Chapter 1007 You Really Are...

Waverly frowned.
She was fun to toy with?
Those words did not seem to be a compliment.
He lowered his head and continued to type on his keyboard.
Once in his youth, he had gone to the countryside to play. There had been a competition to see who could drive the cow to the finishing line first.
Some of the cows would walk slowly, while others would walk even slower. Some of them had even stopped to eat some grass in the middle of the competition.
When he pulled his cow to one side, the cow would go in the opposite direction.
His cow was so stubborn that he couldn't drag it along no matter how hard he tried.
Then, he had an idea and he extended the rope on the cow's nose.
If he wanted to go South, he would deliberately pull the cow towards the North, causing the stubborn cow to head south. As soon as he let go of it, the cow would run fast.
He felt that Waverly was like the cow, and, to some extent, she was even more stubborn than it.
He would just let her watch him do his work.
Waverly stared at him for a long time, also feeling that it was embarrassing for her to just sit there.
Her temper gradually subsided and her stomach started to grumble.
She hadn't eaten much at noon and had not taken dinner, so she was a little hungry.
Joseph looked at her belly and said, "Let's go have dinner. Only when you are full can you have the energy to argue with me."
"Joseph Mccarthy, I'd like to ask about the two-choice question you mentioned last time. First off, would you ever let Bellamy go? Even if I choose to protect Bellamy, you will not let him get away with everything. You will not give up until you have reached your goal. Secondly, even if the person I choose to protect is Yazoo, you will still deal with him when you feel like it. No matter what choice I make, I will not affect your decision," Waverly said firmly, looking into his eyes.
"It's my personality to not be subjected to the will of others. I just want to know, in your heart, who is more important? Bellamy or Yazoo?" Joseph asked maliciously as he smirked.
Waverly looked at him head-on, "I have never thought of such a question, so I can't give you an answer. It's too ridiculous."
"Bernald used to like you a lot."
"He treated me like his own sister."
"There is no pure friendship in the world. His affection towards you was not like towards a little sister," Joseph said with certainty.
"If you are so smart, then tell me, what does Bellamy mean to me?" Waverly asked without even blinking at all.
"You have always been his comrade-in-arms, haven't you? Because of him, you 've been condemned by thousands of people. He should have wanted to compensate you and hope that you would live a good life. Don't you know that? Or do you think that he likes you?" questioned Joseph, the depths of his eyes gradually freezing over.
Waverly's eyes sank.
He knew everything and could see through everything as if his eyes were an X-ray.
"I'm sick of fighting with you. Can you just tell me what I have to do? Be honest,  and I will do it for you. When I finish my task, you will let me go," Waverly said bluntly.
He reached out his hand to stroke her thin face and said, "You should have been mine five years ago."
"I belong to myself."
"Then, I'm yours," Joseph grinned.
It was the truth mixed with some illusive lie.
Faced with Joseph's laughing expression, she felt that he was somehow faking it.
Perhaps it was because she was too tired, or too hungry, but for a moment, she had no idea what to say.
He stood up and turned off the computer as he beckoned, "Let's have dinner first. I'm hungry too. You have nothing to do tomorrow, so have a good rest."
"It's working hours," Waverly reminded him.
She didn't want to stay in his territory.
"Yes," He walked forward.
She lowered her eyes and followed him to the dining room.
He ordered the cook, "Serve the dishes. I'm hungry too. Prepare portions for two."
"Yes, Mr. Mccarthy," the chef went down to make the necessary preparations.
Joseph sat down at the table.
Waverly sat opposite him, balancing her chin on her hand. She drew circles on the table with her fingers.
He fixed his gaze on her, "In my impression, you aren't such a quiet person. There are always endless notions in your mind, always causing trouble one after another."
Waverly looked at him.
She had initially wanted to negotiate with him. If he wanted her to become a stepping stone for him so that Yasmine would fall in love with him, she was willing to cooperate.
Yasmine was doing everything for money, power, and status. It was impossible for her to sow discord between them, because those were the things that he was born with.
Even if Yasmine found out about their relationship, it wouldn't stop them from marrying each other.
She would not be able to go through all that.
She had to find another way, but, for the time being, her mind was blank and she felt as if she was wandering in the vast sea.
Most importantly, she had lost her map.
She had no idea how to escape nor did she know where to go.
She ignored Joseph and leaned onto the table, staring into the air, "In the past, a scientist conducted this experiment. He put an animal in the cage, but I forgot what the exact animal was. In front of the animal, there was a glass window. At first, the animal would keep hitting the window to try to get to the other side of it. However, after some time, it realized that its efforts to hit the glass window were useless. When it knew that it couldn't escape, it stopped trying. Even after someone took away the glass window, it decided not to go to the other side because it thought the glass window was still there.
As he listened, his eyes dimmed. He said, "Humans are smarter than animals. Once someone takes away the glass, a human will be able to sense that something is different immediately."
Waverly looked at Joseph, "How long have we been fighting? Since we were young? Do you remember us casting lots?"
"I don't remember that. After all, we were only one-year-olds, but I heard the story from my mother."
Waverly smiled, "We were in the same grade. Grandpa asked someone to put us on the ground together. A toy gun caught your eyes, but when you got it, I took it away from you. You cried after that."
A strange look appeared on his face, "You also cried when I stole your pacifier. You probably cried longer than I did, because I took away the gun while you were crying, yet I didn't give you your pacifier back."
Waverly squinted her eyes, "You've been cruel since you were a baby."
Joseph snorted, "You think you were much better than me? You bullied me from time to time when you grew taller. I still remember it so vividly that I don't need anyone to remind me about that."
Waverly had almost forgotten all of those memories. After all, it was all about bad ones.
However, she had indeed been taller than him when she was a child because girls tended to have earlier growth spurts. Before the age of five, she could even pin him onto the ground.
That period of her life had gone by just like that. Those matters happened more than twenty years ago.
"You're still holding a grudge against me?" Waverly pursed her lips and said in disgust.
