Chapter 1006 Why Are You So Amusing to Toy With?

Waverly understood the meaning behind his words but she refused to accept that Joseph had asked her to choose between Bellamy and Yazoo.
She could no longer stay calm, "Do you think a person's life is that meaningless? These people all have parents, lovers, and friends. Yazoo used to have a good relationship with you when he was young."
The corner of his mouth curled up and Joseph looked deeply into her eyes, "Whether their lives are meaningless or not, it all depends on you."
Waverly was enraged that all her emotions welled up inside her heart, making her hot-blooded, blurring her rationality. She couldn't restrain nor compose herself anymore.
She just wanted to act like a lunatic and tear off his mask.
"Then, who am I to you? I am just an abandoned member of the Mccarthy family. What do you want to achieve by keeping me by your side? To fulfill your carnal desires? You get as many women as you want. By doing all this just to pressure me, you're out of your mind!" Waverly pushed Joseph with all her might.
He stood still.
She grew even angrier, and with all her strength, she hit his body .
He still refused to move one bit, but she had already hit him so hard that even her knuckles hurt.
The more she thought about herself, the more she felt like she was a wolf trapped in a cage. She no longer had anything else apart from brute force and all that was left of her was her stupidity.
Not wanting to hit him anymore, she clenched her fists and stared at him with hatred. She no longer intended to hide the rage and loathing in her eyes.
Joseph stared at her without saying a word, a hint of sadness flashing through his eyes. However, it disappeared quickly, and no one would have noticed it.
He patted his clothes indifferently and said arrogantly, "You smell bad. I'll leave this room to you so you can take a shower first. In addition, you better keep the bag that I gave you. Don't let me phrase that for the second time."
After he said that, he went out, his face still as blank as ever.
Joshua was worried as he moved forward.
Joseph's facial expression was not well, and he was even looking slightly dispirited.
It was the first time Joshua had seen him like this. He clenched his fists and swept his eyes over the room where Waverly was staying in even more angrily.
"Mr. Mccarthy, why didn't you tell Miss Martell that you dumped her in the midst of a pack of wolves to save her life? If you wanted to kill her, why did you still put her in a cage?" Joshua said, feeling aggrieved on Joseph's behalf.
A hint of coldness flashed across Joseph's eyes, "You are not allowed to talk about Waverly and my private affairs."
"I'm only doing this because I feel bad for you, Mr. Mccarthy," Joshua's eyes turned red as he lowered his head.
"Don't appear in front of me ever again today. Go and receive your punishment yourself," Joseph ordered coldly and walked forward.
Joshua stood where he was with his head held down.
"I don't understand. Why won't you explain the matter to her?" he pondered.
Truth be told, it was an obvious fact that Mr. Mccarthy was not close to any woman, but Waverly was an exception. She was special to him. Yasmine couldn't even be compared to her.
He had never been in a relationship before so he failed to understand their relationship. Did his brother know what it felt like?
Waverly came out of the bathroom.
Clean clothes had already been brought over by the maids.
Several pots of fresh flowers had also been placed in the room.
She took those clothes, put them on, and stood by the window.
It was pitch-dark outside, so she couldn't see anything.
Her mind gradually calmed down.
She no longer wanted to pretend in front of Joseph anymore as she was tired of doing so. Even if she were to put on an act, he would still see through her. In the end, that would just make her more of a clown than she already was.
"Where's Joseph?" Waverly asked.
"Mr. Mccarthy should be in his study right now," replied the maid.
"Take me there," Waverly said in a low voice.
The maid stayed still and hesitated.
"Why? Did he say that I can't leave this room?" Waverly said ironically.
"No, he didn't say that. Madam, please come with me," the maid said and led her there.
Waverly followed her and walked through several corridors. When she arrived at his study, the maid lowered her head, scared to cause any trouble.
Waverly knocked on the door.
"Come in," Joseph said in his deep voice.
Waverly pushed the door open and went in.
He felt her aura, and his body flinched for a moment. He vaguely frowned and looked at her with his dark eyes.
Waverly knew that with that weak brain of hers, she could not predict what he was thinking about
Even though they had grown up together and were of the same age, how could he become this impervious to anything?
She suggested, "Let's have a good talk." Previously, she had wanted to have a good talk with him but wasn't able to do so. He was the only one who could anger her like that, his cold words making her lose her temper instantly.
Perhaps, she could pretend to be gentle, generous, and invincible in front of others.
However, Joseph knew her all too well. He had seen her get irritated too many times.
He raised his eyebrows and looked at the chair in front of his desk. He lazily rested his feet on the table and said, "Go ahead."
Waverly walked over, pulled out the chair, sat down, and took a deep breath, "What do you want by keeping me by your side? Do you want me to help you win over Yasmine's heart?"
"What do you think my reasons are?" Joseph asked back as he gazed at her.
Waverly thought about her own value. After thinking about it, other than being used by him as a pawn, there was another more important thing she could be used for. So, she said, "You're going to use me to threaten Bellamy."
"Hehe," he laughed, his smile becoming even more mysterious and unpredictable than before. "I can use him to threaten you because you love him, but I can't use you to threaten him because he doesn't love you back. I thought you understood that."
Sorrow flashed in Waverly's eyes.
She knew extremely well that Bellamy didn't love her.
Bellamy would not give up his position as the President for her as he needed to protect Stella.
Waverly endured the pain in her heart and retorted, "So? What is the purpose of keeping me alive then?"
"Even if I told you, would you believe me? What's the point of that? You should analyze the situation by yourself. Is there anything else you want to talk about? If not, you can leave now. Someone will take you out for a meal. When you are done, you can rest in the room you were in just now," he replied coldly.
Waverly just sat there in a trance.
She had come to him to ask for answers, but he had clearly given her none. This feeling of ignorance, fear, cautiousness and cluelessness was nerve-wracking. She pursed her lips and looked at him.
Joseph suddenly smiled, his eyes seemingly lighting up, "Do you want to stay here all day?"
Waverly also felt embarrassed.
However, there was a lingering thought in her mind. If she left, she wouldn't have anything else to do. She wished to sit here and waste time with him, because at the very least, she would be working her brain.
She thought of the wolves in the cage again.
She was being extremely stupid, but one had to be stubborn, or else they would only have stupidity left as their last resort.
"If you are not hungry, just stay here," Joseph added as he bowed his head and continued to type on the computer.
Having heard Joseph's words, she really wanted to leave.
When she was about to stand up, she saw Joseph smirk.
He had deliberately said that to chase her away.
Perhaps, she could find some important information in his study.
Since he had allowed her to stay, she did not leave, but turned back to look at him.
The smile on his face became even more obvious. He looked at her and said in a deep yet doting voice, "Why are you so amusing to toy with?"
