Chapter 1137 The Ending
The bullet pierced through his chest, and blood dyed Joseph's silver coat red immediately.
"Joseph!" Waverly's eyes were bloodshot, and her roaring voice was choked.
He looked at her, and wanted to smile, but he didn't have the energy to do so.
He fell a few steps back, and leaned against the window. The sea breeze tousled his hair into a mess.
"Let go of me!" Waverly struggled, but they were too strong and she couldn't escape.
"Push him down, and make sure he dies," said the person who was holding Waverly captive.
"No!" Waverly yelled, but her efforts were futile. They walked up to Joseph and pushed him down the window ruthlessly.
She screamed, "Joseph Mccarthy!" The person who was grabbing Waverly released her all of a sudden, and she rushed to the window as fast as lightning. Then, she jumped into the sea without hesitation.
Joseph had been shot, and his blood diffused into the sea rapidly. Waverly dived into the red pool of blood and swam towards him.
He was already unconscious, and he could no longer save himself, so his body kept sinking.
Waverly grabbed onto his hand and carried his body as she swam to the surface of the sea with all her might.
He mustn't die.
Even if she died, Joseph mustn't die!
At that moment, that thought was ringing intensely in her mind.
She tried her best to bring Joseph to the surface of the water. As soon as they arrived at the surface, she screamed at Agnes and Joshua for help.
She could feel Joseph's body sinking again, and she tried to pull him back up as she said, "Wake up, Joseph! Don't fall asleep! If you die just like that, I will dig up your grave!"
As she spoke, she started to sob. "Why are you so dumb? We're not even related! Who decided that you could die for me? I'll tell you, I'm not going to let you die! You mustn't die! Do you hear that?!"
"I heard that. Stop crying, or I'll feel bad." All of a sudden, she heard the voice of a man, and it even contained a trace of joy.
Waverly was stunned, and turned around to look at him, only to see that he was no longer unconscious. Instead, he seemed energetic, and his face bore a proud expression!
"You're not dead?" Waverly was doubtful, but she didn't dare to argue with him, as she was worried that he was only pretending to be fine when he was actually injured.
"You're already crying so sadly, so I won't dare to be dead!" Joseph said with a smile, and wanted to wipe the tears off of her face.
Waverly pushed him away, retorting, "You b*stard!"
She turned around and swam up to the boat.
"If I hadn't done that, how would I have known that you cared about me?" Joseph said as he caught up to her.
Not turning back at all, Waverly sniped, "Who cares about you? You're overestimating yourself. I just didn't want to owe you a life!"
"Why were you crying?" Joseph asked.
Waverly answered, "I was crying because you weren't dead!"
Joseph caught up to her and grabbed her arm, then pulled her into his arms.
As they faced each other, he asked her earnestly, "Do you really want me to die?"
Waverly was in a bad mood, so she said, "Yes!"
With a faint smile, Joseph said, "Alright then."
After that, he released her and opened up his arms, then fell back into the sea. He let his body sink, as if he was trying to drown himself.
Waverly was about to pull him back up, but she remembered the prank that he had pulled on her previously, and withdrew her arm, saying, "Joseph Mccarthy, stop trying to trick me, I won't fall for it!"
There was no response from the water.
"Joseph Mccarthy!" Waverly shouted again.
It was still silent.
Waverly started to panic, and she dove back into the sea. She realized that Joseph had really given up on living, and he was sinking downwards slowly.
She didn't have time to think, and dove down to catch up to him.
After some effort, she finally caught up to him, but he refused to follow her back up.
Waverly was anxious. She pulled Joseph over, and covered his thin lips with her own at once.
Joseph was taken aback, but there was a hint of surprise in his gaze.
After giving him some air, Waverly pulled him up to the surface.
Joseph no longer resisted and followed her ashore obediently.
The minute they arrived at the surface, the first thing he said was, "You kissed me just now."
"You're crazy!" Waverly cursed at him and pushed him away.
However, very soon, he pulled her back, and before Waverly knew it, he placed his palm behind her head and kissed her on her lips.
Waverly wanted to resist, but he seized the opportunity and captured her mouth.
In that moment, she could feel the passionate entanglement between their tongues, and she finally gave in. She lifted her arms and wrapped them around Joseph's neck as she responded to his kiss.
Agnes and Joshua had rushed down from their rooms to save them, only to see such a scene from the deck.
They were both stunned, and they glanced at each other. They could sense in each other's gaze that they were both thinking the same thing. What in the world was happening?
......
Both Waverly and Joseph were brought up from the ocean, and they went to Waverly's room to take a bath and get changed.
Joseph walked out of the bathroom after bathing and saw Waverly typing on her keyboard, "What are you doing?"
Waverly answered, "Writing a divorce agreement."
Joseph was delighted, and teased her, "Are you that impatient?"
Waverly glared at him and closed her laptop, saying, "Then, I won't get a divorce, and you can be my lover. You'll come whenever I want you to, and leave whenever I say so."
Joseph consoled her at once, "What I meant was that you didn't have to do those things yourself, I could've done them for you."
Waverly looked at him deeply, and said, "Just in case you want a divorce after we get married, we should write both our marriage and divorce agreements now."
Joseph said, "I won't want a divorce."
Waverly raised an eyebrow, asking, "What? Don't you need Yasmine anymore?"
Nodding, Joseph replied, "I've lived for so many years, yet it's the first time for me to meet a woman willing to risk her life for me even though I didn't give her money. I must keep a woman like this by my side forever, so why would I want a divorce?"
Waverly was touched, but she pretended to be expressionless. She retorted, "It's my first time meeting a lunatic who can force someone to marry him by risking his life too."
Joseph wasn't mad at all. He even laughed and said, "Then, you'll have to keep this lunatic with you, and you must never let him go."
Waverly looked at him, and wanted to pretend that she was still mad. However, she couldn't help but smile in the end.
Seeing her smile, Joseph finally understood the meaning of happiness.
......
A week later, Waverly divorced Bellamy under Joseph's arrangements.
Joseph stated clearly to Yasmine that he wasn't going to marry her as well.
Another two weeks later, Joseph was done planning their wedding.
Their wedding was going to be on the ship, because that was the place where they had confessed their feelings for each other.
They didn't invite too many guests, and only their closest friends and relatives came.
"Thank you for helping her recover," Boris said earnestly as he raised his wine glass towards Joseph.
Joseph clinked his wine glass with Boris', but he couldn't help but show off, "You don't need to thank me. She's my wife. It's my responsibility to do so."
Boris didn't know if he was supposed to laugh or to cry. He nodded and agreed, "Yeah yeah, she's your wife alright."
As the both of them spoke, Waverly came down in a white wedding gown along with Agnes and Stella.
Joseph went forward to greet her immediately.
The newlywed couple stood at the end of the red carpet. As the wedding songs began to play, they walked towards the stage together.
Boris, who was their matchmaker, automatically became the emcee of their wedding. He held the microphone and asked, "To the bride, Waverly Martell, are you willing to be Joseph Mccarthy's wife? From today onwards, you'll have to stay with him and support him. You'll have to love him, and cherish him, no matter good or bad, no matter wealthy or poor, and no matter healthy or ill, until death do you part."
Waverly looked at Joseph and said with certainty, "I do."
Joseph said cheerfully, "I do too!"
Boris rebutted, "I haven't asked you yet!"
Joseph said, "I do, whether you ask me or not. Don't waste time."
Boris was rendered speechless.
He thought to himself, "You're the groom, so I'll let you win this time!"
The audience laughed, and Boris carried on with the process, "The bride and groom may now exchange their wedding rings."
Joseph took his ring from his best man, and put it on Waverly's finger as he reminded, "I designed this ring."
Waverly said, "You've said that before."
Ever since he started designing the rings, he nagged her about them every day.
Joseph laughed as he asked, "Do you know what the concept of the design is?"
Curious, Waverly said, "What is it?"
Joseph held her hand gently, and said, "You're the only person I love, and it will never change."
Waverly was stunned, feeling a surge of warmth in her heart.
She took her ring from the bridesmaid with a smile, and slipped the ring into Joseph's finger with the wish of spending her entire life with him.
"Alright, you may now kiss the bride," Boris announced.
Joseph stared at Waverly affectionately, and his lips curled into a smile. He tilted his head slightly, and pressed his lips onto her soft ones.
Waverly smiled at the touch of his lips.
She thought to herself, "My dear groom, thank you for giving me love, for giving me a lover, and for giving me a home."
The end.
