Chapter 105: A Billion-Dollar Investment

At the entire Turner family birthday banquet, everyone looked at Mary with cold mockery and disdain.

Earlier, Wade and Daniel had already given valuable gifts.

And then there was Jonathan's South City Oasis Development Project.

It earned the Turner family a full five hundred million!

Now it was Mary's turn to give a gift. With her family background, what decent gift could she give?

Margaret sat in her seat, extremely anxious. She had seen that the box in Mary's hand was the one William had given her.

Giving it to Roy was too embarrassing!

This was going to make everyone laugh at them!

Wade looked at Mary with a mocking expression, staring at the small box she was clutching tightly. With a smirk, he said, "Mary, today is Grandpa Roy's seventieth birthday. Are you going to give him that little brocade box? What valuable thing could be inside?"

Wade sneered inwardly. He had seen clearly from a distance that this item was given to her by William.

Given William's lack of money and influence, he couldn't come up with a decent gift.

With that thought, Wade's malicious grin grew even wider.

He was just waiting to see Mary and William make fools of themselves.

Daniel, standing to the side, chimed in with a mocking remark, "Mary, even if you have no money, you should at least bring something decent. This little trinket is just too embarrassing for your mom. Everyone here is a prominent figure in the Turner family with Roy's friends too. This gift is just too casual."

This was a blatant insult to humiliate Mary.

"Alright, you two, stop your nonsense?" Emily couldn't stand it anymore and glared at them fiercely.

Wade and Daniel chose to selectively ignore her.

However, the disdainful expressions on their faces did not diminish at all.

Even Jonathan, sitting inside, looked at the approaching Mary with a hint of helplessness.

He had played well with Mary when they were kids, but as they grew older, their relationship had become more distant.

After all, she wasn't part of the Turner family. There would be no future interactions.

This was human nature.

Under everyone's gaze, Mary handed the small box to Roy, who was sitting in the head seat with a cold expression. She said, "Grandpa Roy, this is from William and me."

Mary was willing to trust William who wouldn't casually give something on such an important occasion.

But Mary also didn't think it would be anything too valuable.

After all, William was currently in a runaway state and didn't have much money.

Roy just nodded coldly in response, not even bothering to accept the gift.

Mary felt awkward, with everyone at the table just staring at her, casting strange looks that made her extremely uncomfortable.

She put down the small box and turned to leave.

Roy didn't even accept the gift, clearly showing favoritism.

However, just as Mary was about to turn and leave, Wade grabbed the box and loudly announced to everyone, "I thought it was something rare and valuable, but it's just a ring. It looks like an antique."

His words were full of provocation.

Many people watched as Wade took the ring out of the brocade box and put it on his thumb, laughing along with him.

Daniel chimed in, "Does Mary have money to buy this ring? I bet it's a cheap knockoff. Didn't you hear Mary say it was from her and William?"

Wade pretended to have a sudden realization, holding the ring and shouting at William from a distance, "William, where did you pick up this ring? Too old. Did you find it in a trash heap to give to my grandpa?"

That was going too far.

Many people looked at William with schadenfreude.

It was clear that Wade and Daniel had no intention of letting William off the hook.

William ignored them, calmly sipping his soup and taking a few bites of food.

‘These idiots have no idea what they are looking at. Will they be stunned if they know the real value of that ring?’ William thought.

"Glutton! All you know is how to eat! It's like you've never had a meal before!" Seeing that William wasn't responding, Wade lost interest in provoking him. He casually stuffed the ring back into the box and tossed it aside like trash.

Roy just glanced at it coldly and said nothing.

To be honest, the thing that made him happiest today was Jonathan securing the South City Oasis Development Project.

This was a major event worth celebrating for the Turner family.

Undoubtedly, David stood up, raised his glass respectfully, and said, "Dad, our family has several good things to celebrate today. May you have good health!"

Roy couldn't stop smiling, holding his cane in one hand and raising his glass with the other. He laughed. "Alright, I'll chug this drink."

The banquet began. Everyone chatted and laughed, enjoying their meal.

Mary returned to William, sitting silently and staring off into space.

Today, she truly saw through the Turner family. It was terrible and she disliked their hypocritical behavior.

If possible, she never wanted to come back again.

William, sitting to the side, sent a message to George: [Hey George, help me look into Roy.]

Soon, William received a reply: [Mr. Jones, Roy used to be in politics and is now retired, managing the Turner family's businesses. More than half of their collaborations are related to the Jones family. The Turner family's eldest son, David, is currently in politics with some power. However, with one word from you, he could be out of office. The other son, Andy, has a company in which you hold a 70% stake. David's eldest son, Jonathan, recently secured the South City Oasis Development Project, which was also given by me.]

God! William hadn't realized that the Turner family's businesses and projects were all connected to him.

This was a bit awkward.

[Stay on call. I don't like the Turner family.] William silently replied, then put away his phone.

Over at the Golden Age Group office, George raised an eyebrow upon receiving the message and immediately instructed his secretary to take action.

With just one word from William, he was ready to bankrupt the Turner family.

These blind fools had definitely offended William.

"William, what are you busy with?" Mary noticed that William had been on his phone and asked curiously.

"Nothing. Charles just told me that Sarah's surgery can be scheduled for Wednesday," William replied.

"Really?" Mary was so excited that she kept holding William's hand.

Sarah was her everything. No mother wanted to see her child in pain.

"It's true," William said, affectionately patting Mary's hand.

"Did you hear? The South City Oasis Development Project is said to be developed by George from Lindwood City. Jonathan securing this project really boosts the Turner family's reputation!"

"Absolutely, I also heard that the boss behind this project is a top-tier big fish born with a lot of money!"

"Jonathan is going to be something in the future. Roy wants to groom him as the third-generation heir. We should cozy up to him."

A group of people chattered excitedly, almost wishing they were Jonathan themselves.

"What's the deal with that loser? I heard the Turner family doesn't treat him well." Suddenly, someone shifted the topic to William.

"You don't know? Roy's granddaughter, Mary, got pregnant with William before they were married. You know, in Yangville, that's a disgrace!"

"No wonder. Mary isn't a good woman either, being so shameless to get pregnant before marriage."

Suddenly, several pairs of eyes turned towards William, causing his brow to furrow and his expression to grow colder.

These people were really gossipy.

Especially the older women, whose words were filled with humiliation and mockery, making it extremely unpleasant to hear!

Mary lowered her head even further.

Three years ago, because of this incident, she became the Turner family's disgrace, pointed at by everyone in the family.

Today, these people were bringing up old grievances again, stabbing her in the heart.

William turned icy as he squeezed Mary's hand. Then he stood up and walked over to the table where the gossiping women were sitting. He pulled up a chair and sat down, smiling. "Ladies, do you know what kind of people have the most miserable deaths in this world?"

The group of older women felt a bit guilty seeing William come over.

But they weren't afraid, rolling their eyes and raising their eyebrows with disdain.

They had seen earlier that this William was just a loser.

"You, a loser, how dare you come over and talk to us?" one of the women said coldly.

William picked up a wine bottle and smashed it on the ground, shouting angrily, "I'm warning you. Don't be ungrateful! If it weren't for your age, do you believe I wouldn't slap each and every one of you today? Be careful of what you say. Watch your mouths, or don't blame me for being rude! Bitches!"

William was cold and flames danced in his eyes.

Everyone at the table was intimidated by William's aura, closing their mouths in guilt and not daring to say more.

However, behind his back, they were still cursing William and Mary viciously!

Returning to his seat, Mary gave William a sideways glance and said, "Why to bother arguing with them? They don't understand anything."

William lazily smiled and said, "No way. They have foul mouths and deserve a slap. You're my wife. If anyone dares to insult you, I'll tear their mouths apart."

Hearing William's words, Mary felt warm inside.

Emily, sitting nearby, also glanced at William.

William seemed to care a lot about Mary.

‘He is not too bad after all,’ Emily thought.

Looking towards the innermost seats, everyone was enthusiastically discussing the South City Oasis Development Project. Jonathan naturally became the pride in everyone's heart.

Roy had also had a few more drinks.

At this moment, a middle-aged man hurriedly rushed in from the outer courtyard, looking excited and anxious.

"Something big has happened!" The middle-aged man was Roy's secretary, responsible for all external affairs of the Turner family business. He was the one who notified them of any important matters.

Roy frowned, looking displeased, and said, "What could be so urgent that you come rushing in like this? Out of line!"

The middle-aged man, not even bothering to wipe his sweat, said, "A billion! The company just received a billion-dollar investment!"

The entire room fell silent!

No one could believe their ears.
