Chapter 965 What's So Wrong With Killing him?

His actions angered Waverly. With one tight slap, she smacked him across the face.
The loud sound of her palm coming into contact with his face reverberated in the car.
Although she couldn't see anything, she knew that she had hit him in the face.
The atmosphere suddenly turned dead silent. There was only the sound of heavy breathing in the air. It felt like there was something devilish being held back.
The longer Joseph remained silent, the more she felt her heart freeze. It was as if she could feel an eerie, cool breeze blowing against her back.
She would rather be beaten and scolded than face the unknown. All kinds of bad thoughts were running through her mind, colliding with one another.
Even when she arrived at the hospital, she didn't hear a word from him.
Someone sat her in a wheelchair. Besides the person standing beside her, she could hear footsteps around, but no one uttered a word to her.
After a thorough check-up, she was sent to the ward.
Then, someone came in and applied some ointment to her eyes.
"You've lost your vision temporarily. We'll treat you with acupuncture and electromagnetic therapy, but we need to shave off your hair. While receiving the treatment, you might feel some pain," a woman informed her.
Waverly did not speak.
All women treasured their looks, and she was no exception. It was hard for her to accept the fact that she was going to be bald.
However, the other choice was to be blind for the rest of her life.
She still had a lot of things that she hadn't done. She didn't want to become blind and hit rock bottom, so she had no choice but to go along with it.
Soon, someone put an apron around her body. She could hear the sound of the shaver being turned on and buzzing around her head. A few minutes later, she felt bits of her hair falling down against her face.
Not too long after, she could feel the chilly air sweeping across her scalp.
They proceeded to put a hat on her.
Throughout the whole process, Waverly didn't say a word. She behaved just like a puppet.
Even after they left, she remained seated, not moving an inch.
A person's life was really strange.
Everything could be going fine all along, and then in just a short while, everything could turn to sh*t.
For example, when she did that to Giselle. She initially planned to get her to seize control of Joseph. She never thought that she would be beaten up so badly until she'd lose her vision.
The reason behind her asking Thomson to introduce her to someone else was to evade Joseph.
Now that she was blind, who would want to date her?
She was supposed to work at the Department of External Affairs. How was she supposed to do that now?
It felt as if God was just making fun of her. Every step of the way, he'd put all sorts of challenges on her. Luck always seemed to be on Joseph's side.
She was just tired of everything. Leaning against the chair, she shut her eyes.
All she wanted to do was sleep, but she didn't even know where the bed was.
"I want to see Joseph," she suddenly muttered.
Suddenly, there was the sound of a girl sneering. "You're blind now. Can you even see him? Even if you're not blind, you're still an old and ugly hag. Do you really think he wants to see you?"
"Then, can you get Hayley here? Is that okay?" Waverly requested.
"Fine, I don't want to look after you anyway. Wait a minute."
She heard the sound of the door opening, followed by Hayley's sobbing. "Madam."
Waverly raised her head and smiled. "Don't cry. My vision will only be gone temporarily, and my hair will grow back. There's no need to cry. It'll just make those who love you even sadder and those who already hate you even happier. Is there anyone else in the room aside from you?"
"There's another woman and a man. I don't recognise either of them," Hayley notified.
"Okay, I'm calling him now. If he asks about you, I'll just say that you've also been abducted, so you can't report to him, okay?" Waverly ordered.
"Yes, yes."
She handed her phone to Hayley. "You can help me find his contact, but don't switch on the camera."
With tears in her eyes, Hayley took the phone from her. She dialed Bellamy's number and handed the phone back once he picked up.
Waverly took the phone back and held it beside her ear.
"Waverly, are you alright?" He asked with concern.
Hearing his concerned voice, she felt a similar emotion welled up in her heart. It was sour and bitter at the same time, but also very satisfying.
"A minor problem came up. I unintentionally provoked Giselle today, then got a beating in return. Somehow we managed to scare her half to death, and then Joseph got someone to abduct Hayley and me. But don't worry, we've settled it. I'm already at the hospital. The injuries aren't that severe. I'm sure I'll be out in no time. You don't have to crack your head open. I'm really fine," she answered gently.
"How is that supposed to make me feel better? There are so many people in the Mccarthy family who're out to get you. You might be able to avoid them for the first time being, but how are you supposed to avoid them all the time? It might be a minor injury today, but you might be half dead tomorrow. Hell, you might just die without knowing how you died. Come on, be a good girl, leave the country. I'll take you away. Any country is safer than Country M," Bellamy said, distressed.
If they could be together, she was willing to leave everything behind for him. Even if the days to come were going to be tough, she'd go through it for him.
However, they couldn't be together. He could provide her protection and a good life, one filled with luxury and far from danger, but what about himself?
Waverly's heart ached, and her breathing became shallow because of the pain. It felt like someone was slicing through her heart with a knife. She struggled to say, "No, I know what I'm doing. Don't you trust me?"
"It doesn't matter. I'll arrange for someone to pick you up in a few days," Bellamy replied in a deep voice.
"I won't leave. My heart is here. Even if you find someone to take me away, I'll come back. You know how stubborn I am. Anyway, I'm not as bad as you think. I'm doing well, truly. If I'm in any trouble, I'll call you, I swear," she promised.
Truthfully, she refused to leave Country M until she was sure that he was safe. Otherwise, even if her life was at stake, she would continue to stand guard.
On the other side of the phone, there was complete silence.
Waverly smiled. "Actually, I'm now heading somewhere nice. Oh yeah, Uncle Thomson did arrange for me to work in the Mccarthy family business. With his word, no one dared to oppose, but I declined his generous offer. Rather than be in the Mccarthy family's finance department, I think it would be better if I worked at the Department of External Affairs, right?"
"Mm," he mumbled in a deep voice.
From his voice, Waverly could tell that he was still worried.
"I've been quite free these days. Since the Mccarthy family is in the weaponry industry, I've been thinking that I should practice my shooting. Maybe I should start practicing martial arts. It might be a little late to start, but it might come in handy. If I had known earlier, I would've listened to you before and learned it. Who knows, I might have a career path in it, right?" She added with a giggle, trying to make her voice as bright as possible.
As she was talking, she didn't hear the door swing open. Joseph walked in, his cold eyes narrowing in on her. There was a dark gleam in his gaze.
"Wait till I'm here, then we'll talk about it," Bellamy spoke in a low voice. "I'll hang up first. There's still a meeting going on here."
"Oh, okay," she answered understandingly. She knew many people were out there for his head.
If he stayed too long on the phone, people would start to criticize him, so she hung up.
"What do you think will happen if I kill Bellamy today?" Joseph taunted. His voice was cold with a sinister hint within.
