a total of three contacts inside. One was Sean, the other was Stella, and the last one was titled 'Little Precious'.
Little Precious? That must've been her child, yes?
Perplexed, Eli looked at Sean and asked, "Does our child have a phone too?"
"Yes, I bought it for him as it does not affect his study. Do you want to see him?" Sean asked.
Eli shook her head subconsciously. She was not ready to meet him yet. She hadn't seen her child for five years, so she had no idea what she would say to him. He was still a child when they separated. How much could he remember about her?
"I'm full," Eli stood up and went into the room with her phone.
As soon as she went back to her room, her mobile phone rang. It was from an unfamiliar caller ID.
She answered the call warily.
"Mrs. Yaleman, it's Reuben. This is my phone number. Feel free to contact me on this number should you require anything," Reuben said.
Smiling, Eli said, "Thank you, Reuben. I'll save your number. No, I'll memorize it."
Reuben paused and asked, "Are you alright?"
"Yes, I'm fine. Sean treats me really well today. He brought me to the Civil Administration Bureau, bought crabs for me, and allowed me to contact my friend. He even gave me a computer and a mobile phone. I was dazed with happiness because I have everything I want," Eli said frankly.
"I've already set up the Wifi connection on your mobile phone. Contact me if you still need help. No matter what happens, I'll be by your side, my good friend," Reuben said in a deep voice.
Hearing Reuben addressing her as his good friend warmed Eli's heart.
Reuben had helped her through the bad days. She really cherished their friendship. "Thank you, Reuben. I'm really moved. I understand, you may go back to work now."
"Okay," Reuben replied and hung up the phone.
Eli was afraid that Sean would check her mobile phone. He would definitely be angry if she saved Reuben's number. She might even bring trouble to Reuben.
Hence, she decided not to save Reuben's number. Instead, she memorized it and deleted the call history.
Then, she sent a text message to Stella, informing her that this was her new number. They could keep in touch that way.
With a mobile phone and having Stella around, her wandering soul seemed to be able to take a rest.
Lying on the bed, she browsed through the news and watched hilarious videos on her phone.
She did not even notice when the door was pushed open.
Sean walked in, took off his suit and put it on the hanger.
It was their wedding night. The beginning of a new life.
He slowly walked towards her...
