Chapter 893 Being Together

A smile lining her lips, Waverly rose to her feet. Helplessly but gently, she said, "I'm alright, really. I like the snow, the darkness, and the quiet. I like the way snow sits quietly on the lake in the dark. It's time for you to go back to bed, okay? Anyway, there's nothing to do tomorrow, I can sleep in. I like how this feels."
Bellamy walked over to her. After sweeping off the snow beside Waverly, he seated himself. He, too, looked out over the calm lake. "You're still young now. You have a lot of possibilities ahead of you."
"Yeah, a lot of people my age are still studying, but I've made it to the top and enjoyed the scenery of the rivers and mountains, which is far more than enough," With arched eyebrows, Waverly continued Bellamy's words.
"I always thought of you as a puzzle. You're been emotionally unstable at times, and at other times, you've managed to get your emotions in order," Bellamy looked at Waverly and said meaningfully.
"I cried, and I broke down because I wasn't emotionally ready. Once I have adjusted my emotions, I'll be happy and all well again. As you said, I am still young. I need to get stronger, and there are plenty of things I still need to learn. Maybe one day I can go further than where I am now. And when I look back, I might also laugh at myself for being childish." Waverly looked down and smiled.
Bellamy chuckled faintly. His words stopped pouring.
They sat in silence.
Suddenly, there were fireworks going off all around, a deafening din followed. It was very lively, the sky bursting in colors.
Waverly took a glance at the time on her watch and saw that it was already midnight.
"Bellamy, Happy New Year," Waverly wished.
"Mmm," Bellamy hummed.
Just then, something popped into Waverly's mind. "Why won't you lit any fireworks on New Year's Eve?"
His gaze trained on the gorgeous fireworks in the distance, Bellamy replied, "First, I think fireworks pollute the environment, and second, I'm not a fan of something so fleeting."
A wave of vague sadness billowed in Waverly.
Would the bond between her and Bellamy count as 'fleeting' as well?
No. After all, they never loved each other.
Waverly slowly rested her head on Bellamy's shoulder. "Bellamy, will you miss me after our divorce?"
"No," Bellamy replied bluntly.
Waverly smiled ruefully. "You really don't care one bit about my feelings, do you?"
"Pretty words can only bring a moment of solace, but what follows would be unreachable thoughts, hard feelings, regrets, and resentment..."
"I won't." Waverly cut him off, "Because I understand that the person you've loved all along is Stella. You've always treated me as a sister, haven't you?"
Bellamy didn't answer. He merely looked deep ahead.
"I suppose it's alright to be your sister. In fact, I've always wanted to have a brother like you. If only you were my brother, then we wouldn't have to be apart, and I could stay with you for the rest of my life," Waverly said faintly, her eyelids drooping. All that filled her nose was his scent.
It smelled good. He would usually use cologne, and it was mixed with the androgynous smell of tobacco.
Bellamy looked askance at her. "Do you hate me?"
"Now, this is already an old subject. No, I don't hate you. If I hadn't met you, I would have been worse off. Bellamy, I'm sleepy. Will you take me back?" Waverly said, her breathing shallow.
Bellamy wrapped his arm around her waist and supported his other hand under her knee to pick her up.
Waverly leaned against him, feeling his heartbeat with everything she could muster.
One, two, three...
She fell asleep to the sound of his heartbeat.
In contrast to the silence here, Eli was having lots of fun. "Go, go, go! Sean, hurry up! I'm being targeted! The enemy has a sniper rifle. Come and save me!"
Helplessly, Sean carried a sniper rifle and ran over to save her.
If people found out that Sean, whom reigned supreme, actually accompanied his wife to play games all night, they would probably be reeling in disbelief.
Not only was Sean an excellent shooter in life, but he was also a first-class gamer. No sooner had Sean seen the enemy sniper than the latter was shot in the head.
"Wow! Sean, you're awesome! I want to learn how to snipe too. I'm not good at sniper shooting. I always get killed before I have a chance to aim. I got stabbed last time," Eli gibbered as she followed Sean's lead.
"You should play the single-player version first. You have to practice switching, aiming, shooting, and choosing a stealthy place to crouch." He had taken out the last of the enemy while he was teaching her.
As Eli watched his fingers moving rapidly, she said enviously, "If you have nothing left, you should consider being a professional gamer. You should be able to make a good deal of money."
Sean let go of the mouse and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "You don't have to make a big deal out of it. To you, am I only capable of playing with the mouse?"
Eli rolled her eyes. Sean was indeed no ordinary rogue. "I don't want to talk to you anymore. It's past twelve. I'm going to take a shower and off to bed."
As she stood up, Sean took hold of her arm. "Don't you have a New Year's present for me?"
Eli swatted his hand away. "No. You haven't given it to me yet, so why would I give it to you."
Sean smirked, "I'll give it to you later. You can have as much as you want then."
"What?" Eli couldn't react in time.
"My ancestral heirloom."
Only then did Eli catch his meaning. She rolled her eyes. "I don't want it. How about you keep it to honor your ancestors?"
After entering the bathroom, she even locked the door to prevent Sean from making any moves.
By the time she opened the door and came out after a half-hour shower, Sean had already showered in the other room and was waiting for her outside. He picked her up and smiled dotingly. "You're slow, little one."
Although Eli pursed her lips, the corners of her mouth were up.
Sometimes, she found it hard to... handle Sean.
It delighted her when he called her by "little one". Hence, Eli's New Year's gift for him was herself, and so she blossomed in Sean's hard work of sowing his seeds.
After everything had happened, he slid a diamond ring on her finger.
With two shiny rings glittering in her eyes, Eli asked Sean in confusion, "Haven't you given me a diamond ring already? Why did you give me another one?"
With a glint in his eye, Sean smiled faintly and replied, "It is said that the fingers are connected to the heart. I want all of your heart to belong to me."
Eli rolled her eyes. "Don't be too greedy. If all my hearts were yours, would I have any of my own? Just two rings would be enough. If I put on another ring, people will imagine that I'm some rich woman. There will be young boys hitting on me."
Eli had just finished speaking when Sean gave her a knock on the head.
He couldn't even relax for once. Eli had a very spontaneous personality. Although she had a slight baby fat when she was younger, she looked very attractive and flirtatious now that she had lost the weight. She was much more seductive to men now.
His worries would only fester.
She was a forgetful person. What if he hadn't made a move on her in three years, and she went on to fall for someone else?
There were too many temptations out there. He had to make a move on her and secure a place at her side.
