Chapter 848 Was It Worth Keeping The Secret?
Eli thought hard.
She was a person who valued dignity very much in the past. Whenever she quarreled with her boyfriend, no matter who was at fault, she would never be the first to apologize first.
Now that she thought about it, it seemed that she had been too immature in the past.
Apologizing did not mean that she had embarrassed herself, rather, it meant that she had grown up.
Eli raised her head and looked at Sean. "It was my fault for betraying your trust, for not being loyal to you, for forgetting you so easily, for loving someone else so easily. Everything was my fault."
"Will you do it again next time?" Sean frowned and asked.
"No, I won't."
Sean looked at her fixedly, his eyes flashing. Distress was etched on his face. "I forgive you."
The corner of Eli's lips twitched. Her eyes were lowered so her expression was hidden. She bowed and said, "Thank you."
"However, this is your last chance. Also, don't expect me to marry you. You don't have the right anymore," Sean said coldly.
Eli stood up. "When can I leave?"
"Leave?" Sean knitted his brows and looked at Eli.
"Didn't you say that you will let me go as long as I beg for mercy? I begged for mercy just now. You said that you forgive me," Eli was puzzled.
Sean pursed his lips and stared at her. "Were you being sincere? When you are sincere about repenting over your mistakes, then I'll let you go."
Sean turned around and went out.
Eli narrowed her eyes. Sean had gone back on his words. He was always like this. Was he just toying with her earlier?
Repent over her mistakes?
What was there for her to repent!
Reuben got out from under the bed and looked at Eli deeply.
Eli thought of him witnessing the scene earlier when she kneeled to the ground. She was very embarrassed and she said with a smile, "A true soldier knows when to yield to win the battle."
"Mm," Reuben continued staring at her. He wanted to say something, but he stopped on second thought.
He could see that Sean liked her. He had asked her to repent but what he meant was for her to take the initiative to go back to his side.
"Rest well. I will stay here," Reuben said deeply.
"Hey, we'll just be good friends, okay? I don't want to be in love anymore," Eli smiled wryly. She didn't want him to misunderstand and get hurt.
"I understand."
"If you have the chance, can you help me request for a TV," Eli said with a chuckle.
"I'll give you a phone tomorrow. There's internet here. Remember to hide it well," he reminded.
Eli nodded. "Thank you."
"I'm going out," After he left, there was nothing but silence.
Eli stared into space. It was too quiet. She could feel the tremor and discomfort in her heart. Before she realized it, tears had flowed out from the corners of her eyes. She had bottled up so much in her over time. She felt like she was about to explode from the pressure.
She could not bear it so she sat up.
The door opened, but before she could wipe her tears away, she saw Reuben coming back in.
Eli was surprised. "Why are you here again?"
Looking at her tears, he frowned and handed her a phone. "This is my old phone, I don't use it anymore. I've already connected it to the Internet. There's a SIM card inside as well. I've already topped up some money. You should be able to contact anyone you want."
Eli wiped her tears away and said, "I'll take the phone, but I can't take the card. I'll reset the phone later. If Sean finds out, I'll say that I stole it. I'll get you into trouble if it has your card. Anyway, I don't have anyone to contact."
Eli's voice choked with sobs as she said the last sentence.
Then, with a bright smile, she quickly changed the subject and said, "With a phone, I can watch videos. Suddenly, I see a glimpse of hope. Maybe my life can be sunny and bright from now on."
"If you're sad, then cry. You'll feel better after that. You won't feel as suppressed anymore," Reuben said softly.
"Oh, crying too much is bad for my eyes. I was only crying cause I couldn't watch TV. Now..." Eli shook her mobile phone. "I can watch. Take out your card. Hurry up."
Eli handed the phone over.
He looked at her with concern.
Eli saw sympathy in his eyes.
She didn't want anyone else to pity her. She didn't like it.
"If you continue to look at me like that, believe it or not, I don't want you as my friend anymore," Eli said seriously.
Reuben withdrew his gaze, took out the card, and handed the phone back to Eli.
Eli immediately reset the phone and lay on the bed. She waved at Reuben and said, "Go back and have a rest. There are still a lot of things for you to do tomorrow. I'll help you once I get better."
Reuben nodded and said, "I shall take my leave then. Mr. Yaleman had just gone out and he won't come back so soon. Remember to lower the volume."
"I'll use the phone under my blanket. He wouldn't be able to find out about it even if he suddenly comes in here. Don't worry," Eli said with a smile.
Reuben walked out of the door, and she curled up under her blanket. She lowered the volume until it was barely audible and put on a comedy show.
She felt sleepy after watching episodes after episodes, so she turned off her cell phone, hid it under the pillow, and went to sleep.
She woke up the next morning and opened her eyes. She was in a daze for a while. Her heart felt heavy and it was aching as if something was pressing on it. She did not know what it was exactly.
The door opened.
A maid came in and said, "Mr. Yaleman has summoned you."
"Oh," Eli got up and spent a long time putting on her clothes. Worried that her cell phone would be discovered, she turned off the cell phone and hid it under a quilt in the cabinet.
She went out, but there was no one.
She wasn't good with directions. She wanted to head to the main hall but she got lost. She came across Sean and his girlfriend taking a walk in the garden. She took a detour past them.
On the way, she met the maid who had talked to her earlier.
The maid was a little frustrated. "Where have you been? I couldn't find you anywhere. Mr. Yaleman has been waiting. I'll skin you alive if he vents his anger on us."
If it had been the old bad-tempered Eli, she would have gladly challenged the maid to a fight.
However, with her temperament now, she found it pointless to trouble herself with such petty things.
She followed the maid to the dining room and saw Sean sitting on the main seat.
She let go of her arrogance and bowed.
Sean looked at her.
She was much thinner than she had been in the past.
She was quite chubby when she was a child, with big eyes and a round face. She was very cute.
Right now, she seemed like she didn't even weigh 90 pounds. She looked so tiny.
"Have you thought it through? Do you repent?" Sean asked in a cold voice.
Eli raised her eyes to look at him.
When Sean was younger, he was a playboy. He married Yvonne but he still took Eli in for a few years. Even now, he was still surrounded by beautiful women. She wondered if she was being a fool or, perhaps, she just didn't know better. Was it really worth it to keep the secret?
